Valve just sent a press release our way confirming that the upcoming Sniper update for Team Fortress 2 will be a bit less, uh ... upcoming. The update will be available to download through Steam sometime later this week, as Valve could not provide us with a definite date of release for the new goods. So, what is there to look forward to?
Well, the Sniper is going to go all Ted Nugent with a new bow and arrow, apparently, as you can see in the image above all of this text. The weapon is called The Huntsman longbow, and it will allow our fan of the long range an opportunity to pin those bothersome bobbers and weavers against the wall. Hey, Scout, think you're going to zig-zag all over the place? Well, not when you've been bowed to the wall.
[Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]

is it like insanely accurate or auto aim or something? because trying to accurately aim that thing at a scout would be tricky to say the least. and sorry if that's a noob question cause i just got TF2 with the orange box during that $10 steam sale...

Dual analog ain't quite as intuitive as some of its alternatives but once you've become used to it it's as accurate as you allow it to be (through how well you play, that is). It's not half as bad as most of y'all make it out to be.

I never had a problem being perfectly accurate in the console version of TF2. You just play a console shooter different than a PC shooter. Unlike on a PC where shooting is unrealistically accurate on a console you have to compensate for lack of accuracy with either autoaim or skill and timing. All you needed to do was pass your sights over targets in TF2 and be quick/skilled enough to pull the trigger at just the right time. It's a very efficient way of killing for me. In fact I enjoy it on the console rather than the PC because of the more difficult aiming apparatus.

Yes really, I still enjoy PC games, I own quite a few like Crysis Wars/Warhead, Shadowrun, Farcry 2, TF2, Unreal III, Americas Army 3 Beta, Fallout 3, Warhammer Online, etc etc. I just find their console counterparts far more challenging. It's too easy to rack up 300 kills in a match of Unreal Tournament 3 on my PC though very fun; I'd rather play a console match of Far Cry 2.

Sure all those games look better and run better on my PC, I just would rather play a shooter on my console. RTS and MMO games however are far superior on the PC.

Sorry but that sound ridiculous IMO (and somehow, elitist - although im think you didnt meant it that way). Its like saying that airplanes should have the same controls they had before WW.

I'd like to know how you intend to play several of the Vista online titles on games for windows live without it? I plan on upgrading to Windows 7 RC as soon as there are video drivers that work. Vista isn't a bad OS, but for people with ancient computers it isn't a good idea.

i dont see why Ezio got downvoted, what he said makes sense. Just because you use a mouse doesnt make you leet, and using a gamepad doesnt make you suck. You suck if you suck, and you probably suck on both. I play FPS' on PC and consoles, and I prefer consoles, mostly because I'm double jointed in every finger so it's hard to quickly reach all the buttons on a keyboard, but i've never really felt it was harder to aim on consoles either, hell sometimes you gotta be better on consoles because auto aim fucks shit up

Windows 7 uses an updated version of Vista's WDDM (Windows Display Driver Model) so any graphics WDDM 1.0 driver made for Vista will work in Windows 7. Windows 7 uses WDDM 1.1, though, and NVIDIA and ATI have been doing a good job of releasing pre-release drivers--much better than at the same time in Vista's pre-release stages. I've had zero problems with NV's latest 185.85 release, and I hear ATI's drivers are solid as well.

Pick your sniping method: Headshots (rifle) or Bodyshots (bow)
I like it!

It's probably going to be similar to the Sandman that Scouts have; a slower, arcing shot that you will have to lead quite a bit... It'll be a tough decision if you're a sniper who can't shoot accurately, so hopefully it's a straight-flying slow shot instead of an arcing slow shot.
I wonder what the other two items will be... Jarate?

It's a visual effect. The point is the bow and arrow and how it's intended for mid-range combat rather than long-range.

Well that would be the case with most Spy's, but you have yet to meet a Spy with my level of skill. I hide in the shadows, I'm barely a whisper in the wind. Hell I probably be right behind you half the time just mocking you. Then when you least expect it my butterfly knife will be sticking out of your back. That's when I flick a cigarette on your dead body and get me a new one. Then poof, I'm gone again.

Are they going to update the 360 version when they're all done with the PC or is that a pipe dream?
Posted: May 13th 2009 11:52AM (Unverified) said
This makes me both happy and sad. TF2 is a great game that I LOVE to play...on my PS3. I don't have a 'gaming rig' PC and would really appreciate it if Valve could support their games on all platforms, instead of just PC and occasionally the 360, (which are practically identical anyway).
I think the bow and arrow sounds like a lot of fun and would like to give a shot, (no pun intended), but I don't know if it's in the cards for me since, you know, I paid the same amount for the game (maybe more) than people who use Steam did.

Not the Unreal sniper rifle, but it'll do in a pinch.
The main problem is that it'll take PITA achievements to unlock, placing it out of the hands of those who hate the current sniper rifle and are unwilling to play on farm servers.
I mean, I LIKE playing medic, and I still haven't been able to unlock any of their weapons due to crud like "Uber a scout while they kill three enemies."
