"we assume this means more costumes"

In a non-3D game? What, you think they drew the characters twice with different costumes? I'm thinking that's a bit of a stretch.

-Sigh- Ok, lets get this straight. Ranked Match is on 360 because 360 has the whole "Trueskill" system, which is what ranked matches are based on.

PS3 has "Clan" which allows you to gather up 3 friends, let each of them play the other 2 characters on your 3 man team, and allows you to move from game to game with the same group, as well as talk in a chatroom between matches (like 360's party system.)

AT FIRST, this makes it look like "Clan Play" is not available on 360, however...

If you look at the listing for KoF XII on the japanese Marketplace, it list "Online Co-Op for 2 to 6 players". This leads one to believe while there is no "Clan" mode in the 360 one, the gameplay of the mode will probably be doable, most likely using the "Team Battle" option presented when creating a match.

So, it looks like SNKP is just presenting options that use the consoles abilities, and as a bonus for PS3, they have added a feature that strengthens it's online side, to potentially equal ability to the 360 party system.

And as for DLC... These aren't 3D models, thus, most likely, there won't be "costumes". However, there could be alternative colors, and maybe additional stages and characters., maybe even music. It looks doubtful any of it would be "on the Disk", because it seems SNKP is strapped for time with this game. If not, they'd probably present the game with more characters in the first place. As you can see here, under the "Development" section ( http://snk.wikia.com/wiki/The_King_of_Fighters_XII ) it takes them 16 to 17 months to make a character, with a team of 10 designers. So I kinda Doubt they'd put YEARS worth of character-work on the disk like that, only to hide it! ^_^

I'm looking forward to this game more than any of the remaining fighters announced to come out the year, personally! As if the already-announced addition of Mature and Elisabeth to the Roster wasn't enough, and the "Co-OP" battle mode, to think the game could grow even more is very exciting to me.

D-pads don't matter when you've got so many joysticks/fightpad controllers available for both of the systems! T.E. Stick and Fight Pad on 360 here!

I'd get it for the system I have the most fighter friends on, and with the best controller options. Since the Fightpads/Sticks are still in semi-limited supply, maybe you could also fuel your decision by seeing which system you could find a better controller for, if you're really serious about fighters.

Part of me agrees with you. But the other part of me has nearly 100 diffierent controllers for different systems, etc. I'm getting tired of buying new controllers. Being serious about a game or not is a rather lacking excuse to add two-four more monstrosities in my house.

Oh, I understand how you must feel! I mean it more like this: If you really want to get the most out of your fighters, especially with so many of them coming out, you'd do well to invest in a good quality joystick or "fightpad" controller. I've heard of people who have been able to mod old PS1 joysticks to work on their 360's and whatnot, so a quality joystick can really be seen as an investment, if you are willing to go that far. I definitely don't mean "You're only serious IF you buy expensive controllers!"

I've been a fighting fan for YEARS, and never got a joystick for home 'til recently, because the quality stuff always seemed too far out of reach for my taste (Japanese made, needed importing, customs where very expensive, etc), so the newest MadCatz T.E SFIV stick was PERFECTLY made for me (Got a Hori stick to practice with right before that.) So I just wanna say, as a newer user of Joysticks, that I think they're very worthwhile in getting! I absolutely love the fact that I can have SNK style A-B-C-D at home, without owning a Neo Geo. Just like playing AES machines back in the 90s, in the arcades...

Exclusive... game types? That's a new one. And a totally illogical one at that.
