Fallout 3 DLC coming to PS3 beginning late June, two new multiplat packs announced

In addition, two new DLC packs have been announced and will be heading to both platforms. Point Lookout, as revealed by retailers earlier this month, will feature a massive swampland area to explore and in Mothership Zeta you'll suffer through an alien abduction. These packs will be available on Xbox 360 and PC starting late June and on PS3 once the first three have been released.
If you don't have an internet connection (huh?) these packs can still be obtained through two new disc-based packages for Xbox 360 and PC. The first -- containing Anchorage and The Pitt -- will be available in June in Europe and May 26 in the US, with the second containing the rest of the DLC in August worldwide. A GOTY version of Fallout 3 will be available in October for PS3, 360 and PC, which will include all five add-on packs.

picasotriggerfish @ May 19th 2009 3:32PM
I'll have to put it on my GameFly list so I can install it to the HDD.
WonderCaliban @ May 19th 2009 10:31AM
I thought the DLC was exclusive to XBOX.
ps360owner @ May 19th 2009 10:31AM
well you thought wrong my friend.
Hyams @ May 19th 2009 10:34AM
Nothing ever remains exclusive this gen...
... except MGS4. That game is special.
Jake @ May 19th 2009 10:37AM
Like Bioshock it was probably a case of "Timed Exclusivity". I honestly wouldnt be surprised if the GTA4 pack made the jump to PS3 too. Also... I wouldnt be surprised if it didnt. lol
AshStampede @ May 19th 2009 10:37AM
@ Hyams plenty are exclusive, they just have to be made and published by 1st party developers
Hyams @ May 19th 2009 10:39AM
Well, yeah, that's kind of obvious. =P
Although Halo 4 or Gran Turismo 5 going multiplat would be funny.
Snowblind @ May 19th 2009 10:48AM
This content was never actually exclusive, it was just Bethesda not being able to release it on the PS3 for technical reasons.. Exactly the same as what happened with Oblivion.
This patch apparantly fixes whatever was wrong.
el serpiente @ May 19th 2009 11:05AM
"it was just Bethesda not being able to release it on the PS3 for technical reasons."
Riiiiight, silly fanboy. You need to take off those green-tinted glasses.
Levi @ May 19th 2009 11:09AM
Snowblind, can we get a link on that brother? Cause I remember them saying they just weren't going to patch the PS3 version or bring the DLC over, having nothing to do with technical reasons. Would make sense anyway. Both systems run the core game, both have hard drives, both have digital distribution services. But if you got a link, send it our way.

Let's not play the fanboy card, hm? :)
el serpiente @ May 19th 2009 11:28AM
So? Doesn't magically make what you said any less dumb.
Jez @ May 19th 2009 11:57AM
In Snowblind's defence http://uk.xboxlive.ign.com/articles/983/983990p1.html makes reference to the fact that there was more work involved in the PS3 versions hence the delay. Stop jumping on him based on your assumptions that he's a fanboy.
Snowblind @ May 19th 2009 12:07PM
It was mainly in regards to Oblivion, but Bethesda said numerous times in other interviews, as well as that one that the PS3's architecture made it difficult for them to release DLC for it, which is why Oblivion only got the DLC as part of the GoTY version and why they couldn't do it up until now with Fallout
"A patch will be released for the game in order to make these DLC packs work with the PS3 version of the game"
el serpiente @ May 19th 2009 12:27PM
Well, if that was the case then why didn't Bethesda say that they needed more time to do the DLC, instead of flatly saying that they had no plans for it?
Come on, it's pretty obvious.
Traceur_ryuk_shinigami @ May 19th 2009 1:28PM
I don't see LBP, killzone 2, gears 2 (is that first party?), or MGS4 ever going multi. I think those are all third party.
Traceur_ryuk_shinigami @ May 19th 2009 1:33PM
Nvm, I'm an idiot. Lbp and kz2 are both first party. I don't know if gears is or not, I think so....hmm...well, in that case the only (major) third party titles are that are exclusive are L4D, mgs4, and...I have no idea
Hyams @ May 19th 2009 2:48PM
Gears 1 and 2 are second party. EPIC (a third part developer) own the franchise, but Microsoft own the publishing rights to those two game.
Gears 3 could go multiplat, because Microsoft only bought the publishing rights for the first two games, but I can't imagine Microsoft letting such a big franchise go multi. They'll almost certainly secure the rights to Gears 3.
Jason @ May 19th 2009 10:14PM
The reason for the delay is because of all of the extra time and attention that goes into Blu-ray DLC. God, I'm surprised you didn't know that.
Temple @ May 19th 2009 11:26PM
I think its pretty obvious that there was some MS money involved with it. Clearly, being that the engine and game are already running on the PS3 the 'technical issues' excuse is a weak one.
Clearly a timed exclusivity agreement and NDA much like GTA4.
Jez @ May 20th 2009 6:19AM
IGN: Why is it that the first three pieces of DLC are finally hitting the PS3? Was it a timed exclusivity deal, or was something else worked out?
Todd Howard: It's mostly the workload on us. Based on our Oblivion experience, it was clear that Xbox users were much more comfortable buying content, by a wide margin. It's a lot of work to get them ready for a particular platform and now that they've been so popular, we want to get them on the PS3. And there's obviously been a lot of frustration on the part of PS3 owners, who don't feel they are getting the total Fallout 3 experience, and we don't want that to happen. We want everyone to have everything, but we still need to set priorities so we can use our development time wisely.
Why was I voted down?
icy1007 @ May 20th 2009 7:11AM
So is the DLC being released on PSN? Or will it only be available retail?
Kenny Powers Fastball (PSN johnnynumber5) @ May 20th 2009 12:59PM
Jez & Snowblind
If the two of you actually believe this DLC was a timed exclusive because of problems making it work on the PS3 then you are either complete idiots or shills.
All you need to do is look at GTA IV & Tombraider for your answer. This DLC was paid for plain and simple. Todd Howard can try to spin it however he likes but on numerous ocassions he used the word "EXCLUSIVE" DLC not that they were having trouble getting it running and would patch it at a later date. Seriously, you guys are complete tools and ass clowns. I'll have to find the link but I have a quote where one of the Bethesda guys says they won't disclose the terms of their deal with MS for the DLC. They are just trying to put a happy spin on things now so PS3 owners will buy the damn content.
At the E3 Media and Business Summit last week, Bethesda Softworks said it would be bringing Fallout 3 downloadable content exclusively to Xbox 360 and Windows, leaving buyers of the PS3 version out of luck as far as extra content is concerned.
How can they hint that PS3 owners wouldn't buy the DLC themselves over the PSN when they didn't sell it on PSN for Oblivion? We never had a chance to buy it other than with the GOTY edition.

Analyst Colin Sebastian with Lazard Capital Markets told us on Monday that Microsoft and Bethesda likely came to some sort of financial agreement to leave PS3 DLC out of the equation.
"...I think it's a very good possibility that Microsoft and Bethesda were partners in this decision. Obviously Microsoft paid up to secure exclusive online content for GTA IV, and online is a cornerstone for Microsoft's digital media strategy."
But Bethesda won't share details of its decision to bring Fallout 3 DLC only to Microsoft platforms.
"...We aren’t going to get into the details of the hows and whys," said Bethesda marketing boss Pete Hines in an e-mail. "[DLC] will be exclusive for PC and 360. [We're] not going to give any other qualifiers or clarifications as it relates to other platforms."
Fallout 3 is slated for release on Xbox 360, PC and PS3 this fall

Oh joyous day. FInally a reason to replay the game waiting on New Vegas!!!!
copa @ May 19th 2009 10:32AM
Bethesda is supporting the PS3? Man, in this crazy, upside-down world maybe MGS4 on 360 IS possible!
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ May 19th 2009 11:11AM
Now can we get an apology from every PS3 fanboy who called this game shit because they didn't get the content at the same time now that you have it and you probably get a free poster as well?
This game is awesome.
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ May 19th 2009 11:16AM
lol....I called it shit because of the glitches....not because of the DLC...although with that "GOTY" version coming out with all that on there I will most likely be buying it now....
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ May 19th 2009 11:29AM
Glitches? I only encouter 1 mayor glitch in the whole game at release and that was about it,I was one of the lucky persons that completed The Pitt and OP:A without any problem.
Also you should totally apologize fanboys, you big drama queens have been talking shit about Valve and Bethesda too long....Not you Chris D you are okay but actually Oblivion had more glitches than Fallout 3,too bad the patched the useful ones.
Livi70590 @ May 19th 2009 11:29AM
I called it shit because it's not as good as the previous titles.
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ May 19th 2009 11:45AM
Do you honestly believe the game is shit compared to 1 & 2 or is that nostalgia?
The story was longer in the other games but the atmosphere and the detail are still there the only difference now is that we can't kill children because the second you do something remotely cruel in a videogame no matter how distance it is from the real thing some organization comes to b*tch and moan.
wallywallas @ May 19th 2009 12:43PM
Well, i call it shit because i could never leave the vault without the game crashing, and i could never use VATS (although i later found out i couldn't because i had accessories connected to the USB ports... what's up with that?)
Maybe a patch fixed it, but when i played it, i considered it shit.
Orex @ May 19th 2009 12:58PM
i call it shit, cause i played it and didnt like it...Not cause xbox had (now not so exclusive) DLC....
Garrett @ May 19th 2009 1:32PM
I don't see why they wouldn't...Oblivion was supposedly going to be exclusive to Windows and Xbox way back in the day but they brought it to PS3...gotta give Bethesda props since they have been trying to share the love with us whenever they can.
DKiller79 @ May 19th 2009 1:35PM
please insert disc 2 to play mission 2 on MGS4 -75gs point unlocked for insernting disc 2
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ May 19th 2009 2:34PM
My Fallout copy worked just fine except for a glitch in which I couldn't use weapons for about 10 minutes.
It was funny tho'.
Black Mage @ May 19th 2009 4:56PM
I played it on my PS3, and I thought it was shit. Not because of the lack of the DLC but purely because it lacked the scale of Oblivion and the child-killing abilities of the REAL Fallout games.
Doug @ May 19th 2009 6:26PM
I called it shit... no wait, I didn't because this is actually a good fucking game. Sucks that it didn't work for you.
skyzbig @ May 19th 2009 10:33AM
Crazy...Valve will release Left 4 Dead on the PS3 next lol....
Hyams @ May 19th 2009 10:35AM
I really hope so.
NaeemTHM @ May 19th 2009 10:52AM
Yeah but knowing Valve they'll replace all the Zombies with Ewoks and all the guns with potato shooters. OH and there will be no online co-op...nope LAN parties only.
Averna @ May 19th 2009 11:36AM
Wouldn't mind that, but yeah.. I don't see that ever happening.
More likely Gabe would take a crap in a bunch of Left 4 Dead (PS3) cases and ship them.
Andrew Ryan @ May 20th 2009 3:15AM
Then again he's so fat most of his shit is stored in that cocky digestional tract of his :O /barf
icy1007 @ May 20th 2009 7:14AM
Valve doesn't support the PS3. Any L4D going to PS3 will be a crappy port from EA.
Hyams @ May 19th 2009 10:34AM
If the PS3 GOTY version is improved over the origional version (ie. is brought up to standard of the 360 version), I'll definately buy it.
baby sea tuna @ May 19th 2009 10:59AM
I don't know why this was voted down. It seems like a valid enough opinion to me.
Must be the spelling errors...
Hyams @ May 19th 2009 11:05AM
If posts got downvoted for spelling errors, just about every single post on Joystiq would be downvoted.
More likely I've upset either Fallout fanboys for having not played the game, or PS3 fanboys for saying the PS3 version is inferior.
Which is funny, because I've also been downvoted for saying I hope Left4Dead comes to the PS3, suggesting that I've also upset either L4D fanboys or 360 fanboys.
Man, I'm on a roll today.
Lennoko @ May 19th 2009 11:21AM
Why is Hyams Getting downvoted on every post, they seem to be fine. Haha
