Upcoming Famitsu to cover new Metal Gear game for PlayStation system

Unsurprisingly, there's a brand new Metal Gear game coming out. No, Kojima Production's countdown isn't over yet (that's later today!). A listing at a Japanese 7-Eleven product database reveals that an upcoming issue of Famitsu PSP+PS3 will feature a brand new Metal Gear game. The magazine is scheduled to ship next week on May 30.

We're pretty certain the upcoming Kojima Productions reveal is somehow tied to this upcoming Famitsu story. Considering the game will be featured in a PlayStation-exclusive magazine makes it a pretty safe bet that the game will arrive on either PS3 or PSP. Perhaps handheld players will get a chance at a new Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops experience -- Konami indicated its interest in a sequel over two years ago.

Oh god, I can see the internet burning in XBOX-Fanboy rage if this is true.

Doesn't mean it's exclusive - only that it's coming to the PS3. Could well be multiplatform.

And if it *is* a console version, I do expect it to be multiplat. I admit I'd rather it be exclusive - not for any fanboi reason, but because exclusives tend to be of higher (graphical) quality than multiplats.

Still, either way, as a massive MGS fanboy, I'm really hoping for MGS5. Don't want it to be Portable Ops 2 though, because the controls for that game killed it. One analogue stick FTL.

It makes sense to focus on Sony platforms though given that a significant chunk of PS3 owners bought a PS3 for MGS4, meaning they're more likely to buy MGS5 (if that's what it is) .

I don't think many people bought a 360 with the intention of playing any MGS games.

well it is almost certain that XBOX360 will not get this.

AC!D has a special place in my heart...the first PSP game that I owned. AC!D needs some more love!

I would rather it be an exclusive, only because of the fact that multi-platform means longgggggggggggg development time. See U.S. release of FFXIII.

It's gotta be at least a timed exclusive, or else I'd think it would be announced on the normal Famitsu.

Metal Gear + 5 = Metal Gear 5, which makes perfect sense since the last one was Metal Gear 4. No Portable Ops, sorry PSP fans.

I think we all know Kojima doesnt exactly make a lot of sense, anyone remember metal gear duck hunt?
How everyone thought it was mgs4 360, but it turned out to be an iphone game.

But without Solid Snake, where does the "Solid" in Metal Gear Solid 5 come from?

If this game is MGS5, I will wish it was named Metal Gear... something else. The "Solid" franchise belongs to Solid Snake, and there's no way he's going to be the main character of this game.

You're right, there is no way he would be the protagonist of any future Metal Gear game.

Sorta the way that there was "no way" he was going to direct ANY Metal Gear game after MGS2.

So, uh, you know. He does have a history of backtracking on certain pronouncements. Nonetheless, this will be a game featuring Raiden, now that he's be rehabilitated with the fan base.

Solid Snake isn't in Metal Gear Solid 3, and was only a secondary character in Metal Gear Solid 2.

I just wanted some AC!D, personally.

Then you should complain about all the Resident Evils that came out after the first one. In two you were in a city. In three you were in a city again. In four you were in a Spanish village. Close but no cigar. And Five you were in an Afrikan Village. No residential areas to speak of.

MGS2 and 3 didn't feature Solid Snake as the main character, true, but I still think the Solid franchise should belong to him.

Not "everyone" thought MGS Touch was for the 360. In fact, the only ones who thought that were hopeful 360 owners. Go read the comments in that thread again and you will see many people actually saying it would be a MGS game for the iPhone.

By the way ... MGS Touch (duck hunt lol) is actually a really fun game.

There are other possible readings to that 5, you know. After all, there are 5 countdowns.

Never forget, Kojima is one hell of a teaser, it could be something completely different.

The 5 probably means the 5 discs needed to bring MGS4 to the 360

Or 5 separate mandatory installs that each take 100x longer than changing a disc to play the PS3 version ;)

I also dont understand how its been 3 years of crying for MGS4 to go multiplatform. If you want it just get a PS3. This "gamers" you speak about arent really gamers if they cry for a game but refuse to buy the console it plays on.

I don't understand why'd you rejoice. The Metal Gear series is amazing, so why would you want it to be limited to who only those that own a Play Station? Because of some sutpid brand loyalty, and to see those with similar stupid brand loyalty piss their pants?

Considering we're in a recession right now, I'd imagine most people can't afford to shell out for a new videogame system so "just buy a ps3" is a lame excuse to tell people who want to play it, but can't.

Ummm its not a Lame Excuse...I wanted to Play Gears 2....I didnt Bitch because Epic didnt make it Multi-platform....I simply bought a 360 Elite and then the game....doing EXACTLY what you just said people dont want to do...

Yeah, well it's not my fault my bought a console for just one game.

It would be great if Gears got ported to PS3 because more people would be able to play it, just like MGS4 being ported to the Xbox 360 would be great because more people would get to play it. I don't get all why you guys would want these excellent 3rd party games exclusive to a console (since not only would it benefit everyone that doesn't own those respective systems, it would certainly help the devs more that made the game).

But yes, keep tooting the anti-port nonsense.

Actually, Cap'n Planet, I hear "Uncharted" is pretty good. Plus God of War 3, going out on a limb here, probably won't suck.

Plus you can play all of the cross-platform stuff on the PS3 when your 360 gets sent back to MS to be fixed for the 2nd or 3rd time.

Still, no Mass Effect, no Gears of War, no Viva Pinata... I agree that exclusives suck.
