EA's lock on the world of video game football continues with NCAA Football 10, and they're still of the mindset "if it sells well, don't fix it." Plus they're piling on more features with each iteration, and that means soon you'll have a football game in there somewhere, buried under mountains of minigames, training modes, fantasy football managers, mascot uniforms, and cheerleader tryouts.
New to 10 only on the PS3 and Xbox 360 editions will be Season Showdown, where you compete for credits over a four-month long competition by playing games with your chosen team on or offline and answering trivia questions on EA's website. You can also lose points in the Sportmanship category where doing things like going for it on 4th down when you're on your own 10 yard line or kicking an onside kick actually subtract from your credit bank. What about winning one for the gipper?
Also new to the PS3/Xbox versions is TeamBuilder, where you can create your own team by importing your own logos, customizing everything like the uniforms, the stadiums and of course the rosters, where apparently LSU defensive back Tyson Andrus is a white guy. You'll be able to upload your created teams to the EA server, and you can also download any other created teams. We smell a Team Joystiq coming, complete with our old Pong-style logo.

The fact that they have to pile on extra minigames just proves how boring pro American football is.

Too bad? Don't you mean "good thing...?"
Allow me to clarify. I didn't mean pro as in the professional league, I meant pro as in all officially recognized leagues/teams. College and National.
People give music game players all kinds of shit about learning to play for real, etc.
At least in music games there's some style and imagination. Football videogames? That's seriously something anyone with a few friends can go out and do. True, not everyone can play in the big leagues, but then you already know my stance on that.

Ha what "style and imagination"? You are pressing the exact button they tell you to press, when they tell you to press it. Its not like you can improv aside from when playing the drums.
At least in football games you choose what buttons you are going to press. Plus, not everyone can run legit plays just in the back yard with a few friends. Plus it gives you the ability to play as your favorite team, which if you enjoy the sport is pretty fun.
Don't crap on football.

This is a ridiculously unfair and inaccurate comment. I know that Joystiq doesn't care about sports games, and that's fine, but if you're going to report the news about it, report it accurately. If you don't like sports videogames and don't want to spend any time reporting it accurately, then simply don't report it... there are plenty of other sites that will cover that for you.
Most Football and Madden fans have been sour on EA for a few years, but Madden 2010 has shown more work in these early builds than any other version to date... never has more attention been paid to the game than it is this year, and the back-and-forth with the community -- on Madden forums, twitter, blogs, etc -- has been awesome. NCAA is not looking as robust as Madden, but that remark is nonsense... Ian Cummings & crew are puting more work into this year's football games than any other in the history of the series... so far.

Firstly, his is a blog, not a news website. They can post anything they damn-well please. Secondly, don't get your man-panties in a twist.

Just as this is a blog, my post is a comment to a blog. But they may as well be accurate that EA, this year more than any, is actually contributing to the NCAA and Madden series. Not only that, but last year, NCAA debuted the online franchise feature, which is one of the best new features added to any sports videogame, next to the NHL series' online teamplay mode.
I know that non-sports-gaming fans will get upset that anybody defend a sports videogame (because there is nothing more detestable than a sports videogame), but this year more than any, EASports is seemingly putting serious effort into their football games and it's worth recognizing... rather than just saying the opposite. The developers feedback and interaction with the community has been greater than any other videogame developers that I've seen, and it'd be a shame that commentary would reflect the opposite of what's actually happening this year, rather than being accurate.

@BigFat
Actually, the main focus with '09 was actually getting all the features that were missing into the game. It was more of a polish, to make it updated for the times.
Madden '10 is actually the biggest overhaul they've done this generation. Instead of just flaunting new features and modes, they're actually working on the core of the game. Making the animations and behaviors of the players as realistic as they can be. Whether its the rate at which a receiver turns a corner in his route, or how many ways a defensive end can get past an offensive tackle, it's all been redone.
I haven't touched my copy of '09 in months, but I'll be getting this one on day one.

.tk? Didn't everybody and their dog back in high school have there very own .tk site?
I'm surprised people still try to pass these sites off as legit.
Anyways, I'm looking forward NCAA '10. Of course I'm not a huge fan of any FBS teams, so season showdown won't be much fun for me. With teambuilder I plan on making my favorite FCS team so I can play with them.

While Tyson is indeed not white, he's also not at LSU, he transferred to Nicholls State 2 years ago. In fact that whole roster is more than a year old. Beckwith signed with the Chiefs a few weeks ago.
A closer look at the image shows the pale skin tone has been selected, so maybe they are just showing how much customization is possible with your imported rosters. Because their is no way tyson weighed 257 pounds either, he was a small dude.
And apparently someone at EA is a 'zona fan who is still having horrible nightmares about the 06 game where these linebackers demolished them.

Why does every sports article has to get dumped on by people who hadn't played a sports game Since Jonh Madden had his orignal hair color? (That includes you to Joystiq writers) You guys have no ideal whats new to this game or any ideal what has changed in the past few years because you've never played them. EA has a blog that they update every week with news about there upcoming games... http://insideblog.easports.com/. EA has made many fixes and changes to their game because the community wanted it....Two examples

So please don't hate sports games because you were always picked last in kickball.
