Now, who would have thought you could print on both sides of paper? Apparently, Square Enix discovered it could do just that with its North American Final Fantasy: Dissidia box art. Taking advantage of the whole good versus evil theme, future owners of the title can choose whether they want to sport the villainous force of Chaos on the outside, or flip out the baddies for a cover featuring the heroic champions of Cosmos.
With this, and the recently announced Final Fantasy PSP bundle, it appears Square Enix is really looking to push Dissidia forward. Look out for it in August.

I'd personally prefer one to be on the front, and one on the back, with the reverse being something completely different, but that's just me.

If we're talking preferences, I actually prefer the Japanese boxart of Final Fantasy games where it's usually just the logo against a plain backdrop - much more elegant. It's pretty funny that in this day and age, Square Enix still doesn't seem to think us Western audiences are ready to purchase games sans the main characters posing for us on the covers.
On another note, from a manufacturing standpoint, it probably actually costs SE quite a bit more, relatively, to print a two-sided cover. It may only be an extra cent or two per cover, but that's substantial considering they're likely doubling their cover-printing costs. Bravo to them for deciding to give the consumers a nice little bonus.

A lot of PS3 and PSP games have art on the inside of the case. Flip the cover wrong-side-out and it often looks pretty cool. The best I have seen to do this with are MGS:PO, LittleBigPlanet, MG Ac!d, and Star Wars Battlefront: II. Give it a try. I'll wait.
It's nice to see a company encourage reversible covers. When I got my first PSP game, I thought, "why hasn't anyone done this sooner?"

The "two sided cover in a clear case" idea is really something Sony got right. It's a small difference, but it somehow makes you feel like you're getting a premium product. That said, I'm surprised the PSP MGS games have the feature while MGS4 for PS3 doesn't. In fact, MGS4 just has the exact same picture of a geriatric Snake staring at you three times - the cover, the manual and the disk. Kind of disturbing.

LBP's in particular looks great - I'm pretty sure they designed it with this in mind. Looks much better without all the extra crap covers have all them. Why do PS3 games have the big stripe on the left when it says Playstation 3 on the plastic at the top anyway...?

With Crisis Core, you end up with "Crisis Core __ Final Fantasy 7" on a black background, and the group being on the back (Cloud being the only thing on the Spine).
It's almost like they planned that.

It is really cool that the box art will be reversible. I like that Square Enix went with something more than just the logo like they have been for a lot of the handheld games. The logos only are clean and simple, but I think having characters on the cover catches the customer’s eye more. Also, it is nice that they used the actual character artwork instead of the CGI.
