All three Metroid Prime games rolled up into Metroid Prime Trilogy for Wii

Metroid Prime 1 and 2 will be enhanced with a widescreen mode and the pointer-based Wii controls from the Japanese re-releases. Metroid Prime 3 won't be, because it was already a Wii game and already has them. The collection will feature a "new unlockables system" that allows access to bonus artwork and other rewards based on accomplishments in all three games -- Corruption's "token" system applied to the whole series.
Trilogy will be out in North America on August 24 for $50.

Wow. Good deal.
Phil Fauble @ May 22nd 2009 1:02PM
I played Prime 1 and 3... never got to play 2. I saw it played a lot. So this is giving me a reason to buy it! I didn't finish 1 and I haven't finished 3 yet.... so maybe I could buy them all and play them straight through!
ALL I CAN THINK TO SAY IS
I AGREE WITH YOU
IT'S A GRAND DEAL!
OH AND
YAYYYY!
FNG @ May 22nd 2009 1:34PM
A great deal indeed. Time to dust off thee old wii sports player...
Nintendo, please do more upgrading of old games that are loved, so I may love you once again...
Alex Sohn @ May 22nd 2009 1:41PM
Agreed, I only played the first one, and now I can get all three for 50 bucks, this is a a very good deal and nice to have everything on one disc. A must have for video gamers everywhere.
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ May 22nd 2009 1:42PM
I always wanted to play Metroid Prime 3 but it never got a price cut and Wii games are expensive here but for the 3 I guess 90$ isn't all that bad(only No more heroes was relesed here with a 40$ tag).
MaRRODkez @ May 22nd 2009 1:54PM
There's little I dislike more than someone making an asinine 'dust on the wii' comment.
IGLAW @ May 22nd 2009 2:30PM
Mine's growing moss.
DBuck_Eye @ May 22nd 2009 3:15PM
Is anything else in your house growing moss? I'm pretty sure most indoor stuff doesn't do that...
Raffi @ May 22nd 2009 7:24PM
No moss indoors? Apparently you've never lived in a college dorm.
blunted666 @ May 23rd 2009 9:36AM
i only fuck with the indoor stuff
dark_inchworm (on Steam!) dark inchworm (on XBL!) @ May 22nd 2009 12:49PM
Kotaku also had this to say:
"They've added bloom lighting to all three games. Doors open faster. Loading times are faster. Samus can now do that ball-form jump where she drops a bomb and – with a well-timed Wii Remote flick – get extra air when it goes off in all three games. It might not seem like any one of these things really matters, but altogether, the tweaks go a long way toward making the games feel good and play well."
umm....hello??? @ May 22nd 2009 2:00PM
load times weren't bad on the GC, but that's good to note. I am definitely getting this when it comes out--I played 1, but never got around to 2 or 3.
Arrowned @ May 22nd 2009 2:45PM
"load times weren't bad on the GC"
Yeah, they were never any worse than maybe 20 seconds if you rushed to a door to a big area. I think people are magnifying the elevator crash problem above actual loading times.
Said crash made me lose hours of progress on more than one occasion though, so I'll be glad to see that gone.
iofthestorm @ May 22nd 2009 5:27PM
Pretty awesome, I only played through Metroid Prime and about a third of the way through Echoes, this is perfect for me.
Grey Acumen @ May 23rd 2009 1:32PM
Y'know, usually, I'm supportive of Nintendo, but this actually pisses me off. $50? I already BOUGHT the 3rd game, it already has Wii controls, it's already ON THE WII. Why in the HELL do I need to buy this game over again? They could have just released 1 & 2 on a single disc and it would have been perfectly fine.
Deozaan @ May 23rd 2009 4:00PM
@ Grey Acumen:
What? Are you insane? I already own all three games (in fact, somehow I ended up with two copies of Echoes) but I'd be happy to pay $50 for upgraded versions of Prime 1 & 2, plus a free copy of Prime 3 all on one disc. If I ever want to play a Metroid Prime game, I won't have to change the disc!
@ Nobody in particular:
Now if they'd only include Metroid, Return of Samus, Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion, Zero Mission, and Metroid Prime Hunters on the disc as well. I'd love an Ultimate Metroid Compilation disc!
I'm not sure how they'd do Prime Hunters on the Wii, but we've seen it can be done as shown by Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time.
tmacairjordan87 @ May 22nd 2009 12:51PM
Nintendo rehashing old games instead of coming up with new worthwhile IPs? I'm shocked........shocked I tells ya.
NaeemTHM @ May 22nd 2009 12:55PM
Hey I'm not the biggest fan of Nintendo double dipping, but this is no different form "Xbox Originals", PSN PS1 downloads, or every Square-Enix game put out in the last 5 years.
Fernando Rocker @ May 22nd 2009 12:55PM
These games were previously announced since las year...
But now is even better... Metroid Prime 3 is still $50, and they are basically going to sell you the same Metroid Prime 3 at the same price, but with Metroid Prime 1 and 2 in the package.
It is actually a way better deal than the New Play Control games: it would have been $30 for each game. Now you are paying $16 for each one.
tmacairjordan87 @ May 22nd 2009 12:57PM
"but this is no different form "Xbox Originals", PSN PS1 downloads"
$15 and $6 versus $50?
Fernando Rocker @ May 22nd 2009 12:59PM
Is $50 for all the three games...
And all the three games are top notch.
NaeemTHM @ May 22nd 2009 1:01PM
"$15 and $6 versus $50?"
What Rocker said; you're getting 3 fantastic games for 50 bucks. Pretty good deal if you ask me.
tmacairjordan87 @ May 22nd 2009 1:02PM
We're not debating quality, we're debating why Nintendo is competing with Square-Enix in the rehash department. Now, Square is struggling money wise so they have somewhat of an excuse but Nintendo surely isn't struggling in the bank department.
They've really become such a sad company to watch this generation.
Mr Khan @ May 22nd 2009 1:02PM
They can do both. Who says they can't? Retro Studios is supposedly working on new IPs as we speak
Fernando Rocker @ May 22nd 2009 1:05PM
tmac
But why are you acting like if this is new?
The New Play Control games were announced since last year... there are tons of people who didn't play those games in the Gamecube era, and this is a perfect oportunity to play some of those games. Like me: I never played Chibi-Robo and I want to buy the new version.
Besides, these New Play Control games are just a part of what Nintendo is doing. At least wait until E3 to see what Nintendo is going to announce.
tmacairjordan87 @ May 22nd 2009 1:05PM
Who says they can't do both? History maybe. The last "core" new IP they made was Pikmin almost 10 years ago.
guek @ May 22nd 2009 1:11PM
you really are an absolute idiot with a petty grudge.
you not liking something =/= other people wont enjoy it
your trolling =/= the sane voice of reason
think about this for one second and maybe you'd understand why this is a fantastic deal. With a new control scheme (that many people really enjoyed, not that you'd ever give two shits about what the blind nintendo faboys enjoy, right?) on each old game, plus some achievement-esque content that was also present in metroid prime 3, not to mention added widescreen support that wasn't previously present, the two updated games are easily worth $15 each. Ironically enough, that's the exact price you cited for XB originals, wasn't it? And those are games that are straightforward emulated ports with no upgrades.
THINK for a second.
Metroid Prime 3, an absolutely fantastic game in its own right, is a steal at $20.
$50 is an incredible price for all three games, especially if two of them have been tweeked. The original Metroid Prime alone is one of the best games to come out in the last ten years (and that's a critical consensus). Seriously. Wake up, you tard.
dark_inchworm (on Steam!) dark inchworm (on XBL!) @ May 22nd 2009 1:11PM
E-VE-RY-BO-DY is rehashing old releases. It's been proven time and time again that there's a hell of a market for it, too, whether the games are 5 years old or 20 years old. So why are we picking on Nintendo, then?
While I don't plan on repurchasing games I love over and over again, I condone the practice as long as someone's still releasing top-quality original titles (which, granted, Nintendo needs to pick up on and hopefully will soon). Classic movies and albums stay on store shelves for years, decades even. Without ports to newer platforms, great games disappear from the market after their original systems die off.
ArchiGamer @ May 22nd 2009 1:11PM
Am I the only one that notices the irony of tmac's avatar and his comments?
tmacairjordan87 @ May 22nd 2009 1:15PM
....it's joystiq's default avatar. I'm not going to waste a second of my time bothering to change it, there's no point.
samfish @ May 22nd 2009 1:19PM
tmac is trolling ANOTHER Nintendo topic and adding absolutely nothing to the discussion? I'm shocked, shocked I tells ya.
tmacairjordan87 @ May 22nd 2009 1:25PM
Man Samfish, you came out of hiding just to say something so un-original that I predicted it would be the first reply? Don't tell me it took you that long to twist my words in a sarcastic way.
I'm also not surprised at everyone getting excited to play rehashes of old games. If there's 1 word to describe pretty much everything and everyone involved in this industry this gen, it's predictable.
sonicspike41 @ May 22nd 2009 1:30PM
If there was one word to describe tmac this generation, it would be:
http://i44.tinypic.com/10f9rhh.jpg
NoughtSoClever @ May 22nd 2009 1:31PM
God damn. To all of you pissed about rehashes, quit your complaining and just don't buy them. You act like there is no market for this stuff and we are being tricked into giving them our money. Some people haven't played the first two. Some people would like to play the games with motion controls. Hell, so what if someone just want to give their money to Nintendo. Why do you care how other people choose to spend their money? I don't like sports games but you don't hear me crying about Madden 2020 which really amounts to the same thing as these rehashes, the same game with a few extras.
tmacairjordan87 @ May 22nd 2009 1:32PM
I would be butthurt if my consoles followed Nintendo's path, but as we've seen this gen they both are vastly superior in every way and continue to pump out AAA epic quality games. You'll have to come back next gen to see if I'll be butthurt.
Dreganfyre @ May 22nd 2009 1:45PM
What NoughtSoClever said. I've been holding off getting ANY of the Prime games so that I could play Prime 1 and 2 with motion controls, first. And now, here they come and put all 3 on one disk! Now I can pay $50 for all 3 instead of $110 :)
Allow me to say "yay!"
ArchiGamer @ May 22nd 2009 1:54PM
"I'm also not surprised at everyone getting excited to play rehashes of old games. If there's 1 word to describe pretty much everything and everyone involved in this industry this gen, it's predictable."
And, what, you aren't predictable too?
MaRRODkez @ May 22nd 2009 2:05PM
The fact you don't realize how remarkably similar you are to sprinkles is hilarious.
Jack Spicer @ May 22nd 2009 2:37PM
Im pissed cause Big N fanboys bitch the PSP is nothing but PS2 ports and they get excited when Super Mario 64 comes out on DS and Metriod Prime on Wii. PS all the way!
Besides, PS is the one console that didnt have its games die with the system, suck on that!
MariusElijah (Only on PlayStation 3) @ May 22nd 2009 2:46PM
why are you people defending Nintendo. cuz you have nothing to play on your Wii and this is the best your getting? oh i see
slycooper_rocker (PSN SniperChameleon) @ May 22nd 2009 2:51PM
tmac =/= sprinkles. tmac at least tried to get into wii gaming and wanted to give it a chance. sprinkles got a ps3 from his grandmother for christmas and immediately turned around and sold it on ebay. that's not exactly similar.
MaRRODkez @ May 22nd 2009 2:58PM
I know you look up to the guy for whatever reason, Sly, but the following are facts:
They're both ridiculous trolls.
They both on occasion say something rational or sensible but revert right back to being trolls.
They don't understand why no one takes them seriously.
They act like they're right about everything, and are completely without fault.
Cody @ May 22nd 2009 3:20PM
smh.... Good god, tmac. You are so blatent it's almost as if you are being facetious.
I was going to reply myself, but after reading through the barrage of replies before mine, I don't think there's much else to say.
Cesaria (seh-sare-ee-ah) @ May 22nd 2009 3:58PM
tmac rehashing old comments? I'm shocked.
Roto13 @ May 22nd 2009 4:40PM
"Im pissed cause Big N fanboys bitch the PSP is nothing but PS2 ports and they get excited when Super Mario 64 comes out on DS and Metriod Prime on Wii. PS all the way!"
That's because for a time, the PSP was almost exclusively a port machine. The Wii, while it has too many PS2 ports, also has lots of original games.
Anyone who still pretends that there aren't plenty of original games on the PSP is an idiot, though. That stopped being true ages ago.
And tmac sucks, but everyone knows that already.
slycooper_rocker (PSN SniperChameleon) @ May 22nd 2009 5:22PM
markez, how do i look up to him? i'm just pointing out that there is a big difference in between the two. i'm not saying that tmac isn't a total and complete wii troll, because he is one.
slycooper_rocker (PSN SniperChameleon) @ May 22nd 2009 5:55PM
and if you want to get really technical, now i'm Sni not Sly... but i like Sly better so whatever.
mr mobius @ May 22nd 2009 6:50PM
If it wasn't for this, then I'd have missed out on Okami and a few early Final Fantasies which are great (turn based RPGs are good).
Tell me what really is different about Burnout Paradise compared to the earlier burnouts? Admit it, that is no different than Nintendo making many Mario games.
I've got Metroid Prime 2 but because I disliked using control stick controls (same applies to the Xbox360, so it isn't fault of Gamecube controller) I barely got any way through it, and I'd like to play it as seems a good game, so hopefully they'll do this in the UK as well. If not, guess I'll just have to get Metroid Prime 1, 2 or 3 on Amazon and accept that it'll not be as cheap.
tmacairjordan87 @ May 22nd 2009 6:56PM
"Tell me what really is different about Burnout Paradise compared to the earlier burnouts?"
That whole open world thing makes it just a LITTLE different than the other burnouts. Oh and I don't remember the other burnouts getting free DLC. Also don't remember the robust online mode being in the ps2 burnouts.
esposch @ May 22nd 2009 7:15PM
The reason this is $50 unlike the XBOX originals that are $15 is because it contains 2 GameCube ports and a Wii game that's still being sold today. It's also retail which adds a bit of value to it. So yeah, it's basically $20 each for the GameCube ones and $40 for Prime 3. This is just like the Orange box and I don't remember anyone bitching and whining when that came out.
And while I do believe they should be making more new games than rehashes, this probably won't take a huge amount of development time or costs.
@ Jack and Marius
We're defending this because it's Nintendo's answer to the Orange Box. Also Jack if you'd only said your first sentence and maybe re-worded it a bit you would have got your point across. While I admit the Wii is port central, the PSP's direct competition is the NIntendo DS, and that has triple the number of fun and innovative games as the PSP (which is also port central). That being said, I really want Loco Roco and Patapon, but definitely wouldn't give up Ouendan and TWEWY to play them.
Finally Marius, Wii and PS3 software sales are about the same, even though Wii has as much piracy as the PS2. And think about it: if they released all of the Metal Gear Solid games on one disc for $50, would you be excited?
