Before they were tentacle-headed mutant monstrosities, zombies in the Resident Evil series were simply zombies. They had no fanatic tendencies, nor zealous leader -- only a penchant for devouring brains and mindlessly shambling. It was a simpler time -- and as some would argue, a better time.
If you're looking to relive this golden undead era, but lack the proper disc-based media to do so, we've got great news -- as hinted at by a recent ESRB rating, Resident Evil: Director's Cut is coming to the PSN on May 28 (otherwise known as next Thursday) for $9.99. We can't wait -- though we wish it had support for trophies. We like to consider ourselves the master of unlocking trophies. (We feel dirty.)

Finally! I just hope that they don't save one huge release for subsequent weeks (MGS one week, some other big game another week) because that would be totally uncool.

Ashitaka, I sure as hell can beat MGS in under a week, and I doubt Resident Evil would last a full week either. You're also assuming that everyone buys every game launched on the service; there's plenty of classic games I would probably pass on because they just don't interest me.

Seems a little pricey; also any news on an EU release?

i've had burgers that cost more than $10; they didn't taste worth it, and even still i didn't complain about the price. one of PS1's premiere classics is easily worth $10.
even though i'm in the US and will be getting it next Thursday, here's to hoping it's released in EU as well.

Yeah you're probably right atrimus; I'm just pissed that my 60gb launch day PS3 just broke on me and now sony want £145 ($230 USD) for it to be replaced :(
So that extra $10 or so seems like a lot at the minute.

Its no where near as much of an issue as it is with Xbox360s, but cosmo has a point.. The 60gb PS3s seem to be on the way out.
@Night Elve, I never had any problems with mine either until this :(

@libertine,
Look up continuousplay, my PS3 broke recently and using their scheme it got fixed for only £5, and I am going to cancel it as my refurb PS3 has 3 month warranty :)

@Talvon
I would but I think that would be like buying life insurance for a dead person. Sony's repair price is ridiculous as well; I could get a brand new xbox and 2 games for the price of repair alone.

Yeah, sucks. I got shafted with the $150 USD repair bill this past February.
I'm told though that I can re-coup the loss by selling the 60 gb and picking up a new one (since the design issue seems to be primarily affecting the 60 gb launch units). I just may move on that if a $300 ps3 is introduced in the coming months. Who knows if this refurbished one's going to blow up on me at some point.

Well I knew these were coming but sadly I didn't know they were going to price gouge the real classics. There's no reason for this to be $10 over any of the other ps1 games, they're just doing it because RE has a bigger name. I wanted this, but I'm not going to give in to their gouging.

Symphony of the Night, which I would argue is the only real classic on the PS1 store right now, is $10.

Playing VC, PS1, or xbox originals for $15 at most versus re-packaging and re-selling old games for $50. Big difference there.

I don't think they need to be enhance either but adding ws would be a plus.

I'm guessing you're referring to the Metroid Prime trilogy like its one game for $50 instead of three for $50. With your $15 assertation then the GC Primes would be $15 and the Wii one $20. So the only big difference I see there is the GC ones have been retooled but the VC, PS1 and Xbox originals games haven't been. So I still can't see why you're excited for this rehash as you've already bought it before.
"it's not a rehash. it's pretty much the exact same game, not enhanced in any way except for access to the manual during the game."
Pretty sure RE: Director's Cut is a rehash of RE. Adding hyper zombies, costumes, new camera angles and the like. Though they could do their American audience right and put the uncensored intro into the game like they promised in the original release and then never did. Not holding my breath on that one though.

Yeah, I find it strange that Europe is on of the biggest Sony supporters and they get way less.

I have a feeling if everyone spoke English in Europe the release delay would vanish overnight. Either that or if they standardized their media laws, so that every country got the same version. That's the advantage having a unified continent (territory), and as cool as the whole EU thing is, it leaves room for countries to legislate some thing individually which leads to delays during certification processes.
Although Microsoft seems to pull off releasing stuff instantly so maybe SCEE is just retarded (still).

Of course the graphics are "meh", it's an original PS game. All of the 3D PS games look "meh" when compared to today's games.

Mr Khan:
I have nothing against classic games, as a matter of fact I still play games like FF6 and Chrono Trigger. But I had always trouble with the early 3d games such as alone in the dark, Resident Evil etc. I just can't play those anymore, which doesn't mean they are bad.
and why get all critical posts voted down...friggin fanboys

I'm on your side trunks. Early 3D games just don't hold up well. It makes them REALLY hard to play, while I can pop in Earthbound or pretty much any 16-bit game no problem.
Goldeneye is a perfect example. I played the living shit out of it for years, but not long ago some friends and I popped it in and I had to drop a barf almost instantly. And let 's not even TALK about FFVII (that'll catch me some heat, I bet).

There is 1 exception already, symphony of the night. But like I said above, that's also a true ps1 classic and they're charging more based on the name alone. That's 1 thing I give credit to Microsoft and even Nintendo. They never charged more for Halo on originals or Super Mario 64 on VC.

Actually, I believe FFVII costs the equivalent of $15 on the Japanese Store

I think it's more along the lines of this school of thought.
Sony doesn't own RE:DC. They never have, never will. LIKE Symphony of the Night, it's the publisher dictating this price. In other words, point the finger at Capcom. If the game stills seems like too much to you, simply don't buy it. Problem solved.
And oh yeah, tmac, Nintendo HAS charged premiums for select titles because they were imported. Like Sin & Punishment being $12 instead of $10.

Capcom slapped gamers with that price, not Sony, Sony can't decided what price other developers gamings should go for, thats down to them and Capcom wants your moniesess, so give them to Capcom if you is wanting the game.
