Double XP weekends are usually only reserved for Halo 3, Call of Duty 4 and Call of Duty: World at War, but now that's about to change. For every enemy you chainsaw or shred with your precious shotgun (or just kill, frankly) in Gears of War 2 this weekend, you'll receive double the experience points. It all starts on Friday, May 15, at 5 AM EST, when Epic will throw the switch and let the rushing river of XP flow. You'll have until Monday, May 18, at 9 AM EST to take advantage, and the double XP will count across all playlists and match types. So, break out the WD-40, grease that chainsaw up, and get ready to show the Locust what's what.

well luckily the last few patches have fixed the lag issues mostly. Though everyonce and a while me and my friends get into a game with someone with a damn lag switch or somethin.
I'm more aggrivated over the fact that the game ballence has gotten worse with each patch and Since the last update If i try to chain saw someone from behind or the side my character will flinch sometimes 10-15 times and i can't get out of it. Even tried it on a 1v1 game with a friend and i wasn't being shot or anything and i flinched 15 times without even touching the controller after trying to chain saw him.
And I constantly get one-shotted by shotguns from 20+ feet away now where as before update 3 you had to be around 5 feet to one shot someone.
idk just my experience ever since the last update. my whole group went back to playing gta we got so annoyed with it.

I kinda wish Killzone 2 would do this also. I actually think it would work even better since there are two dimensions of advancement, one based on skill use also.

The game isn't "broken" anymore I don't think, just brutally hard for normal players. There is no rank matching that I can find. You're fodder for the die-hard players.
And yeah, there still are a ton of "normal" inconsistencies in game mechanics.

Those that are still so scathing about this game are at best a little out of touch and at worst ignorant.
Since the last update, there are far fewer inconsistencies in online play. Unless you get a very laggy game, which doesn't happen anywhere near as much now, everything seems to work fine. Very few glitches, the shotguns work better etc.
The matchmaking is also much better than people think it is.
I'm not particularly good at this game, I think I'm only level 18 or 19, but I win 70-80% of my public games.

Not everyone's experience with the game is the same, based on skill, the specific games they were in, etc. Everyone's over trashing this game, and the game itself.

Unfortunately, because it had such a shaky start when it was released, a good number of people just dismiss the multiplayer now. Can't say I blame them too much.
Hell, I almost completely gave up on it I was so frustrated.

It certainly can be frustrating. The best way to describe the Gears 2 experience for me is that when it's good, it's really good, and when it's bad, it's really, really bad. I can, and usually do, experience both total exhilaration and total frustration in any given session of public play.
Recently though, it's been more of the former and less of the latter - which is why I think people need to give it a second chance. The double XP weekend is as good a time as any to do just that.
Having said that I can understand people being soured to the whole thing. A few nights of laggy, glitched games is enough to put anybody off for good.

It's far from perfect, but it is still good fun most of the time until you get shot through a wall, which does still happen.
The main issues are the twats running around with the boomshot or the people who run around with the chainsaw permanently up. I was in a match were every kill on the other team was chainsaw apart from one player who was shotty.

People who still complain about this game have clearly not played it since the week it was released. If you are in a party playing Gears, then you will get a match instantly, and as far as I can see, the level matching is quite good too... Only if you're in a party, though. On your own, you may as well just sacrifice yourself.

I wonder if they're ever going to make the whole "bullets come out of your gun at the speed of bullets" weekend happen.
The odd time I throw the game in, get a match, pull out my shotgun, shoot it....
.....wait....
...waaaait....
and wait.
and oh blam. There's the shot.
I apparently i'm part of the 50% of the world that the update did not fix the bullet lag for, so I guess there goes my 60 bucks eh? Epic can eat shit, most over rated developing company in gaming.

I am a level 60 and just barely over a million. it takes 7 million to reach rank 100. they need to make it double XP forever!
And yes they fixed the majority of the cheating in TU3 but it gets annoying when I shotgun someone that doesnt know im there 4 times, they don't die, and then they casually turn around and one shot me! That's gears though, full of glitches and still addicting.

I'll definitely be getting my rank up this weekend =]
I'm at 17 now, mainly because I mostly play private matches; and yes, you do get better, quicker matches when you're in a party. Each patch that's come out has improved the game even further, and now that I have all the map packs that have dropped (thus far), I'm eagerly awaiting the Dark Corners DLC.
