Listen, we know you want to freak out after reading that headline, we do too. But let's work through this together, OK? GamerBytes says it spotted Secret of Monkey Island, the first in Ron Gilbert's revered adventure series, listed for Xbox 360 (likely XBLA) on the website of the German USK ratings board. The listing -- which actually called the game a "Special Edition" -- shows Activision as having some involvement, but likely because it handles European publishing duties for LucasArts.
However, the only evidence we have of the game now is GamerBytes' screengrab, as the listing's apparently been pulled. We're hoping against hope it was removed not because the listing was in error, but because it popped up a bit earlier than the companies behind it would have liked. You may now commence the freakout.

Doesn't seem like a huge deal to me. Don't get me wrong, I loved Monkey island, up until it left the SCUMM engine and went 3D-ish. But the thing is these games are so widely pirated and played on so many platforms that having them show up on any console is not a huge deal. If you want to play these games at home, it's not difficult to make it happen.
Having them play on a small handheld like a DS or PSP would have a bit more value, because at least there is a small barrier there, as many people don't have a handheld they can play the SCUMM games on (hacked PSP or iPhone comes to mind).

I don't think they'll update the graphics, nor should they.
To be honest, if it's worth paying for again, I'll just go buy some DoubleFine merchandise with the money I would use to buy it again so that the money ends up in Tim Schafer's pocket.

This is awesome, but really I was hoping they would release the old lucas arts adventure games on the DS. Granted I already play them on ScummVM, but they could use some control tweaking. I just foresee a point and click adventure being a bit annoying using an analog stick.

Odd. I thought LucasArts completely forgot about their adventure game heritage.

This news is so awesome if it's true. And this game is so amazing and so classic that if it doesn't become one of the best selling XBLA games, then it's a damn shame. It is everyone's duty to here to make everyone and their mother who hasn't played this game to play it.

I got this game on my gf's Wii (via Scummvm), it was fun for like 20 minutes then I never touched it again. It was great 20 years ago but doesn't really told up much anymore.

Eeeeep! Between this and the Trico video, I'm not going to have any clean pants left.

really, we need ALL of the old Lucasarts point and click games on XBLA/PSN/VC. Grim Fandango, Full Throttle, and LOOM. Why is this not done yet?

re: Saria
They could take a cue from some of the arcade originals and include a 'classic' mode. It shouldn't take too many resources to include the untouched original.
But now I feel like I'm just building myself up for a letdown when they just port ScummVM to the 360 and collect our $$$.

Awesome choice for XBLA, and i'd pay whatever they charged in a second.
I know it's hoping for too much, but how *amazing* would it be if they got Dominic Armato in to create voiceover for the first game and redrew all the graphics? It probably wouldn't take too long, and if they did that i'd pay retail prices.
The storyline and game mechanics still hold up easily, but if they just port the originals it will put off a lot of people who can't tolerate such low res graphics, especially on a big screen TV. Updated graphics could pull in a whole new audience.
I'm salivating at the thought of playing monkey island again and getting achievements for it. If the developers are reading this, please ensure that there is a "That's the second biggest achievement I ever saw" achievement. :)

Dude, they should do all the Monkey Island games. I remember playing the one on the PS2...can't remember the name though...lol then we just need the South Park N64/PSX games and Neverhood and SkullMonkeys and I will be in heaven! Seriously, back in PSX time, Secret of Monkey Island, South Park (FPS game), Chef's Love Shack (The 4 player game), South Park Rally, and Neverhood (Japanese psx release only) were the bomb! SkullMonkeys just needs to be on there just because it is part of the Neverhood series.. :)

He really nailed the artwork, and would shame them up if its a straight remake now!
