I'm just curious if those screen shots look particularly good to anyone? I know the Wii doesn't give the best graphics, but couldn't it be done a bit more smooth than those look?

i don't like the way it looks...it reminds me of concept art. they probably went with this style so it wouldn't look like a crappy 360 port, but it looks 'kiddy-fied'

I'm not one of those people who comes out with ridiculous exaggerations about how bad Wii graphics are ('looks like N64', etc).

So this game still looks a hell of a lot better than N64.

But on the other hand, yes you're right - it also still looks kind of shitty. (Especially those trees. Ugh.)

That said, the draw distance is pretty high in that one screenshot above. And actually the cars look great - it's just the backgrounds that are kind of ho-hum.

I believe them that they're doing it on purpose but I don't think they've quite got the visual style to make it look that way! (And I like the simplified character style in the sports games.) Ah well, graphics aren't everything...

I think they're trying to pull a F-Zero where they expect you to be so focused on the road ahead/other cars that you sorta ignore the backgrounds (to be fair, GX looked awesome all around)

Poor Wii. It always gets the Wiikest version of all the game consoles. Couldn't they have ported the grown up version to the Wii or does Nintendo have something against quality titles?

"We wanted to get the core experience down first and then see what we could add to it. Maybe in the second one."

I know developers count from 0, but there was that game called Need for Speed Carbon, so Nitro is the second one for the Wii.

@nikescar: This is a mediocre arcade franchise with metacritic scores in the mid and low 70s. That's not exactly the stuff of quality gaming.

I was afraid it would be a Mario-Kartized NFS.
So far, I think it looks good. Hope to learn more about gameplay

Seems like a cool concept. I may even pick it up if metareview scores it at least an 80.

I just hope it's actually good. Recently, NFS games doesn't appeal to me anymore since the Hot Pursuit series.

NFS is no longer a system seller. The franchise has gone to hell. The whole street racing image for the last 8 years has alienated many fans. Only tweens fall for this garbage!

I think its bad when this Wii title doesn't even look better than the PS2 versions of Need For Speed... I don't know who to blame, EA or Nintendo....

What is up with EA and all the sub-par Need For Speed titles? Even with the Burnout series at their disposal, and they still can't seem to turn out anything nearly as enjoyable as NFS: Hot Pursuit 2. I had high hopes for NFS: Most Wanted way back, but that just turned me off of the series for some time.

Just once, I'd like to see a decent police chase driving game somewhere between GTA4's realism and Wheelman/Burnout's over-the-top action. Something with lots of locations and chase scenarios that would recreate the experience of some of hollywood's greatest car chase scenes. (Bullitt, Gone in 60 seconds, The French Connection, The Italian Job, The Blues Brothers, The Bourne Identity, Mad Max/The Road Warrior, etc...)

Mate, could you stop blaming the system and blame the developers for taking it for granted? It's not the Wii itself making the games you know. It's dev teams at EA who say "Let's throw out some crap for some easy money!"

Actually, I rather like the graphics. When I'm playing a racing game like this, I'm not exactly paying a heck of a lot of attention to details that fly by. And fly this game apparently does, according to the IGN hands-on: the game clocks by in single player at a rock solid 60 FPS. That sounds pretty dang good to me. They also said that it runs still at a rock solid 30 FPS when even in 4 player split-screen. And the new control method both this hands-on and IGN's agree on: its sounds surprisingly fun and fluid. I will wait for more info and some actual in-game footage before I pass judgement but I think its sounding and looking pretty good so far.

Wow...... I can't believe how bad Wii owners are getting raped !!

Oh well I guess that's what you get when you choose to spend your hard earned cash on a toy/novelty instead of a real next-gen system !!

I wonder why Wii racing games never look as good as F-zero on the gamecube. I thought the Wii was supposed to be TWO gamecubes, not 0.9 gamecubes.

Which reminds me, why don't we have a new F-zero game for the Wii yet? thats the kind of game that'd probably look and play great on the Wii. realword settings, not so much...
