New FPS on the way -- for Dreamcast

Hypertension is a reimagining of Blood, made in the Doom-based EDGE engine. The use of fairly antiquated technology, and source material, seem appropriate for a game being released on a console that came out in 1999 After the break, you can see some footage of the current alpha version of Hypertension, which is looking very Doomy. TDGMods has yet to specify a release date for the game, but it's not like there's a rush at this point. The Dreamcast will still be old.

Duke @ May 19th 2009 11:44AM
Gotta be honest, I just bought another Dreamcast last week. I was always bothered that I let mine go and finally broke down and got another one. (Another guy I know bought one this week too.) I would love to see a new release for it now!
CH3BURASHKA @ May 18th 2009 8:14PM
This is ridiculous. Why are they making it for the Dreamcast when the Dreamcast 2 is coming out in only a few months???
Young_Nastyman @ May 18th 2009 8:25PM
I know right
Brian @ May 18th 2009 11:23PM

Linkario @ May 18th 2009 8:14PM
Yeah but haven't there actually been a few new games for the DC released over the past few years? Non homebrew games at that.
Young_Nastyman @ May 18th 2009 8:27PM
wtf? that was meant for CH3BURASHKA
XGM @ May 18th 2009 11:42PM
Darn comment system that was supposed to be to CH3BURASHKA.

lol. We almost put Nirvana music in there. =)
Xera077 @ May 18th 2009 8:17PM
I thought people think the PS2 has a 10 year life span.
Dreamcast is already 10 years and still supported by small companies.
Eat your heart out Sony. (Even though you killed the PS2)
Xera077 @ May 18th 2009 8:19PM
I meant the Dreamcast.
Zoops.
I fail.
*price is right failure music coming in*
The Dark Wayne @ May 18th 2009 8:43PM
you know the PS2 was still outselling the 360 in Japan for a couple of months THIS YEAR right?
JohnHype @ May 18th 2009 8:50PM
Umm...the PS2 is still supported by major companies. WTF are you on, mate?
Slayer @ May 18th 2009 9:07PM
@Xera077
What the fuck are you talking about?
Sheppy (of the Fidlious Clan of Wong) @ May 18th 2009 9:11PM
Actually Sega and Shenmue killed the Dreamcast. It's about time gamers start putting the responsibility in the hands of a company that was poorly ran at the time.
Massmass @ May 18th 2009 9:43PM
lol, shenmue killed the dreamcast... Brilliant...
Sega, and only Sega killed the Dreamcast. Their missteps started while developing the Saturn and only continued exponentially thereafter.
Sheppy (of the Fidlious Clan of Wong) @ May 18th 2009 10:47PM
Actually their missteps started before the Saturn. The Sega CD wasn't exactly a runaway success but 32X was a HUGE blow. Followed by Saturn.
And I was serious about Shenmue. $70 million to dev a single game was a HUGE risk of Pac-Man for 2600 proportions. Meaning to recover the investment for Shenmue, they would have to sell more copies of that game than they did Dreamcasts.... Shenmue was a MASSIVE blow to the Dreamcast.
Jason @ May 19th 2009 10:25PM
Really... I see.
aReEeNeN @ May 18th 2009 8:17PM
The system that just won't die. The only problem is this persistence must have rubbed off on Sonic Team. If only someone would put them out of their misery...
Mr Khan @ May 18th 2009 10:05PM
The misery of making awesome games...
ice~ @ May 18th 2009 10:49PM
Mr. Kahn. Always here to defend the sonic team and their mediocre games!
What would we do without ya :P
ah i'm just playin, but i just noticed you're always defending sonic lol
CTC XBL-supapaypamawio PSN-ctclaw @ May 19th 2009 12:52PM
Dude, Sonic Team blows. Everyone knows it. Just because they put out a game for Wii that you want to claim as good so you can justify buying it doesn't make it a good game. It's time to move on and stop buying these games, you're only helping them make worse and worse games such as Sonic Werehog Adventures.
Nicholas @ May 24th 2009 10:48PM
Put them outta their misery? Well, yeah, the last few... dozen... Sonic games have been TERRIBLE. But still, the Sonic franchise is one of the best (behind Mario, Legend of Zelda, and StarFox) out there, and Sega is looking for the medicine needed to revive my favorite hedgehog and put him back on top. Maybe a Mario-Sonic Kart with all Mario and all Sonic Characters with lag-free online, DAILY tournaments, a story mode (kinda weird for Mario Kart, but just an idea), and minigames. It's not like Mr. Kahn is protecting some vague third-party character; he's favoring one of the franchises that has defined videogames.
j.howlett @ May 18th 2009 8:20PM
dreamcast and ps2 games are still releasing. xbox, got anything besides madden?
Hi Sam! @ May 18th 2009 8:21PM
Called Guitar Hero...
On the N-Gage.
Jon2309 @ May 19th 2009 9:04AM
I thoroughly enjoy my N-Gage, thank you.
Even if I use my n95 instead nowadays. And have had GH3 for it for months. BUT THAT'S NOT THE POINT!
KeenCommander @ May 18th 2009 8:21PM
(Me upon first seeing that screenshot): DEAR LORD IS THAT BLOOD???
OK, Blood is one of the best FPS games ever. EVER! And if it was released, with no graphical updates, for anything (it's really hard to get to run, at least in my experience), I would buy it on the spot. Glad to see someone's doing something with it. Unfortunately, I've seen another project porting the game to the Quake engine already. As far as I can know, it was abandoned without being completed. I just hope this fares better.
jynxycat @ May 18th 2009 8:26PM
It wasn't that great o_O
KeenCommander @ May 18th 2009 9:25PM
The level design was spectacular. Of course the mechanics were nothing particularly innovative, but that alone makes it a step above. Personally, I thought it was leagues above Duke Nukem 3D at the very least - and probably more fun than Quake, even if not a technically better game.
chunkyBUTT @ May 19th 2009 6:36AM
yeah the creators went into agreement with the quake blood authors. i think they are going to use the content to actually make something out of the work that was lost. all in all i hope they finish, this looks wicked
ron funches @ May 18th 2009 8:21PM
Anyone else notice the picture used from RE 4.
chunkyBUTT @ May 19th 2009 5:43AM
ya they're trying to throw in cultural references like duke3d, blood, and shadow warrior did. was pretty cool to see.
Heh @ May 18th 2009 8:22PM
Once again, this just proves that the dreamcast is the best console to ever exist.
Hi Sam! @ May 18th 2009 8:24PM
PS2 says hi.
Can't be the best console ever if the console went bye bye in like in two years.
Heh @ May 18th 2009 8:27PM
"Can't be the best console ever if the console went bye bye in like in two years."
You must've never owned one. Because the DC was, by far, the best system ever made. ;D
Xera077 @ May 18th 2009 8:31PM
I did.
It's not very durable.
Fuck you AOL. Sonsofbitches.
Foetoid @ May 18th 2009 8:33PM
Sam did not just say the Ps2 was the best console of all time did he? Not only was the GC better in that gen (who cares about sales, the games were better) but the N64 is the best console of all time. I'm not hating on the Ps2, i have so many fond and memorable moments with that console (DMC, GOW, FFX) but overall, i found GC games to be better.
IMO.
Xera077 @ May 18th 2009 8:37PM
If the GC was so great name a game other Mario, Zelda, F-Zero, Tales, Resident Evil, Smash bros, Metroid, Killer Z, Eternal Darkness, and AC.
And those that are not ports of the PS2 as well. They is very little third party support on the GCN. Granted imo I think it's the second best console last year because I didn't like the VCR box.
But GCN didn't offer much outside of First Party and very few good third party support. PS2 had everything.
Foetoid @ May 18th 2009 8:44PM
Lol. You do realise that taking every game from each of the franchises you named for that console gets you something like 20 games worth buying at least. The only ones i can see in my own collection that isn't from those franchises are both Pikmin games, Rogue Leader and Ikaruga. My memory of other good games is faint. I'm sure Time Splitters was in there somewhere.
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ May 18th 2009 8:46PM
Well I'm slightly bored so lets discuss old systems and games because the games of this generation might be pretty but most of them are boring seriously Halo :CE level design would kick Halo 3 levels right the face anyday.
I have to say that the DC was the only console as a PC gamer that I actually wanted just for the Sonic Adventure games and stuff you don't get at PC like platformers etc.It was also very innovative for example you could play games in the memory card, how cool was that?
Now that I liked more the PS2 in the past generation for the fact the game library was huge and no matter what you liked there was something for you so if you didn't like mainstream games there was a lot of cool indie games you could play.Unlike this generation in which every console should have the tag "Well I sure hope you like shooters and sandbox games".
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ May 18th 2009 8:57PM
Since no one mentions the xbox I will....You should have bought a PS2 Lololol. J/k
I remember the day the xbox was released because I attended the launch event.
The first 2 games I played were Voodo the doll which was a standard platforming game and Halo CE.
I won a H:CE tournament that day and my exact thoughts were "Yeah I guess is nice if you don't own an upgraded PC like me now can you tell the Fatso hugging the xbox with Midtown madness to move"
There was only 1 xbox with Midtown Madness 3 (And I happened to be a fan of the game,I had in PC)the rest had Halo,Jet Set Radio which I played (It was original),Dead or Alive (I finished 3 times in super hard in less than 15 minutes) and some f*ed up people standing in row for Dead or Alive Volleyball.
If you ask me the best xbox games are the Oddworld ones, just fantastic, and everything ever made by Rare.
Mr Khan @ May 18th 2009 10:08PM
The Dreamcast was the native console of Sonic Adventure 2 and Phantasy Star Online, which makes it the 2nd best console of all time
However, GameCube had Metroid Prime and Smash Bros Melee (as well as the better ports of Sonic Adventure 2 and the expansions of Phantasy Star Online), so it takes the helm as the best console of all time
Insight (Fatass Defense Force) @ May 19th 2009 12:15AM
"Not only was the GC better in that gen (who cares about sales, the games were better) but the N64 is the best console of all time."
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahaha
Don't get me wrong, both of those game systems have their gems. Some serious fucking gems, like Metroid Prime (my favorite 3D game) and Super Mario 64/Sunshine (both fantastic games in their own rights)
...and not much else.
SNES > PS2 > Gamecube > Genesis > N64
I understand you're a vehement Nintendo fan, but come on now, the PS2 had far more quality titles than the Gamecube did. And the N64?...
@Mr Khan
I'd argue about Sonic Adventure 2 but as so many Joystiqqers have shown me in the past, any points that I make valid though they may be will be thrown out the window in favor of the following counter argument
'well, Insight, you're just hating cuz it's the cool thing to do'
or at least that's the logic Wiinterfang used to present every.single.time I ever said anything negative about the game
