That's funny because this whole time i've been thinking Prototype was looking rather bland.

All the jealous 360 owners crying on this forum cracks me up. Just get a PS3 already, it's the best console out there now and has all the best exclusives as well as multiplaforms and Blu-ray movies. I barely touch anything else for games anymore. Ps3 is the best now and its only gonna get better throughout 2009 withall the crazy exclusives announced.

That's a great game, but I think Prototype will be better ^^ Prototype's campaign will be longer ^^ If Prototype doesn't surpass inFamous, I will buy inFamous, but if it surpass inFamous, I will buy Prototype for Xbox 360... Because I have a Xbox 360 and a PS3... and considering the fact that multi-platform games are better on Xbox 360, I will buy Prototype for Xbox 360 ^^ And I MIGHT buy inFamous for my PS3 ^^

And the powers of Alex Mercer (Prototype's protagonist) are going to be way more cooler ^^

I finished inFAMOUS just a couple of days ago. And now that the experience is over for me I must make note of some of the shortcomings of the overall game itself. Don't get me wrong for a brand new intellectual property inFamous is hands down an amazing start. Once you get into it and everything becomes second nature and familiar is when the flaws start to surface.

My #1 complaint: The parkour- For some odd reason Cole can't seem to climb chain link fences which you would think would be a given. Needless to say there are a few missteps in his overall ability to scale anything within Empire city. The collision detection in many of the areas throughout the game become needlessly frustrating because many of the logical elements you would assume Cole can hang onto are not in his realm of climbing ability apparently. Trouble spots are also found in places where simple drops or jumps become frustrating because Cole is programmed to "stick" to the areas and surfaces he was programmed to. For example collecting blast shards and hidden packages while trying to avoid enemy fire becomes annoying when you have to drop from one ledge down to another while still trying to dodge enemy fire. Cole only sticks to the current ledge and regardless of how many times you push the direction for him to fall he simply hangs off the ledge you want to drop or jump from. I died on numerous ocassions because Cole got stuck and I was ambushed while trying to collect shards and dead drops. Also Cole's climbing ability is inconsistent when it comes to jumping and latching onto something from a far distance. Certain jumps from building to building where there are obvious places for Cole to grab onto often don't connect no matter how much momentum you have from the jump point. I can't tell you how many angry swear words came from me while missing a jump I know should have connected Cole to a climbable surface.

Second observation: Cole's powers- Yes Cole's got some pretty awesome powers but most of them are completely useless. The electrical vortex move doesn't do nearly as much as it should even when it's completely powered up. Once you power it up throwing cars still shouldn't seem like a difficult chore but it does. It's effect on groups of enemies is also very limited (again even at the highest level it barely does more than what it started out with which is disappointing) Cole's lightning grenades are a fun weapon but the margin of error when launching them towards enemies tends to be difficult. You literally have to lead your target by at least another character width above (for rooftop enemies) to one or two more character widths either left or right (for ground enemies) for you to hit your mark. There should have been a lock on feature for this. I spent most of the game simply firing off Cole's main weapon which is the lightning bolt. The problem with that is as much as the game touts you being able to charge fences and other metallic objects to shock nearby opponents using those things as cover it almost never works. I've shocked chainlink fences and light poles and cars and the enemies come out unscathed. At some point I think the developer ran out of ideas when they were trying to come up with more ways to use electrical powers. The special downloadable gigawatt blades were also completely useless and I never used them once in the game for actual combat. It would have been cooler if Cole actually fired a continuous electrical stream as you powered up his primary ability but all you get are stronger bolts (which aren't bad but not very exciting)

Observation #3: Side missions: Ok so the sidemissions are a sometimes fun distraction but they're all repetitive. You get very little reward (other than trophies) for clearning side missions. You get 15 main side missions which basically helps move your Karma meter along in the direction you want to take it. Other than experience points you don't get much out of doing the side missions. The extra side missions (aside from the 15 Karma missions) are tedious and sometimes frustrating. You either are requested to clear a building covered in spy cameras (don't know why that's an important element in the story if at all) or you activate satellites or destroy "death vans" that are spread throughout the city. Other than clearing an area of enemies these missions don't provide you with any other useful rewards. They're boring and repetitive.

I know I've probably made these observations a little more serious than they really are. Overall the game is stupendously fun and piecing the story together as you progress is in itself very rewarding and entertaining. I think that Suckerpunch has a lot to work with when a sequel comes into the works. For now I hope that they take into account all the elements that need a bit more polish and make the following installments games to be reckoned with!
