Guess they better ban blank CD's and DVD's. And iPods.

No no no you're missing the point here.

With blank CD's you copy your pirated music.. and blank DVD's your mov...

Oh wait.

I love your comment because the sarcasm is so obvious.

Just like these flash carts there are some positive legal things you can do with them.

I can backup my data onto CD's and DVD's. You can put legally purchased music onto your iPod or other MP3 players... but no one does. And you can play all of those wonderful homebrew games that have been developed with these flash carts.

Yeah, it's a rough time economically. Nintendo has just been barely scraping by recently.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

I'm sure R4 is loving the free advertising they are receiving. What's really funny is that if you search on amazon for the device, the keyword search brings up places you can buy the device off of Amazon. I wasn't even aware of this device, but I just bought one. I love the idea of having 20-30 of my games all on a single sd card. I'm not advocating piracy, but convenience is definitely a motivator.

Hey, cancel that and get a much better flash card, like the Acekard.

This doesn't seem like it'll do anything at all, when all you have to do is type "ds flash card" into google and you have hundreds of sites who can get you whatever kind of card you want, almost all of them (ahem, Cyclo) cheaper than one commercial DS game.

for some reason this make me think of Nintendo reciting that old joke:

We we were young we were all poor.
Mommy was poor, daddy was poor,
the maid was poor, the butler was poor...

So this is the way they deal with "information terrorists". Are you serious?

Ebay and Amazon. Because they are totally the exclusive vendors of this product. Let's be honest an R4, like every other bypass/homebrew assisting technology (Swap Magic/M33/R4) can be bought from hundreds of places around the net so this will barely make a dent in whatever Nintendo is trying to accomplish.

Piracy is something that comes with making software. What would Nintendo do in a country where the piracy rates are in the 75% and above?

Nintendo wants to stop piracy? Start putting some money into development instead of flooding the market with shovelware that noone wants.

Why do they keep showing the R4DS? That card hasn't had an update in forever and it's a total pain to try and get roms patched to play with it now.

Who buys from Ebay still? I can tell you right now you can still get them at a few other sites. Good Luck Big N.

Banning the sales of these items will change nothing.
People who want to copy things, always find a way.
And i assure you, the first place you look to buy an item that does something illegal, is NOT amazon.

I think all this ban did was draw attention to this R4 gadget, some people (like myself) didn't even know it existed until right this second.

Someone tell me honestly, are there more people using R4 flashcarts to pirate games or are there more people using them to create homebrew games? (Answers will probably vary by region.)

Let me tell you a personal story of mine, I have three friends who got R4's. Used for one thing. Copying a ton of games to play on their DS anywhere. They say I should get one so that way we don't have to suffer through the multiplayer using single card mode. And a lot of multiplayer games don't support single card download play, well, the games that WE play. I don't wanna get one, I don't care, mostly because I don't wanna pay money for one. If anything, I am still waiting until they come out with a working DS emulator that plays EVERY SINGLE DS GAME PERFECTLY that runs on computers. I don't care about playing games on my DS. On my computer is fine. But back to the point. So my friend says, "What if someone were to buy one for you as a gift?" So I thought, "OMG, you gotta be kidding! You shouldn't have to PAY just to play with someone who doesn't really give a crap about these games." So basically I was given the option to get a free R4 flashcart so I could play games on my DS and I turned it down. Your reaction to this story shows what side of piracy you're on obviously.

But this story shows that three people I know all got their R4 carts just to do the same thing only. And it certainly ain't homebrew.

Of course they'll agree to ban sales. That means "less" piracy and more sales of carts. That's the hope at least.

Hey, kids, don't pirate things. People need to make money, too. Even if it's not the developers who are making the money, if not enough people buy the game from the retailer, then the developer won't be able to ship as many games and in the end they DO lose money. Remember 2D-Boy? It died because of piracy.

Where I live, each game costs about $90. Yes, NINETY american dollars. It is an outrage, an absurd, about 250% of the price is taxes and plain profit of the store selling it. I would REALLY like the opportunity of getting any game only for $35, it would make me very happy, and i would certainly buy all originals. But, for a country where taxes are even higher than your own life, where you work 5 months per year just to pay taxes to the govern, oh boy, what can we do? Starve to death just to buy some games at the price of a new furniture? Or god damn low the prices and taxes?
