Christian Bale loves video games, lost sleep over Super Mario

Taking time out of his Terminator Salvation press tour to sit down with Conversations, Christian Bale spoke about his childhood love for our lifetime passion, video games. When the interviewer brings up Roger Ebert's review of the film (video game reference in tow), he then asks Bale if he played video games "in his younger years," to which Bale replies, "I played video games in my entire growing-up years. One of my favorites is Super Mario. I wouldn't sleep until I finished the game, you know."

Not quite the drug-addled gaming experiences of Alec Baldwin, but sleepless nights in front of the television are something we can all relate to regardless. Not everyone can be a Jack Donaghy, ya know?

I really did enjoy the new Terminator since there were some great action scenes and the CGI was fantastic, as well as its look and filming style which was reminiscent of Black Hawk Down. However, this was some of the worst dialogue I'd seen in an action movie recently. Honestly, the dialogue was so bad at some points that it was actually enough to take you out of the movie. I like Christian Bale and he's definitely proven to be a very capable actor, but he had nothing to work with here.

You know what? I enjoyed the hell out of that movie. Sure it had HUGE plot holes and horrid dialog, but I liked it way more than Terminator 3 (which I'm 90% certain was a spoof of the Terminator franchise).

I'm not saying Salvation was even close to Terminator 1 and 2, but it was a nice summer blockbuster and I don't think it deserves all the hate it's been receiving.

***SPOILERS BELOW!!***

WTF at the plot holes?! First we learn that the machines can hear a pin drop form a mile a way, then we see Bale and crew WREAK A FOREST with out a care in the world. That aside the ending heart transplant REALLY pissed me off. Never mind the fact that their all in a desert with sand blowing all over the damn place, what are the chances this robo-dude has the same blood type as Connor? Did these guys even review the damn script before writing?

Believe it or not that aside I still give this movie a solid 7. It kept me on the edge of my seat and I loved the last battle scene.

i thought about bale's rant the first time i saw split screen video of the game because it was "distracting" to me. my late nite games were usually excite bike or paper boy. i still remember ending super mario world the day we got the snes.

I have a feeling your e-books and whatever suck ass either way, though. Having to promote your books in the comments section of a gaming blog isn't exactly the best marketing tool for your books and doesn't really create alot of faith in your products among potential customers.

Wow, so Bale is not only a big Miyazaki film fan (he voiced Howl in Howl's Moving Castle in the English dub). He also like video game, oh it's a shame he didn't lend his voice to the game. That would have made the game look attractive. Any word what Bale think about the game.

Don't. Really. You aren't missing anything. I like Bale, but his voice in Howl's Moving Castle sounded so boring and generic. I don't know if it was him, or the director, or what, but it was really pretty awful. The one time Billy Crystal outperforms him. XD

You should trying Howl's moving Castle in English dub. It's really amazing, Bale did a good job giving Howl's voice. Not only that I read something that he was a admirer of Spirited away.

He sounded alright, but when you listen to the original voice and some of Bale's more charismatic performances, his voiceover for Howl's Moving Castle really pales in comparison.

The new movie is a freaking joke. I even liked T3 better. At least it followed the flow of the other two movies. This one didnt at all. The cool CGI Arnie was the only point were I said "damn that looks cool". The water bots sucked and the fact there were only 3 or 4 damn robots at the skynet factory. What the hell are they building? Special edition's? Bale was playing Batman as John Conner.... Marcus was the only interesting charter. Hell Brian Austin Green was better than Bale on the tv show and he was playing Kyle's brother. TSCC was way better than this bastardization.

I'm sorry, but every time I've seen a celebrity asked this question, their answer is always, "Oh, yeah! Super Mario!" Seriously? Any particular one? Was it SMB? SMB3? SMW? I gotta say, I don't recall a game called "Super Mario".

If you aren't a gamer, just admit that you aren't a gamer. I don't know anybody who, asked what their favorite game was, would say "Super Mario". Nobody. Even my non-gamer friends know enough to answer that question.

In summary, if you are a celebrity, answer questions truthfully. If you are not a gamer, you will not gain points with anybody (gamer or no) by trying to make yourself out to be one. It really comes off as fake and disingenuous.
