Listen, we know you want to freak out after reading that headline, we do too. But let's work through this together, OK? GamerBytes says it spotted Secret of Monkey Island, the first in Ron Gilbert's revered adventure series, listed for Xbox 360 (likely XBLA) on the website of the German USK ratings board. The listing -- which actually called the game a "Special Edition" -- shows Activision as having some involvement, but likely because it handles European publishing duties for LucasArts.
However, the only evidence we have of the game now is GamerBytes' screengrab, as the listing's apparently been pulled. We're hoping against hope it was removed not because the listing was in error, but because it popped up a bit earlier than the companies behind it would have liked. You may now commence the freakout.

This bodes well for a possible release on Steam or the PSN.

Oh man. This would be great. I just hope they do some tweaking to bring it into the new millennium. Graphics tweaks would be nice. A revamped control scheme for consoles would be better. They should get rid of the huge black bar that takes up the bottom of the screen (conveniently making the game widescreen), and implement more contextual controls.
And voice acting? That's probably asking too much...

The magic of Monkey Island is down to the fact that it has no VO.
Adding one would take a huge component away from the game. Just leave the music as it is, and have it running the entire time...I miss the map music!

If by some odd chance they did include voice acting, I hope an on/off toggle is implemented.

I guess I should clarify that I'm hoping for *good* voice acting. They can't half-ass it like most games do.

I think part of the charm IS the wildly outdated graphics and cheesiness, though.

I'm not buying something I already own, even if it means not having to keep a floppy drive and code wheel around.
If it were remade using the CMI SCUMM engine and got all the voice actors back together, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Dominic Armato IS Guybrush.

Sure, if you totally ignore the fact that it's a lot easier to port over a simple PC game to Xbox.

@Marty
I.. doubt it... I mean, that shit was originally developed for PC's and an OS that is wildly different that the 360 architecture of today. Getting it to run on a PC now without an emulation layer like dos-box or scummvm is completely impractical. Plus, to get it to work on 360, you need a complete re-engineering of the control control scheme that fits the 360 controller.

"Not to mention that the 360 and Wii use the same architecture (PPC)."
Umm, yes but then again a Ferrari and a hyundai accent both use combustion based engines. What's your point?
They are on a different magnitude of strength. The more cpu power you have, the easier it is to emulate something at 100% speed usually. Hence why getting the PS2 emulators to run PS2 games at full speed takes at least a 8800 GTS or even a GTX which is far more powerful the ps2 itself. A dos came can be emulated with almost no cpu power but still if any machine is likely to be able to do it, its probably the Xbox 360 more-so than the Wii.

Retro ports on XBLA were 400 points. I'm betting this will be 800,1200 or 80,000 points

Not trying to start anything but can the 360 actually handle this game without freezing or displaying the RROD? I know the PS3 can - it can handle BLU-RAY games and movies but the 360 can't even handle DVD9 games without scratching them and freezing/overheating. I had a 360 and it couldn't handle a downloaded demo without freezing :S

You could have just said, "I prefer not to play on 360, and hope this comes to PSN", instead of making yourself look like a complete asshole.

Damn. You know I'll admit there are certain systems I like more then others, even though I own them all, but if you are ever to this level of bias towards one system I feel really really bad for you.
I mean he seriously thinks, on his freetime, about how the 360 is inferior to the PS3. Time of his life wasted thinking about something that CEO's in charge of the companies don't even worry about as much.
And here I am wasting my time, thinking about him thinking about which is better.
