If your earholes have ever been graced by the presence of music created by DJ Shadow, we've got positively thrilling news for you -- the popular turntablist has been lending his encyclopedic knowledge of record mixology to Activision for months now as the developer works on DJ Hero. Not only that, he's also apparently lent his likeness and a few of his mashed-up tracks as well, according to his recent interview with Game Informer.
If you're not a fan of Mr. Shadow's music, there's still some stuff in that interview that might interest you. For instance, he lays out the basic gameplay structure of the game, explaining, "you have two records playing, and you have a sample track, and you have to basically simulate what you're hearing." Ah, yes. Given our history as professional Bar Mitzvah disc jockeys (certainly you've heard of DJ Rabbinical and the Mohels), we feel confident in saying that sounds spot on.

Wether you are interested in these DJ games or not (I know I'm not), DJ Shadow defines what turntablists are capable of, in my opinion

I'm not really interested in the game either. I do enjoy some DJ Shadow from time to time, however.
I especially like UNKLE, a side project he was involved in with James Lavelle. You should check that out, the album is called "Psyence Fiction". UNKLE has a bunch more albums out, but that one is arguable the best. It's got some collaborations on there with Mike D, Richard Ashcroft, Thom Yorke and Badly Drawn Boy, to name a few.

DJ Shadow, huh, that's kinda cool.
A real shame that I'm not supporting Activision's BS anymore. 9 'hero' games in one year? Excuse my french, but FUCK THAT SHIT
People used to complain when EA was 'killing' the football genre by putting out what amounted to roster updates each year. Activision is practically doing that every month, and yet people still support them?

Didn't we have this discussion the other day?
If you don't think it takes talent to be a good turntablist, well, you probably don't know shit about turntablism. It's as easy as that. You can go ahead and dispute its validity as an instrument all you want (though I still feel that's retarded considering the definition of instrument), but to act as though it takes no talent, no skill, no musical insight... well, bro, that's pretty stupid. Then again, I wouldn't be surprised if you're one of those tards who believes that all there is to it is cross-fading and scratching...

Yeah, the flaw in your whole attack mode Shag is that you assume that a DJ is only a DJ, and that's it. I know several touring, successful, instrument-playing professional musicians who also DJ a lot. It's only the haters that assume that's all the the DJ does or wants to be. Shadow has a wicked scratch, with a lot of control and swing, and he also drums a bit to create breaks for some of his recordings.
I actually don't care that much if people are super-skilled musicians - being a good guitarist, etc., doesn't always mean good music. I'm happy with mediocre skills or samples if the energy and heart is there. I'd take listening to 'Never Mind The Bollocks' or "What Does Your Soul Look Like" over some super-tight noodling by some dick at a Guitar Center workshop. I enjoy well-played music with humans playing instruments, but I also respect what goes into hip-hop and breaks. It's like photography vs. painting; I don't bother arguing which is better, I just appreciate both.
On a side tangent, that is a sick Raiden-esque illustration of Shadow! That 'Ape General' sweatshirt is taking it back a decade when BAPE was almost exclusively seen in pics of Beastie Boys, Futura, James Lavelle, Solex, Cornelius, Ian Brown, and of course Shadow himself. I'm not mad, but I do see a lot of spazzes wearing it now.
I wish he was down with the OTHER dj game though. That controller and the BS conflict between the companies is what's wrong with hip-hop in '96, if you know whatuhmsayin'.

If that Turntable controller that Activision's UK press release recently put up was the final concept, how exactly would we be supposed to "basically simulate what you're hearing", given that that controller is a singlular wheel of steel and has no cross-fader?
