Red Faction: Guerrilla PC version delayed, coming 'during this summer'
Though the console-bound versions of THQ's upcoming liberation sim, Red Faction: Guerrilla, will be hitting store shelves in a week and some change, it looks like the PC version of the title will be a little late to the party. We received tips pointing us to a few online retailers who had listed the game's launch date as August 25 -- almost three months later than the drop date for the Xbox 360 and PS3 version of the title.
We contacted THQ to see if the PC version of Guerrilla would really be belated. A representative responded, "Indeed, the RFG PC sku will be a little late," adding that the game would "ship during this summer." Hey! August 25 is technically in this summer! We'll let you know when we hear a firm release date from THQ -- for good measure, we've also contacted Reactor Zero (the folks porting the shooter to PC) to find out what the deal with the hold-up is. Stay tuned!

You guys really need a PC tag or something. On the old layout, you could look right at the tags for any post about a game, and know what systems it was on. Now if it doesn't say in the article, which if most often doesn't, the reader has to follow a bunch of links to find that information.
Neuromancer @ May 21st 2009 3:57PM
Fortunately this one says it right there in the title.

I have a theory that delayed PC ports are to reduce the impact of PC piracy.
Those could have pirated PC games on day one will now have to choose, buy it on console or wait a few months.
Mest @ May 21st 2009 3:37PM
your theory does make sense dude and you are totally right i know for a fact re5 and street fighter 4 on pc day one would have been mass pirated
Crusty Magic @ May 21st 2009 3:48PM
Go to your favorite torrent search engine and see how many 360 games are available for illegal download. The whole argument that piracy mainly happens only on the PC is asinine.
boing.inc @ May 21st 2009 4:13PM
That makes little sense to me.
For one for those who are going to pirate... well they are going to pirate regardless. (if they're not planning to pay, delaying the game isn't magically going to influence them to do so)
So they won't buy, they'll do like all the law abiding PC games players and *wait* till it's released at a later date before they pirate it. This way, everyone gets to wait. Hurrah.
And it's the law abiding gamers who get the raw end of the deal here and pirates couldn't give a damn. (Pirates will probably get it before us anyway)
If anything you could try and argue that it's there to reduce console piracy which is just as abundant as PC piracy.
But at the end of the day it's all about not caring about PC gaming.
Anyone taking bets for a even later release than the date stated above, which will still be buggy, not be tailored towards the platform in any meaningful way and yet will still be full price?
joeybeast @ May 21st 2009 4:26PM
I seriously doubt that console piracy is as rampant as PC piracy.
For one You can't play online. And it's far more complicated.
Consider this, any PC you buy off the shelf is capable of "pirating" games but not consoles.
I totally agree the fact that legit PC gamers are getting screwed.
Then again, so many games are coming out late for the PC platform.
Sure, some are due to exclusive deals, but at least a few of them are delayed deliberately.
I feel like the delay could potentially sway a few "casual pirates" to buy the console version as supposed to waiting 3 months.

@Crusty
Compare how many downloads PC games get versus the console games. You'll see that piracy still affects PC games much more than console games, though the gap has been narrowing for a while.

A theory? Developers have stated that this is the case in many cases. I believe Mirror's Edge was one example
Einhanderkiller @ May 21st 2009 8:35PM
PC games do get pirated more than console games, which I think everybody knows, but the gap is narrowing as more people learn about how easy it is to pirate console games, especially for the Wii and 360. Wii and 360 games have been hitting the top 10 most popular game torrents on ThePirateBay recently.

Is it just me, or does THQ really suck at announcing stuff early enough. Theres what, 2 weeks til launch? I remember they did this with the trophies for Saints Row 2 on PS3, told us all along that we'd get them and a couple weeks before release they come out and say that we won't be getting them.
RyGy @ May 21st 2009 3:40PM
The single player demo was pretty good, I'll give this a whirl.
Neuromancer @ May 21st 2009 3:58PM
PC gamers, I feel your loss. May the hot dusty wind of Mars reach you sometime this summer, without further delay.
Brian @ May 21st 2009 5:24PM
this really is a game that would be great for mods but il be getting on 360
maybe when its cheap on pc il pick it up there too if cool stuff gets made
Cosmo @ May 21st 2009 5:25PM
Damn, come on we gotta get the PC releases of console games as soon as possible from the console release! : (
Juggs @ May 21st 2009 6:34PM
It wasnt really delayed, the pc version was always going to come after the console version because its being ported by a different company. Volition is only focused on the 360 and PS3 versions.
shawnyd @ May 21st 2009 7:22PM
well, that really sux hard. Oh well. I played both RF1 and 2 on PC, still planning on playing RF3 on my laptop.

i want some more info on this , and it could just be as simple as they had to think about weather to start on a pc version in the first place , and took them a few mounths to figger out that they wanted to do it , or maybe they didn;t even start porting till they had gone gold on the console ver , alot of resons why really with out even needing to start talking about conspiriacys , oh and i would rather they worked froma gold release as a posd to grabing a beta and useing that couse that is just retarded it makes a lot of sense that that they wouldn;t start porting it till they had a gold ver on consoles , and buy then they couldn;t hold back shiping the console ver couse lets face it everyone wants to get payed , any way enuf of a rant from me MORE INFO PLEASE
marc @ Jun 26th 2009 5:37AM
it said on play.com it would be released today ! i was so excited so i read it again yesterday and it still said 26th :D then today 1 hour ago i looked and saw it was delayed to the 31st. august.................................
About the piracy thing...i dont usely download via torrent but for some games everyone talks about and says its good and i dont find it good, i will torrent it to see what its like, and if its good i will buy it. Not torrenting red faction, its a to good of a game. But now adays when i torrent a game i always get "XBOX 360 ONLY" which pees me off....so its not just pc games, i was reading a forum where people actually gettingt there xbox 360s chipped so they can get the illegal games cheaper..your telling me its only pc? i think releasing the games on xbox is just as bad for piracy than releasing for pc.. Dont know about the PS3 game cracking, Iv seen a few torrents with PS3 games but there reviews say they all dont work.
