Spielberg: Smartest and dumbest thing I did was sell my company to EA
Long ago, a young kid with a dream of breaking out of the movie business and into games named Stevie Spielberg showed up in Silicon Valley with just his cockeyed optimism and millions upon millions of dollars. But when times got tough, he made the decision to sell his company, Dreamworks Interactive, to EA, just as it was about to finish Medal of Honor.
Stevie's all grown up now, and says that he now realizes his game company could have stayed afloat based solely on the success of Medal of Honor. He told Reuters the move was the "smartest and dumbest thing [he] ever did."
... Wait, wait. Dumber than AI? Really?

AI was a good movie, I shall never watch it again - but it was worth watching once.
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ May 14th 2009 8:21PM
I watch it for first time in tv and I believe the critics who said it was revolutionary didn't get that it was about a new robo-pinocchio with aliens.Except it didn't have the message about not trusting strangers and without everything that was ever good about pinocchio.
Is like Wall-E,if the cirtics don't get it it must be genius.
Marrvia @ May 14th 2009 9:59PM
I love AI, I think it is a great movie.
CH3BURASHKA @ May 14th 2009 10:41PM
AI was awesome; Hailey Joel Osmond and Jude Law and aliens? Hell yea!
Demona @ May 15th 2009 8:54AM
Alien? What aliens? Those "aliens" were the highly-evolved machines of the future.... Stanley Kubrick has even confirmed this....

Oh c'mon, Justin, AI wasn't *that* bad. You're just upset you weren't an adorable child star, admit it.
Eh @ May 14th 2009 6:56PM
AI was pretty good, I choose not to remember the ending though.
Markez @ May 14th 2009 6:57PM
Apparently I did as well.
You seem to have struck a nerve, McElroy, AI Defense Force unite!
MowDownJoe @ May 14th 2009 8:47PM
*drags Justin to the bottom of a swimming pool*
FraGNeM @ May 14th 2009 6:59PM
Wow, 3 AI movie fans in a row? What is the world coming to?
AI was awful.
Ellianth @ May 14th 2009 7:02PM
Make that 4. I thought it was a good movie too. Mostly because that little boy is a good actor. Him and Dakota Fanning, or whatever her name is.
Rein @ May 14th 2009 7:12PM
AI was awesome. I forgave the ending because the scene where he is abandoned in the forest made me cry when I first saw the movie and movies never make me cry.
I play AI in defense mode! Your move, Kai--err, Justin!
Shagittarius @ May 14th 2009 7:13PM
And thus he doesn't try to make decent AI in any of his games...
zing?
Rocketboy @ May 15th 2009 9:52AM
Close... A for Effort...
Tremada @ May 14th 2009 7:24PM
I liked AI too. Screw you Justin!!
whylekat @ May 14th 2009 7:25PM
You idiots realize this post was about stevie selling his video game company, right? Not about AI.. Or any other movie.
It's about games people! Video Games!
ArchGamer @ May 14th 2009 7:26PM
Like any of these comments in this site ever involve games.
Mabui @ May 14th 2009 7:34PM
So, your post is part of the on topic conversation?
You really shouldn't be so hard on yourself!
Anyway, there is plenty of good companies going under these days that if he wanted his own separate company again he wouldn't have to spend a whole heck of a lot to get it.
Eh @ May 14th 2009 10:38PM
Clearly the mere mention of AI is way more interesting than the real story... whatever it is.
Bubbameister33 @ May 14th 2009 7:26PM
I want that teddy bear from the movie.

AI was an awesome movie, I have watched it many times. If you look at it as more than just a "Pinnochio story" there's a lot more to it.
Indy 4, now THAT was a steaming turd. 1941, also crap.
Shmil @ May 14th 2009 7:50PM
You thought AI was the dumbest move he's ever made? Its gotta be Crystal Skull man. That movie was atrocious.
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ May 14th 2009 8:24PM
What movie? What is this Crystal skull you speak of,I don't remember it,it was too dark and...I...I ...Oh my God Indy was raped before my eyes! why you had to bring that up you bastard.
Shmil @ May 14th 2009 11:39PM
i'm sorry Mr. ESC. I realize now whats in the ark. It was that movie and I didn't keep my eyes shut.
Shadowcast @ May 14th 2009 8:39PM
Funny... I appear to have come to the Ai blog... I meant to type joystiq.com.
Druff @ May 14th 2009 8:52PM
Holy crap. All these years, I've always thought I was the only person who liked A.I.
Christ-ian @ May 14th 2009 9:44PM
To this day I view A.I. as Speilberg's 3rd best movie, only behind Raiders and Minority Report (which, ironically, had an amazing sequence involving a blind Tom Cruise and a fridge)
ronald.raygun @ May 14th 2009 9:57PM
hmm for me its 1. munich, 2. saving private ryan 3. jurassic park 4. ij and the last crusade and then your list.
Markez @ May 14th 2009 10:10PM
Chasing an eyeball down a hallway was always a classic moment as well.
DBuck_Eye @ May 14th 2009 9:48PM
Maybe if he was still running the show my beloved MoH wouldn't have gone downhill after Frontline.
xblingdaddy2005x @ May 15th 2009 2:17AM
AI was terrible. Period. Dumb movie is definitely an understatement. Keep tellin' it like it is Justin.
Diskoboy7 @ May 15th 2009 2:41AM
Spielbergs five best movies..... Hmmmm, Lemmie see....
JAWS. JAWS. JAWS. JAWS. And RAIDERS!!! :)
Monkeydog @ May 15th 2009 3:49AM
AI would have been better if Kubrick lived long enough to finish it in his vision.
But it was still a great movie.
Snake Robot Podium @ May 15th 2009 8:09AM
"Dumber than AI?" Interesting choice of words. The machines will come for you first for insulting their intelligence.
Justin McElroy @ May 15th 2009 9:28AM
For what it's worth, I liked all of AI except the ending.
SO THERE.
Matias @ May 15th 2009 1:24PM
His most dumb movie must be E.T, I never got why it was so amazing (expecting lots of downvotes for this).
Ai was great, one of the few movies that acutally made me feel sad about the ending.
Ed @ May 18th 2009 9:53AM
Hey, AI was good!
