The video is actually a (much) higher quality version of what was "leaked" out of this year's Game Developers Conference. Through the magic of direct-feed video, you can now see every little detail as Drake performs new close-quarters fighting moves, utilizes the improved cover system and cracks wise after nearly being blown to smithereens. How's that for a hero? Watch it for yourself after the break.
Uncharted 2 single-player footage surfaces, is suitably off the chart

The multiplayer modes in Naughty Dog's high-adventure sequel, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, are good stuff for sure, but if you're anything like us you've been aching to see some more of the game's single-player side. We're all in luck, as footage has surfaced via GameTrailers showing a solo Nate Drake in action -- and oh, does it ever look good.

Looks like a pretty typical animation transision to me. It would be great if the interpolation could be better, but I'll settle for controlability over completely fluid looking animations any day of the week.
Of course this only matters when the graphics are realistic...when they are cartoony you can smooth everything because the movements don't have to appear realistic.

The roll animation itself looks fine, he must have caught a corner of the rubble's collision mesh or something, holding him back momentarily. I don't think every roll is going to look like that.

I think he changed direction during the roll and thats why it looked like that...or as you say caught the corner and was pushed sideways until the path was open causing the change of direction and the funny looking animation.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one that saw similarities between the two! It looks awesome, but the setting is really similar...

Specifically the first 30 seconds, the animations are very odd. The flip/roll from behind cover especially. I'm sure this is just one level, blah blah etc. but from this short clip that's my impression.

At least in Uncharted you can play while the story unfolds... i dont think the settings will be like in MGS4... this is like peru or someplace in southamerica.

The slid into cover and the roll out of it both look a tad fake, but apart from that the animations are flawless. I think the only reason those poorer animations stand out is because the rest of it is so damn good. In most other games, you wouldn't notice them as much. (See, for example: Gears of War, which has some similiar slide into cover animations.)

As if none of those things have ever been done in a video game before MGS4.

What happened to all the color from the original?

The funny thing about this is, even tho it's the typical "war torn city" we've all seen in other games, there's still plenty of color that would realistically be left behind in the rubble.

ugh, short clip to judge a lot on, but not being a drake player im kinda new to it... i must say i find it odd to run out in the open, melee a guy when a shooter is no more than 3 feet away and ur just wearing, well a t-shirt... i understand it's going arcade styles, but it also looks to be going real, and for a min reminded me of mgs4..

I agree, it doesn't make sense to charge two guys while they have you in their sights. I think they just wanted to show off the melee combat during this brief demo.

So is this game going to be another Gears of War shooter or are we actually going to get the adventure/platforming stuff?
Seriously,i'm going to be so disappointed if an Indiana Jones type of adventure game gets turned into a straight cover shooter just because it sells better.

This is actually a shorter version of a leaked video we saw a month or so ago. Straight after this, Drake does some platforming/exploration stuff for a few minutes, before the video ends.

I haven't played the first one yet (back log is gigantic), but the demo had a nice even mix of platforming and gun fights. It didn't feel like one took more over the other.

No,but from what I heard the first game gets super combat heavy near the 2/3rds mark.

I have learned something. Never doubt Naughty Dog, Insomniac or Sucker Punch. Everything they make is gold, nice shiny 24 karat gold.

I agree. These were some of the best developers of the ps2 generation, and only on that platform. Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter, and Sly Cooper were all amazing programming, execution, playability, storyline... now doing Resistance 1&2, Drake's Fortune 1&2, and InFamous. I always liked how hard Naughty Dog (Jack & Daxter) pushed the ps2, the furthest I've ever seen, with dynamic light and weather, in every game. These people are amazing, as are Insomniac (R&C) and Suckerpunch (Sly Cooper). And I heard that there may be a ps3 Sly Cooper this holiday! Whoot!
