This latest developer diary for Alpha Protocol, Obsidian Entertainment's forthcoming secret-agent-'em-up, certainly speaks for itself -- and for the game's dialogue system. Though the primary form of communication is verbal and varies between suave observations and snide retorts, we're most enamored with the delightful "headslam" option. In fact, that's probably going to be the modus operandi for our Jack Bauer impersonator once the game arrives in October.
Ex-KGB agent slow to spill secrets? Headslam. FBI director whining about reckless behavior? Headslam. Old lady giving eye witness account of terrorist activity? Headslam. Old lady with broken nose crying about getting headslammed for no reason? Headslam again.
It all looks kind of stiff to me, not fluid, kind of jerky?
That dialog system reminds me of mass effect, but I really like the addition of a timer to your choices. It's like real life; you can't just stand around thinking in awkward silence once they finish their sentence. you have to just go with your gut and react.
I wasn't exactly hyped for the game till now, but after seeing that video I really look forward to play Alpha Protocol, hope they'll release it bug-free!
I've been excited about this game since its preview in game informer like 2 years ago. Glad to see it's shaping up. It does look like they have some kinks to iron out, so here's hoping they can do that.
I like the timer. I do hope though that they make it so that you can't go back and get all of the info regardless of your approach. I like the idea of being stuck with my split-second decisions.
I will add that the main character is supergeneric, but i suppose that's so you can make him whatever you want. I'm disappointed there is no character face/gender option like in mass effect or oblivion or fallout or kotor, etc. etc.

Forget headslamming. In that opening collage you can see him shooting an unarmed man.

Right: Collected/calm

Is that character voiced by the same guy who did Commander [Joe] Shepherd in Mass effect?
Gripman @ May 25th 2009 3:37PM
I've had enough of your snide insinuations! *headslam*
