I was actually discussing this with a clerk at the MegaMediaXchange out here in MD. I was buying a replacement DC from him and he happened to have one in a box. I figured it to be used, just traded in WITH the box. Upon further inspection though, everything in the box was still wrapped in plastic with original wire tires and demo disc. It had never been played! It cost me $29.99. Win.

Yeah, I've been playing Marvel vs. Capcom 2 on it the last couple days since the PS3 demo was such a huge letdown.

Sorry to disappoint. But I love this website too damn much to leave just because someone on here couldn't take a joke.

@Storm Eagle how was the PS3 demo a huge let down? It seems like it's going to be a perfect version of the arcade classic when its done. I'm not disappointed with only 6 characters being in the demo, its just a damn demo. It's a cool game.

@phinnvr6 The demo requires you to have 2 PS3 controllers linked up and only allows you to play 1 on 1 local matches. So if you don't have another person to play against, it's just practice mode against a dummy that doesn't move. I have no doubt that when they release the full version it will be great to finally get to play it online with the new graphics and all. They just did all the wrong things with the demo.

"One of ThinkGeek's customers complained to Destructoid yesterday, saying that their console (advertised as new-in-box) had fairly obvious signs of wear and tear."

Hmm, funny. When I complain to a company I usually go to the company, not a blog.

He also sent an email to ThinkGeek, but for some reason it never showed up in ThinkGeek's inbox.

He then contacted them on Twitter, and the issue was resolved there and he got a refund.

These people should count there lucky stars their getting a Dreamcast period. Old or new.

I'm going to purchase a Dreamcast on 9/9/09 and put a giant 2 on the box. Then cry myself to sleep to dream of an alternate reality filled with people that realized the brilliance of the DC.

I think some of you are more excited now than when the DC was new.

Despite having moved to console gaming lately (360 and PS3) I still think that Windows PC is a better gaming platform for pre-current-gen (the cost of video cards and the hassle has gotten to me lately with Windows gaming - all the damned copy protection and the lack of time to sort out driver issues...).

I guess what I'm really saying is I never "got" the Dreamcast (or the PSX or any of the earlier-gen consoles). Meh.

I had been a PC gamer for a long ass time and then a few years ago I got fed up and began console gaming more. However, I have been buying consoles and their games for a long time even though not using them as much as the PC. When the DC came out I thought it was amazing and it made me really think that consoles may be the way to go in gaming, especially with the modem, however it just didn't pull through. These days I'm finding that I miss that console and so I ran out and got another one to build a new library for.

Even though you may not have got it then, doesn't mean you can't get it now. It was a great machine that died too young.

Looks like Thinkgeek has a little disclaimer on their site now....
If my Dreamcast were to ever break, I hope these are still available for replacments.
Oh heck, I'll get one anyway. =)

Amazon has them used for around $30. I just went and browsed new DC games today and ran across "The Ring: Terror's Realm" which I had seen when it released, but since I hadn't seen "Ringu" and the remake hadn't been released, I wasn't all that interested. I was able to order a new copy for about $15. I'm not expecting much, but I need to see what they did with this story in a game world. I still have a few DC games I want to pick up that I owned and got rid of, but I'll get back my whole collection eventually... and then some!

Very classy of ThinkGeek.

As a frequent consumer of their wares I've experienced only top notch service from them.

I bought a Dreamcast off of Ebay, but the plastic is all yellowish, I guess it was owned by smokers. Rather disappointed.

Happened to my SNES as well. One remained the same color while another I owned turned yellow. It's something to do with the plastic being exposed to sunlight

SEGA-Parts and GameQuest have been selling brand new Dreamcasts for years, so why all of a sudden is everyone going bananas over ThinkGeek's decision to stock them?
