LucasArts details The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes
It's true, last week's peek at Krome Studios' upcoming take on Cartoon Network's Star Wars: The Clone Wars left our midichlorian count at an all-time low. Now publisher LucasArts has made things official, laying out what we can expect from The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes.
The game, which will force grip retail shelves on September 15, will feature "run-and-gun" gameplay and 30 different missions, each plucked from "key" events in the animated series' debut run. Republic Heroes will also support two-player online and offline co-op, as well as the ability to drop in and out of multiplayer matches "seamlessly."
Lastly, LucasArts adds that its Singapore branch is handling on the DS version of the game, something we already suspected. Now, with our force powers slightly charged, we're going to see if we can lift our expectations out of the Dagobah swamp.

Hopefully this will be better than the last POS Star Wars game released. Force Unleashed sucked!
Prodigy @ May 14th 2009 8:58AM
You take that back. Force Unleashed was the best Star Wars game to date. Actually KOTOR 1 and 2 were good too. But Force Unleashed wasn't "bad" by any means.
_____________
Actually we share different opinions and I merely but respectfully disagree with yours. :)
NaeemTHM @ May 14th 2009 10:20AM
Damn it Prodigy what's the matter with you?! Force Unleashed scored below a 9 so in the eyes of most gamers it's the WORST GAME EVER!
Rhamsey @ May 14th 2009 12:10PM
The force unleashed was a great game, unless you tried to 100% it as i did, and found that randomly locking onto a box (thats behind you) when there are five huge enemies around you (and infront), and other small but annoying on the hardest difficulty really made me hate the game.
Like having to restart the battle against some bosses because one, i force repulsed proxy through the floor somehow, or after i defeated the skull rancor the girl didnt appear, so i just stayed down in the whole by myself till i turned off my 360.
KOTOR I and II were far better though, yet just as glitchy (if not more).
jacob.buehler @ May 14th 2009 2:38PM
Force unleashed was downright terrible. The engine was glitchy and unintelligent, just a hack and slash with occasional random instant deaths from falling or dying instantly to something else totally random. Horribly bad game. The last good Starwars game even worth playing was Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast. That game had a really fun single player, a great engine (based on quake 3), and the multiplayer was addicting as hell before they patched it for the slow brainers. You used to be able to force push or pull someone to the floor (that wasn't cautious) and kill them instantly, but the good players were putting too much whoop ass on the nubs so lucas arts patched it so it was much harder to get someone on the ground, and even if you did the finisher move did like a 1/10th of the damage. Lucas Arts plain and simple is just a horrible game developer.

If ya'll are gonna cover crummy games based off kids tv shows atleast cover games like Damnation that are coming out this month or perhaps Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising.
Gavin @ May 14th 2009 9:05AM
Is this just a reskinned version of Force Unleashed, but...you know, for kids?
No thanks.
Geist @ May 14th 2009 9:07AM
Except that I have no idea what this invasion is, likely many others do not, and so wouldn't care that much. I'm not saying that the story couldn't be communicated through the game, but they want to boost their figures from people who see Clone Wars, see this, and say they want a game based on the Clone Wars.
ScottG13 @ May 14th 2009 9:08AM
Probably a passable romp. I enjoyed FU enough. hehe FU.
Either way, Gamefly Que time.
WREturns @ May 14th 2009 9:09AM
WM+ confirmed?
Mr Khan @ May 14th 2009 12:12PM
It would be a great missed opportunity, though this game doesn't seem to be so much about the lightsaber action
Bert @ May 14th 2009 9:13AM
Okay, I'll admit Force Unleashed had a good story line.... but the game play still sucked IMHO.
playwhutyalike @ May 14th 2009 9:26AM
How am I supposed to play a Stars Wars game that doesn't involve Legos?
Jcarpio @ May 14th 2009 9:27AM
Thank goodness this will be coming out. Lego Star Wars is getting old, but yet my 5 yr old loves to play it.
Storm Eagle @ May 14th 2009 9:33AM
They definately need to go back to the drawing board as far as Star Wars games are concerned. The Force Unleashed was just plain fun to play. All that power.....anyway. Something in the way of Jedi Outcast where I can force choke the shit out of someone I'm playing against on Xbox Live, or force grab them and just drop them into oblivion.....yeah, that's the stuff.
Jesus @ May 14th 2009 9:41AM
Star Wars games are so hit and miss. This one looks like another trip to yawn town.
playwhutyalike @ May 14th 2009 9:52AM
...then Jesus said unto Paul: "This one looks like another trip to yawn town." Amen.
Bokal @ May 14th 2009 9:53AM
You Should try jedi academy then.
It's after the episode 6. Luke skywalker being the master of the academy.
Jedi Knight is a great serie. Worth playing, even if it now looks dated.
Deezul @ May 14th 2009 9:56AM
It sounds a lot like LEGO Star Wars, without the LEGO bricks. Not to say I won't get it, but I suspect that's what it will feel like.
guttertalk @ May 14th 2009 10:02AM
You know, if we can get past the easy Star Wars bashing, this game is a pretty welcome game to the Wii. It has co-op--online and offline. It has easy-in-easy-out multiplayer. It's a shoot 'em up focused on action with a lot of missions. The Wii isn't exactly rich in those games.
Whether it succeeds at this is another matter, but the Force Unleashed was a very good game (although the duel part was weak).
As for the complaints about the clone wars setting, look, the Clone Wars show did well and had very good episodes. My 9-year-old son and his friends love the Clone Wars period. LOVE it. Karen Traviss's Republic Commando novels are set in this time period and are an excellent, successful series. Sure, we older gamers would like to see a different time frame, but the interest in the Clone Wars setting is high right now. To walk away from it and start generating interest in another time period through games and shows probably doesn't seem like a good business decision right now.
Plus, remember that LucasArts stuck with Kyle Katarn for some 5 games. That's just one character. For a while, all we got were games from the Rebel-Empire setting.
We're nearing the end of the Clone Wars, I'm sure. They have greatly filled in that time period with a lot of characters and stories, and I think LucasArts does have something of a long view.
NaeemTHM @ May 14th 2009 10:22AM
YES! A Trilogy of games based on the Yuuzhan Vong invasion would be awesome! Imagine starting as Jedi hero Jacen Solo, only to end as SITH LORD!
P.S. Spoiler up thar.
CaptainProtonX @ May 14th 2009 10:23AM
We're never going to get a decent game based on the original Trilogy. Never, ever, ever.
Never.
Sega's Arcade masterpiece is as close as we're going to get.
I don't think Lucasarts knows how to do it. They are so dumb-founded by Lucas' re-envisioning of Star Wars as Sesame Place in Space that the original grittiness and joy is dead.
Does anyone even remember Luke Skywalker? Han Solo? GODDAMN CHEWBACCA?
But we had to have the robot equivalent of Bert and Earny in space from day one.
Mr Khan @ May 14th 2009 12:17PM
decent game... original trilogy...
ooh!
http://www.vgchartz.com/games/game.php?id=6447
there ya go champ
Snowblind @ May 14th 2009 6:03PM
How about the Super Star Wars games?
Lego Star Wars 2 was good as well.
Twist @ May 14th 2009 10:36AM
Game might be okay. I will try the demo if they release one. If not then I don't know when I will get around to trying it.
What I really want to know is why haven't they made a sequel to Republic Commando yet?
CrystaljDesign @ May 14th 2009 4:00PM
YES. THIS. I thought that game was very successful critically at least, this needs a sequel! The only bad thing about the first one was the length of it.
iamnotafish @ May 14th 2009 10:58AM
Except you could choose the dark side or light side as Jacen. I always enjoyed that about KOTOR. I'd play through them as a holier-than-thou good guy and it would be tough. And then I'd play as a badass and it would be ridiculously easy. Force lightning FTW!
Rhamsey @ May 14th 2009 12:12PM
I'll pick this up once the price drops, by about 30-40 dollars.
Charlie_Six @ May 14th 2009 3:14PM
Yea me too. Can't see myself buying this at $60.
I like the show though. I wish the hair on the characters wasn't so completely inert and plastic looking though. Looks really terrible... :(
Mr Khan @ May 14th 2009 12:13PM
The easiest would probably be to make more Rogue Squadron games about the Rogue Squadron book series. The Krytos Trap, the Bacta War, Isard's Revenge, etc.
Jedi Academy, while a great book, was somewhat lacking on the action front.
Jelly Jedi @ May 14th 2009 1:11PM
who knows? maybe this will be just like Jedi Power Battles for ps1...it was a lot of fun.
The Dark Wayne @ May 14th 2009 3:47PM

that said, I think a yuuzhan vong game would be sweet, if not more of the same TFU or JK style action, personally my dream Star Wars game would be either a Clone Trooper (Commander, ARC Trooper, whatever fits) or Mandalorian based Mercenaries clone, only ya know, good
