Wow, all the companies that buy the Atari name die after a couple years no matter how successful they used to be.

Must be some apache curse for destroying the land with unsold E.T. cartridges.

@ Mazrael

In recent years, The Witcher, UT 03/04, Test Drive, Neverwinter Nights 1 + 2 and some Dragonball games were quite ok. Other than that you're right. They've released truckloads of crappy games...

I wonder if all those who slagged off Sony for the Ghostbusters episode will now retract their statements.

Nope, I thought not either.

'I can't remember a decent game where the Atari logo appeared.'

Fahrenheit was published by Atari. The first 2/3s of that game was enjoyable enough. They also published Driver 3, which was actually rather good.

I haven't played anything from them this generation, though.

Maybe if they actually put out that Portable Flashback that would have helped them.

Flashback is genuine abandonware, the licence was lost when Delphine software vanished, hence the recent iPhone version.
Not exactly a money spinner.

Atari is an old company in this industry, very old, with roots still stretching across continents. It's a company that has changed hands many times, but continues to live on by virtue of its own spirit.

They were in the home console market before there really even was one, and, despite the failures of the Lynx and Jaguar systems, I honestly don't think they have anything to worry about.

Doom and gloom articles have been written about Atari and similar software/hardware establishments since the 80's. Mark my words... they'll be here in 30 more years from now. There's just too many legendary games that carry the Atari logo... they are like a Sega, Nintendo, or Capcom...

So what happened to the Phil Harrison-led rebirth?!
I thought it was all going so well and that they were showing fine form again.

Oh well. Worst career move ever Phil.

Phil Harrison was also involved in Sony's downward spiral.

Either he's just unlucky, or he's an overrated executive slimeball.
