Rumorong: Battlefield Heroes not heading to PS3/360 [update]
Though we're running this one under the "likely an error and probably not a hot scoop" category, a listing for Battlefield Heroes on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 has appeared on the EA press site. Pointed out by GOONLINE (their caps, not ours), the listing posits a June 2009 release date -- interesting considering the PC version of the game has been marred by delays. The site also pegs the PC version with a September release, a significantly more solid release date than EA has provided as of late.
At this point, however, we'd like to note that the game's developer, DICE, has stated before its lack of interest in console ports of the game, telling Videogamer.com a year ago, "We could port the engine and do it, I just don't know what we would gain from it. Everyone's who's [sic] got a 360 or PS3 also will have a PC that can run this game." We've reached out for comment from EA and will update you when we hear more.
Update: As expected, EA's Ben Cousins has shot the rumor down.

I'm not buying both this and BattleField 1943 in June EA. [face_plain]
The Baron @ May 17th 2009 3:05PM
This is a free game..
Cj @ May 17th 2009 3:13PM
pwned
Hashbrown Hunter @ May 17th 2009 3:37PM
What are the chance of Battlefield Heroes being released for free on XBL and PSN?
Zip. Zilch. Nada.
Black Mage @ May 17th 2009 3:48PM
@Hashbrown Hunter
Agreed, Sony's bandwidth charges make free games almost impossible, and Microsoft won't pass up a chance to make some money.
time @ May 17th 2009 4:07PM
if not free, then very cheap
The Baron @ May 17th 2009 4:40PM
They'd get the money back from optional microtransactions through PSN and XBLA - those services are already perfect for it (think the premium costumes for LBP).
That's why this game exists in the first place; DICE aren't just feeling generous and spreading the love with a not-for-profit free game.
MrKlorox @ May 17th 2009 10:12PM
Replace "DICE" with "EA" and you will then be correct. This game is in the interest of the publisher, not the developer.
Regardless, this is still just an error. Heroes will not come out on cosoles BEFORE it comes out on the PC, which has been in closed beta for a while now. They're definitely still going to be tweaking the game throughout Summer.
Paul Mitchell @ May 17th 2009 3:05PM
These are also the slated release months for 1943 on those respective platforms. I'm betting this is a typo.
Game_playa @ May 17th 2009 7:24PM
And I'm betting this isn't..
MrKlorox @ May 17th 2009 10:09PM
It's absolutely a mistake. The dates underline this.
mikeout @ May 17th 2009 3:05PM
Well, I wouldn't either Little Pete. Since Battlefield Heroes is FREE on the PC. I guess (if this will make any sense at all) that this will be the case for the PS3 as well. Could be interesting to see if this is even possible with the XBL platform (making it free).
Ah well, never a bad thing!
ExMcCloud @ May 17th 2009 3:12PM
I can't see this game doing well on consoles...But hey I could be wrong?
Cj @ May 17th 2009 3:14PM
Would be a fine Arcade title. And what are they gaining? Um money. It wont be free on consoles. So even if they sell it for like $15. Itll be good.
Anticrawl @ May 17th 2009 3:39PM
It is a fun title but I wouldn't pay for it.
mars @ May 17th 2009 3:16PM
I agree that it wouldn't release for free on consoles. Microsoft wouldn't even allow valve to allow the Team Fortress 2 updates onto the Xbox 360 for free.
I have the beta of this game, but I was wondering if there is any way to hook up a 360 controller and play it that way. If somebody knows how can they please reply.
FU5I0N uk @ May 17th 2009 8:38PM
just plug in a wired 360 pad and map the buttons in the settings on battlefield heroes. that's what i did and its great :)
MrKlorox @ May 17th 2009 10:07PM
Yeah, controller is fine for use on Heroes... as long as you choose Nationals. You then never have to worry about losing.
Msharingan @ May 17th 2009 3:40PM
Isn't it just a tad bit to obvious that they mean to have 'Battlefield 1943: Pacific' instead of 'Battlefield Heroes'?
NeilNaS @ May 17th 2009 3:41PM
Once they add some more worthwhile content and get out of that very unorganized beta process, I'm sure it'll be worth something to pay for!
Bailers @ May 17th 2009 6:54PM
I agree. I gave up a month ago with the game. It's fun in small doses, but given the choice between heroes and COD4 or even Bad Company, it isn't a hard choice.
Will @ May 21st 2009 9:49PM
This very well could just be battlefield 1943 renamed by EA.
Dr_demento @ May 17th 2009 3:51PM
Um, firstly, "who's" is short for "who has" and is therefore correct.
Secondly - MS / Sony would definately let them release it on XBLA / PSN for free, provided they don't release it on PSN / XBLA.
dyt1983 @ May 17th 2009 9:45PM
Except when "who's" follows "everyone's" [sic]. So your argument would better be suited to where the "sic" should go.
yo Naturale @ May 17th 2009 3:54PM
GOON-LINE: Party line where single bullies go to chat with other single bullies.
Sahand @ May 17th 2009 5:00PM
too good to be true.
Alex @ May 17th 2009 5:11PM
"Everyone's who's [sic] got a 360 or PS3 also will have a PC that can run this game"
I don't. Does that mean I'm nobody?
Cleaner475 @ May 17th 2009 5:20PM
Same here - I'd definetly pay $15 or $20 for it on PS3
Inect @ May 17th 2009 10:36PM
Do you have any clue how many good games require pixel shader 2.0. Why don't i have pixel shader 2.0?
DePetri @ May 17th 2009 5:12PM
"Everyone's who's [sic] got a 360 or PS3 also will have a PC that can run this game."
Untrue. I tried to run this game with my sister's laptop which has an integrated graphics chip, and it didn't run well at all. Frames were like less than a five constantly.
MrKlorox @ May 17th 2009 10:05PM
Hi. PC does not mean laptop. Sure some laptops can play much newer games than this (old engine) but that doesn't put laptops on the same level as your standard non-gaming desktop.
erivera3 @ May 18th 2009 4:25AM
They should have put the "[sic]" after the "everyone's", not after the "who's".
Anyway, who's [sic] gives [sic] a SHITE [sic].
Nobledevil @ May 17th 2009 5:26PM
I don't think he realizes how many idiots don't have computers. Yes, idiots. If you have a computer but not one that can run this that's absolutely fine by me (hey, gaming on PCs isn't everyone's cup of tea so getting a decent rig may not be important).
If you can't afford a computer at all right now, that's fine too. However, if you spend thousands of dollars in a year in gaming and don't have at least a crappy old-ass computer (PC, Mac, whatever) at all, you are a jackass.
Billop @ May 17th 2009 5:31PM
This is true, I have a...meh PC with a Geforce 7600 GT. Its not the best, but capable of running games like Mass Effect rather well on medium/max
MrKlorox @ May 17th 2009 10:02PM
Agreed. That's what I say to those that spend thousands of dollars annually to keep their PC in tip top condition and then complain when the sequel to their favorite series isn't listed for PC. If they'd drop less than the price they spend for a videocard on a console instead, they would get to play the game. Of course they'd still complain about the resolution and having to learn how to use a dual thumbstick controller.
Yingerman @ May 17th 2009 5:37PM
OMG, I'm in the beta for BFH and its so much fun! I really hope that this is not just an error
Keliah PL @ May 18th 2009 5:45AM
I won't believe [until any offical MS notes whatsoever] that this game would be released on XBL as a free title. Even so, I think I'll rather keep playing it on my laptop [even with an integrated graphics it works just fine] because it's an ideal title for playing when not at home, in places where you simply can't take your console. There are better multiplayer games in this category for xbox 360, for.e.g team fortress 2.
BIF J0RDI @ May 18th 2009 10:55AM
I reckon the ideas behind this if it were to happen would be to combine the content with Battlefield 1943 and include Battlefield Heroes within the 1200msp price, so in theory you are getting Battlefield Heroes for free but only if you buy Battlefield 1943 as well, which would be a good thing
David @ May 17th 2009 6:11PM
Please EA, release it on consoles. I would much rather sit on my couch with a controller and enjoy the game, than sitting on a desk and play it with a keyboard and a mouse. This game would have been successful on consoles in my opinion (let it cost 10-20 bucks and/or add some advertisements in the game and you should gain profits).
PS36Wii Fanboy @ May 17th 2009 6:30PM
I knew EA couldn't handle the word "Free Game" in their company. lol.
Tez @ May 17th 2009 6:32PM
Releasing this and 1943 at the same time doesn't sound too smart. I'm guessing it's a typo.
TypeF @ May 17th 2009 6:46PM
I'll stick with the free version on the PC if they're thinking of charging for the console version.
GordoJones @ May 17th 2009 9:08PM
I'll buy it if it's free.
Ted @ May 17th 2009 9:02PM
Rumor falls flat.
This is obviously meant to be Battlefield 1943, which is coming out in June for consoles and September for PC.
Heroes is already in public (private, but keys are everywhere) beta for PC, so that doesn't make sense.
NYKnicker @ May 18th 2009 8:46AM
It would be if Battlefield Heroes would be added to the gaming consoles... maybe in the future.
glenncou @ May 18th 2009 9:01AM
The BFH dev team announced via Twitter (@bfheroes) that this rumor is false. BFH is not coming to consoles.
