What do you get when you cross an in incredibly accessible, casual MMO, a free-to-play subscription plan, a widely circulated ad campaign and magical, magical fairies? Why, you get Free Realms, of course -- and in turn, Free Realms gets 1,000,000 registered accounts in just 18 days.
We knew that Sony Online Entertainment had stumbled upon a recipe for mind-blowing success (an in-game trading card game and kart racing? That's just fiendish), but to get a million players on board in just over two weeks is simply remarkable. We're terrified to think of how this number will skyrocket when the game lands on PS3s. Terrified, we tell you!

It is like - every possible game wrapped up into one game. Though it isn't exactly free to play in my estimation - it is really seemingly just a long demo. I was had a Ninja up to level 15 and they put up the quest for getting level 20 but that was pay only - which was pretty disappointing.
It is pretty good though - all and all. Nothing done overly well - just a lot done.

Bah, it is not uncommon for an MMORPG to get 1mill+ registered accounts. It has happened with any PC MMORPG game (its nothing like an RPG console game)...
All they are saying is that a lot of people made accounts to "try it"... It doesn't mean that 1million+ users are going to actively play the game. Most of the people will probably try it for a few weeks and move on to something else when they figure out you need money to get anywhere decent in the game.
If you want a fun free MMORPG, try 2Moons. Its free, and you can level as high as everyone else, without paying money. It just takes longer.

To be honest, I only read the first paragraph of your comment because I didn't want to read any more. Anyways, you do realize this is a record amount in such a short time, right?

I received my Beta about a month ago....logged on and was there many hours that night.
It's kind of like a WoW game for kids.
I think it's a great idea to port to the PS3 so more kids would be able to have a game suited to their age to play.
It may also bring more younger people to the PS3, so I give credit to Sony for trying this.

Well, I knew it would be successful due to it's oddly cool-sounding formula, accessibility, and family-friendliness, but a million already? That was unexpected.
Good for them, this is definitely one of those positive-attention-getting things that Sony needs right now along with a great E3 and that promised assload of marketing. I mean sure, the mainstream media will still hate them some Sony, but whatever.

I really, really hate that your site doesn't have any external links. Especially in stories like this - it shouldn't be that unreasonable to have a link to this game's site. No one wants to go to your "Free Realms" tag when they click on that link, they want to go to the Free Realms website to see what it is that you're talking about.
