ESRB details new Star Wars: Battlefront titles
As it has in the past (accidentally so, we assume), the ESRB has leaked details for upcoming as yet unannounced titles. This time, the ESRB has trickled out details for two games -- both titled Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron -- for the Nintendo DS and PSP, Kotaku reports.
According to product descriptions for each title, the games are presented in third-person and showcases battles throughout the Star Wars universe; in space, on land and in the air. Whether Elite Squadron is related to the Star Wars: Battlefront 3 title (formerly in development at Free Radical) remains to be seen.
Full product descriptions can be found after the break. Joystiq has contacted LucasArts for a comment regarding the listings.
Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron
Platform: PSP | Rating: Teen
Content descriptors: Fantasy Violence
Rating summary: "This is an action game in which players experience different battles from the Star Wars universe. Presented in a third-person perspective, the game allows players to engage in space, land, and air battles or build troops and upgrade armies in a strategy-based mode. Players can use laser guns (i.e., blasters), explosives, and lightsabers to destroy enemy robots (i.e., droids) and humans who often cry out in pain when attacked. During one dramatic cutscene sequence, an unarmed man is sliced by a lightsaber, while another character is shot in the back with a blaster."
Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron
Platform: Nintendo DS | Rating: Everyone 10+
Content descriptors: Fantasy Violence
Rating summary: " Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron is an action adventure game in which players experience different battles from the Star Wars universe. From a third-person perspective, players engage in space battles, 'speeder bike' chases, and top-down battling. The ground battle includes constant laserfire combined with hand-to-hand combat using 'lightsabers.' A depleting health bar and various "yelps" indicate damage inflicted upon certain characters."

Personally, I just want a fuck off awesome Battlefront 3, not more of the handheld stuff.
WhiteShield @ May 20th 2009 8:45PM
i agree with you. renagade squadron, while it was good, would've been much better on a console. and hopefully if they bring it back onto the consoles, then there will be much more content
Black Mage @ May 20th 2009 8:50PM
Why isn't Dracard's comment blue yet?

Battlefront 2, Spider-Man 2 and San Andreas are my all-time favourite games and I still can't live without them. My God, what epic games I could play forever. I wouldn't care if we're on the 20th gaming generation but as long as I have these games I would be a happy man.
P.S. It makes me so sad that they failed hard on the Spider-Man 3 and somewhat on Web of Shadows. Developers lost something right after Spider-Man 2 and I'm waiting on the day a truly epic Spider-Man video game can exceed Spider-Man 2.
Jcarpio @ May 21st 2009 12:25AM
They took the fun out of the spiderman series after spiderman 2. Although my kid and I had a good time with Spider-man: Friend or Foe.
Snowblind @ May 21st 2009 6:06AM
Yeah, I was excited when I saw the headline then immediatly disappointed when I realised it's just more handheld titles. I'm sure they'll at least be decent but they've got to realise that we want a huge, beautiful looking 360/PS3 version.
WhiteShield @ May 20th 2009 8:47PM
wow, thats pretty cool i guess. i enjoyed battlefront 2 more than RS on the psp but hopefully with an entirely new game there will be some upgrades from the previous ones. and while i don't really own a DS, some of that sounds kinda cool. hopefully both iterations of the game will do well so that they would be more inclined to FINALLY bring it back onto the console
PS36Wii Fanboy @ May 20th 2009 8:51PM

d3rr1ck64 @ May 20th 2009 8:52PM
No, we want CONSOLE Battlefront games LucasArts, not this handheld garbage. Why are we so far into this gen without so much as an official trailer for Battlefront 3?
PS36Wii Fanboy @ May 20th 2009 8:55PM
You mean the leaked trailer of epicness Joystiq posted several months ago?
d3rr1ck64 @ May 20th 2009 9:07PM

I agree with you Wayne, I'm ready for Battlefront 3 already. Battlefront 1&2 kicked major ass. I wish they'd just get their shit together and get it done. I'm so tired of waiting!!
Mr Khan @ May 20th 2009 9:18PM
The legend goes that LucasArts commissioned Rebellion to do Battlefront 3, because they quoted lower costs than Free Radical, and that the termination of the project was what put Free Radical under
However, it gets more interesting. Battlefront 3 was commissioned for both PS360 and for Wii and PS2, but the costs that Rebellion quoted for the PS360 versions were too high, so the rumor is that the "next-gen" versions have been canceled completely
Proof for the first half of what i said:

Mr Khan @ May 20th 2009 10:08PM
And here's the source for second half of what i said (still rumor)

Kenny Powers Fastball (PSN johnnynumber5) @ May 20th 2009 11:55PM
As far as I know all home console version were cancelled.
Hypothetically speaking it would take a lot of work to port the 360/PS3 version to the Wii. You have to scale down everything (AI, lighting, characters etc etc) and build motion mechanics that actually work. Then, there are the issues of selling a 3rd party time to the Wii audience. Star Wars is popular enough and established to the point that probably won't have the same issues as other 3rd party wii games.
A singular Wii version would be a sales catastrophe. The battlefront games would be DLC and multiplayer monsters on the PS3 & 360.
samn @ May 20th 2009 9:25PM
oh man, I really really hope that second half of what you said is just rumor... or else I will cry and cry hard. To have waited this long only to not be able to play it on next-gen would just be... unspeakable!!
samn @ May 20th 2009 9:27PM
that was a reply to mr khan sorry lol
Dracard @ May 20th 2009 9:30PM
I'd rather nothing be done until they can afford to do a proper Battlefront 3, not some cheap version they can just slap a 3 on for easy money. But... well, it is Lucasarts...
Darth Pedo @ May 20th 2009 10:29PM
Joystiq.com exclusive! I am an unlockable character!
Ezio Auditore the Assassin (PSN slycooper_rocker) @ May 20th 2009 10:34PM
whats with all the pedobears around here? i got rid of mine, but pedojokerbear showed up right then.
f23ghost @ May 20th 2009 10:37PM
relax all! i'm sure IF bf3 comes out it will be on all platforms. i'd rather play that particular game on pc myself also. i also do agree BF3 only! no sub games.
arrness @ May 20th 2009 11:20PM
yeah when i read the headline i was like YES
and then i read it isn't console.
If they do make it console i think itd be cool if they threw in split screen too
ToRo @ May 21st 2009 12:02AM
I hope they make Battlefront 3 for the 360. Battlefront 2 was a blast. I also hope that the multiplayer doesn't die like most 360 games out there.
TM @ May 21st 2009 1:07AM
When I heard this I was happy since I own a psp. much time has passed to allow them to create a new engine with improved features.
Lekko @ May 21st 2009 1:47AM
I hope the PSP version has splitscreen local co-op.
Orion @ May 21st 2009 8:41AM
NoooOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooo!!!!
Don @ May 21st 2009 4:58PM
This is the best PSP (and DS) news I've heard in a long time! Really happy about this!
Now if only Star Wars Battlefront III was announced for Wii.....
