Plants vs. Zombies is PopCap's fastest-selling game
Plants vs. Zombies' sales certainly aren't shambling, as PopCap tells Joystiq that it has been the fastest-selling game in the company's electronic narcotic pharmacy.
PopCap's Garth Chouteau believes this is just the tip of the iceberg for the the flora vs. undead simulator, telling Joystiq, "It's as strategic as any game launched this year ... in it's own humble cutesy sort of way." He believes that players will continue to find incredible depth in the title, especially after they are done with the adventure's story and move into the survival mode. It appears that PopCap is happy with the sales of its latest piece of interactive crack, but it knows it'll only get better as the junkie word-of-mouth increases.

That's awesome. I just wish they stuck to their guns and called it "Lawn of the Dead." That would have made it even more awesome.

Omega2k3 @ May 21st 2009 7:09PM
Srs? It just looks to me like super standard TD.
And I fucking LOVE Popcap. Someone explain to me why this is on par with Peggle, Bejeweled, etc.
Ed @ May 21st 2009 9:28PM
Hey Omega2k3, how about playing the demo before you conjure up an opinion huh?
Matthew @ May 20th 2009 10:08PM
Loving it so far. Although it can be hard to get cash for all the plants in the zen garden.
ArchiGamer @ May 20th 2009 10:13PM
How can anyone doubt the success of a game with cute plants and adorable zombies? This game reeks of win!
mts @ May 20th 2009 10:17PM

ZenGaijin @ May 20th 2009 10:30PM
You know if someone woke me from a coma after about 5 years and I awoke to see people actually liking EA and Popcap making games that "hardcore" gamers enjoy I'd have had a Planet of the Apes style breakdown.

Dr Seus, Dr Seus!
Dr Seus, Dr Seus!
Dr Seus, Dr Seus!

Rentaro @ May 20th 2009 10:43PM
It was also their only game that has a insanely catchy music video. Coincidence?I think not!
Misframed @ May 21st 2009 9:21AM
Yes, that dang song...
Engerz @ May 20th 2009 10:59PM
I can has downloadable content?
But other than that it's super fun. My first Tower Defense game, and Popcap game as well.
mushroomdog @ May 20th 2009 11:03PM
So this is a tower defense game? Might have to check this out.
JerJer @ May 20th 2009 11:08PM
check some youtube footage. it's not a "typical" tower defense but it's definitely tower defense!
Ranelar @ May 20th 2009 11:14PM
People who consider themselves TD fans will probably *like* the game, but ultimately grow bored rather quickly. It was not worth the money for me.
Einhanderkiller @ May 20th 2009 11:20PM
For $10, I'd say it's worth it. The core game is fun, and all the extra minigames they throw in add a lot to the value.
Foetoid @ May 21st 2009 2:00AM
It's $20.
Martin @ May 21st 2009 2:10AM
@Foetoid: check steam.
joeybeast @ May 21st 2009 12:19PM
It's more of a Flower Defense Game
Kenofthedead @ May 22nd 2009 12:09AM
Well I'm a Tower Defense fan, and I'm still playing it well after buying it the day it launched.
It's simple true, but it's fun and offers a lot of depth for it's pick up and play setting.
The only thing it's missing is some sort of two-player Flowers vs Zombies mode.
Or Zombotony (Zombies with plants for heads) vs Zombiseeds (plants with zombie heads).
Oh well, just a fun game for TD fans and those who haven't played any before.
SyChO @ May 20th 2009 11:15PM
I just got it today and played for 5 hours straight... it's that good! (I love TD games)
peepoop @ May 20th 2009 11:59PM
just attended a lecture by one of the guys who worked on this.
Courtney @ May 21st 2009 2:00AM
I downloaded the trial because of this post, and just ran out of time on it. Now I'm really trying to resist the urge to buy it, as I need to go to bed.
Thief @ May 21st 2009 2:01AM
I can vouch that this is one of the most ADDICTIVE games i've played in ages! I can't stop playing it.
Martin @ May 21st 2009 2:12AM
Doing the adventure mode a second time around is even more challenging. I won't spoil why that is.
Jordan @ May 21st 2009 7:06AM
This looks great, will it ever come out on 360 or iPhone?
Jcarpio @ May 21st 2009 8:09AM
PopCap likes money. So i'm sure it'll eventually come out to other platforms.
Odoyle @ May 21st 2009 8:35AM
Sunflower!
J @ May 21st 2009 9:14AM
Michael Jackson zombie FTW!
