Scans of the latest issue of Game Informer detail controller options and gameplay for Activision's upcoming mixmaster sim, DJ Hero. According to the scans (via Raging Gamer), gameplay will feel at home for Guitar Hero fans, setting tunes upon a three-note track with the outside tracks (green and blue) crossfading left and right. As a note track shifts in position, players must use the crossfader switch on the controller to correctly play the note (think of it as drawing within the lines).
Similar to drum fill sections in Rock Band, DJ Hero allows players to customize certain sections of gameplay with an effects dial on the controller. Certain note tracks will ask players to scratch the controller's platter to successfully complete the note. Also, a rewind setting allows gamers to replay sections of a tune and, of course, the game includes a Star Power-esque multiplier (dubbed "Euphoria"), activated by a button.
Left handed gamers can also join in on the fun as the two-piece controller can be separated and swapped. Looks like Activision is pro-mutant. Kidding, lefties! For all the info make sure to check out the latest issue of Game Informer -- which you probably have nine subscriptions to... and don't even know it.

I have the mag and the screens for this make it look pretty cool, and DJ Shadow's inclusion as a dev-consultant/character is a definite plus. That said, I think I'm done buying peripherals this gen (unless that new MS camera turns out to work as well as they think it may, but I'm not holding my breath.)

I read Joystiq.
Therefore I would not have seen this information if it was not for Joystiq.

Me neither. My subscription ran out last year and never renewed, so I'm happy that Joystiq is keeping me in the loop. Honestly, one of the main reasons I never renewed was because Joystiq is so informative and on top of everything.

Huh? Do you yell at CNN for covering the same stories as Fox News?
I'm pretty sure 9/11 was covered by more than one news network, idiot.

I'd hardly consider the importance of this news comparable to 9/11, probably more along the lines of obama gettting elected.

This is looking horrid.........
They should at least have mimiced the controller of Beatmania
FREQUENCY & AMPLITUDE are still the best IMO.
HARMONIX should update them with a DJ Controller that they design....they'd get it right.

If you make a game controller that is similar to Beatmania, then you are just making Beatmania. For all we know, DJ Hero can and will play entirely different to Beatmania. Can't make that judgement until we see this game in action.
Also, I don't trust Harmonix with controllers. The necks on RB Strats are WAY too skinny for my big hands. Also, I hate that effects switch that you can accidentally trigger. Makes the songs sound bad. I also don't like the lack of space between frets. I accidentally hit Green and Red with one finger, for example. The frets used to be too clacky, and the strum bar used to be mushy. Those are fixed on the RB2 controller, but I still don't like the strum bar. I love the click and response of the non-world tour Guitar Hero controllers. (They switched the switches on the GH controllers to worse ones on the WT guitar)
The RB2 drums are better than the GH:WT drums, build wise. However, I would rather play GH:WT with WT drums. Auto-converted tracks aren't that good.

yeah but some companies manage to attract customers by being nice/having good customer service/making good products. it's a cycle.
obviously everything is ultimately about money.

For all that I have little faith in Activision, this *could* end up being really fun. mind you, the developer doesn't exactly have a stellar track record.
My biggest concern isn't that the game won't be good, but that the business model behind it will suck balls. Acti aren't exactly known for their focus on the customer, more on the contents of the customer's wallet.
But at the end of the day, I do love me some plastic peripherals.

Fun fact: No for-profit company cares about their customers more than they do about their customers' money. Companies like Valve don't offer free content to be nice; they do it because it gets people to buy their games.

Is Lil Wayne gonna be in this game?
And why isn't he in Rock Band and/or Guitar Hero. His new rock cd Rebirth makes perfect sense for the game.

I actually wanna play this. Sure, Activision is burning Guitar Hero straight down to the ground by releasing 5 games for it this year, but this honestly looks fun.
And wow are some of you angry about this. Activision wouldn't pull their sh*t if it didn't make them assloads of money, so when they stop making money they'll pull some new sh*t. Big deal.
