Watchmen: The End is Nigh coming to retail disc
Both chapters of downloadable title Watchmen: Please Make it End The End is Nigh will be available on a retail disc around the time the movie makes its way to DVD/Blu-ray on July 21. 1UP confirmed the information with Deadline Games director Søren Lund at the Nordic Game Conference yesterday. A press release with the full details should be made available today.
Reviews for the The End is Nigh weren't exactly glowing (a la blue dongs), but perhaps having the two Nigh episodes together on one disc will reveal the undiscovered brilliance of the simplistic beat-em-up.

Good that means I can GameFly it and send it back....
NaeemTHM @ May 21st 2009 10:08AM
You know I'm as big a gamer as the next guy, but I never could get into Gamefly. Call me a fool, but I like owning a physical copy of my games. I put them on my shelf so all can view my glorious collection!
Might be worth it to get a subscription just so I can play games I don't care to own however.
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ May 21st 2009 10:13AM
oh so do I. But without the money to BUY all those games I come out better renting. Not to mention a LOT of my games I have gotten from Gamefly thru "Keep It" and saved like $20 or more getting the original case and manual. Hell when I'm running low on Money I pull this little number. Have a few openings for games are going to be sent and have them send out a BRAND NEW Just released game. Wait a Few days and use the "Keep It" feature, and I get a BRAND NEW GAME for damn near $15-20 less than the In store price because they consider it a "used game" but Since they sent me the game on RELEASE day, I'm the first person to play it so it ACTUALLY brand new.....lol
AsherR @ May 21st 2009 10:30AM
I did the exact same thing with RE5. Haha.
NaeemTHM @ May 21st 2009 10:39AM
Whoa! This "Keep It" function sounds brilliant! I think I will subscribe to Gamefly now. Thanks for the heads up.
Neuromancer @ May 21st 2009 11:02AM
My problem with Gamefly is just that when I have a game out, I feel compelled to play it because I know the clock is ticking and I'm losing money. So I end up playing that game more than one I'd probably rather be playing. Also I never seemed to get new releases very quickly.
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ May 21st 2009 11:45AM
Neuro as long as you have an open space in your mail outs you SHOULD have no problem getting a new release....
MrB @ May 21st 2009 12:25PM
Exactly, you have to mail games back early and sit and wait, thus loosing money. You can't even get a 3 month old game without waiting for a week anymore. All their money went to advertising for a customer base that they cannot support. They have been terrible for a while now. I have used them since 03, and I am about to cancel.
Buy a game they day it comes out rather than wait for a shipment, keep it because you like it, or flip it quick on ebay, with a high shipping fee. Works every time, and you get the games you want right when they release.
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ May 21st 2009 12:59PM
wasting money??? how so?? you are going to send the game back anyways....
I send a game back 4 days before the new release I want comes out and I get it....
Hell I have YET to see a 3month old game still be on low in stock....maybe medium...but not low....I have wolverine on the way now as a matter of fact....
AND I just got a $10 coupon so I get to "Keep" Street Fighter 4 for only $30!!!
hunter2223 @ May 21st 2009 9:39AM
I'm gonna buy it used so I can make sure the developers get no money from me.
drdre74 @ May 21st 2009 9:44AM
hahahaha man this game was trash.
Storm Eagle @ May 21st 2009 9:44AM
LOL. "Watchmen: Please Make It End" - Brilliant.
Neuromancer @ May 21st 2009 11:07AM
Einstein was brilliant. Your threshold for brilliant is fairly low.
Crash @ May 21st 2009 9:50AM
And what's the release date for the 2nd downloadable episode?
Rocketboy @ May 21st 2009 9:56AM
If it's both episodes at a good price, I'll pick it up. I like classic beat-em ups.
Rule #1 to a bad review - make it a beat-em up.
You know it's true.
Neuromancer @ May 21st 2009 11:03AM
I thought it was OK, don't know why so many people were up in arms over it. Also, for an XBLA game the graphics were excellent.
sully @ May 21st 2009 10:15AM
I'd grab it for cheap. It was fairly amusing.
Nikonov @ May 21st 2009 10:18AM
I might give half a crap if it had online multiplayer. That way I could play with one of the 3 other people with any interest in it.
mza49311 @ May 21st 2009 10:21AM
Just another way to make more money, I don't believe it's worth it.
Neuromancer @ May 21st 2009 11:04AM
God forbid a company tries to make money. What's next?
Access Granted @ May 21st 2009 10:23AM
Why put it on a disk if it did so horrible as a download?
Neuromancer @ May 21st 2009 11:04AM
It probably sold OK even though it got bad reviews. Trust me if they thought they were going to lose money on it they wouldn't be doing it.
cuteSAVAGE @ May 21st 2009 10:24AM
Two episodes? I thought this was a first of its kind, long-form downloadable episodic game?
dark_inchworm (on Steam!) dark inchworm (on XBL!) @ May 21st 2009 10:49AM
I think Telltale has practically monopolized the successful episodic market.
Neuromancer @ May 21st 2009 11:05AM
I think there were originally supposed to be 3 episodes but who knows now.
cylet @ May 21st 2009 10:49AM
i had a lot of fun with it, except not enough for the 20 dollar price..... if its not reasonable, i'm just going to pretend it doesnt exist (or co-exist)
Neuromancer @ May 21st 2009 11:06AM
"Reviews for the The End is Nigh weren't exactly glowing (a la blue dongs)"
Really going for the low hanging fruit there (so to speak)
Neuromancer @ May 21st 2009 1:44PM
Oh come on
Dafrety @ May 21st 2009 11:50AM
So will we see this in an orange box or a green one?
twisted poke @ May 21st 2009 11:52AM
Got a code for this to download for $10. I didn't think the game was bad at all. A friend and I had a real fun time with it playing coop. The game probably isn't worth twenty bucks but it wasn't as bad as some people would lead you to believe
ChiTownRuler23 @ May 21st 2009 12:36PM
what a waste of dvd and blu ray space
WREturns @ May 21st 2009 12:50PM
I'm going to one up your comment by posting the following link:

Now THAT'S a waste of space!
ziggen @ May 21st 2009 1:03PM
NO NO.... here's a waste of space http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118589/
Professor Lario @ May 21st 2009 2:21PM
It will be terrible and will outsell some of the best games this year. : (
Kola @ May 21st 2009 2:55PM
"While the Xbox 360 is getting Watchmen: The End is Nigh Parts 1 and 2 as a standalone retail release, the PlayStation 3 is getting a much more enticing release. The two-disc set combines the director's cut of the Watchmen film with both parts of the downloadable game, with exclusive artwork thrown in for good measure. The director's cut of the movie contains 25 minutes of footage not seen in theaters, but still no giant squid.
The releases will coincide with standard DVD release on July 21st, with The End is Nigh Part 2 also available as a standalone download on Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network." - for some odd reason this version of the news release seemed alot better.
sleepydumbdude @ May 21st 2009 6:41PM
I look forward to purchasing it for 4.99 used at gamestop unless I can find it used at a place with rent 1 get 1.
