Bees terrorize GameStop employees, various New Yorkers
We've only got so many words here to explain a story of bee terror, and as such, we promise to keep the bee puns to an absolute minimum. Here goes nothing! At a GameStop this weekend in Union Square, NYC, a bee infestation forced the employees to shut down the store and call for help. One bee-leaguered eyewitness at the scene talked to ABC, saying, "When I got here, there was already like a thousand bees in there ... then they came out ... there were more ... they were like -- in a pack." No! Only four sentences in!
The terror apparently continued for a number of hours while employees indoors anxiously awaited the NYPD "Bee Expert" (seriously), Tony Planakis. "I'm probably gonna be relying on scent ... the queen bee's scent ... it could take a half hour, an hour ... two hours ... I don't know," Planakis told ABC, hot on the queen bee's trail. It's not clear whether the GameStop employees were playing Buck Bumble inside or not, though we're inclined to suspect they were.

Well, damn. Get Cheney back into office, he'll take care of the terrorism.
(Was it sarcasm?>??)
Levi @ May 24th 2009 12:29PM
wow, I fully expected to come back and be invisible... Here, I'll down rank myself.
^_^
LaughingTarget @ May 24th 2009 1:06PM
That's just how bipartisanship works. Half of everyone votes you up, the other half votes you down and you'll never know if anyone bothered to click the little button at all.
Cj @ May 24th 2009 11:34AM
Iv been to this GS a few times. The bees were probably tired of hearing "Would you like to Preorder _____?"
Tim @ May 24th 2009 11:51AM
Well, you'd hear that at any gs
LaughingTarget @ May 24th 2009 1:09PM
I don't blame them for trying. There are thousands of bees in a colony and imagine how great they would look to that douchebag regional manager if they just got 25% of them to pre-order.
tyetheczar @ May 26th 2009 2:21PM
They should have gone after the guys higher up barking orders and telling them to do the stupid stuff.(See Zero Originality for what I mean.)
OMGOMG @ May 25th 2009 2:14AM
NOT THE BEEEEES!
Wiizer @ May 24th 2009 11:42AM
The west coast gets new Final Fantasy XIII posters, and we get... bees.
Mr Khan @ May 24th 2009 11:43AM
and we get the joys of watching E3 on G4! Isn't life just grand?
ArchiGamer @ May 24th 2009 12:25PM
At least they aren't 124 ft tall bees that hover above you with their sexual ambiguity.
Levi @ May 24th 2009 12:30PM
only if you have G4... how much is it to add I wonder?
Mr Khan @ May 24th 2009 1:19PM
Sad enough that i lack G4 the 1 week a year that its actually very useful. I'll try and hit the Nintendo conference live at GoNintendo, and VGChartz is going to try also, but when both inevitably fail, i'll wind up back at GameSpot like i did last year, probably.
AwesomeTown @ May 24th 2009 3:03PM
And at least they aren't dogs with bees in their mouths, and when they bark they shoot bees at you.
Wes @ May 24th 2009 4:44PM
@Levi
DONT GET THE G4 SPECIAL. Last year, I bought it for the one month for like 4.50 to get the E3 press conference coverage etc which was live-coverage. Anyways, for every 5 minutes, there was a 2 minute 30 second commercial break. So anyways, I was streaming the coverage from Microsoft's website on my pc at the same time and there was more coverage via the web-feed then G4. G4TV's advertising breaks constantly made it awful and worthless.
The whole watching-it-on-my-tv-via-cable was a bit nicer quality than the web-streaming but still.
SEVENim @ May 24th 2009 11:49AM
Maye the bees are just trying to help us! Its just their way of telling us to go to game crazy instead.
Ranko @ May 24th 2009 11:50AM
The title of this article made me think of "Ride of the Valkyries" for some reason.

Wasn't Buck Bumble the game with the reggae-ish theme song? I remember renting it once and not even making it past the first level before turning it off, but the theme song was pretty boss from what I remember.
Reuben @ May 24th 2009 11:59AM
I too rented it when I was younger, and I didn't get past that first level either. I did, however, keep the game on the main menu after quitting to listening to that fantastic theme music.
Slaziman @ May 24th 2009 12:16PM
It was hard but I finished the game when I was like 10, too bad they made a game targeted to children so hard, I kinda liked it.

They are just following thier ambitions to bee marketing experts for gamestop.
They were always told to bee who they want to bee.
dimaskrenz @ May 24th 2009 1:56PM
"They are just following their ambitions to bee marketing experts for gamestop.

Maverick Saturn @ May 24th 2009 2:30PM
Lol, as soon as I saw a reply to this comment, I just knew it was going to bee about 'ambeetions', coincidence huh ^^
DaisukeKiriyama @ May 24th 2009 12:03PM
With that many bees, I'm surprised no one took a picture of The Pain.
BloodShot Robot @ May 24th 2009 12:10PM
So that's where all the worlds disappearing bees have been.
dextro @ May 24th 2009 12:39PM

Tommy gun,grenade...Bikini.
BigD145 @ May 24th 2009 12:20PM
Nobody noticed the bees until they got to be a swarm? I'll bet that store has numerous city code violations.
Joe @ May 24th 2009 12:24PM
Doesn't really have anything to do with gaming but still a fun topic. Good job Joystiq! lol
Sam @ May 24th 2009 12:38PM

Hashbrown Hunter @ May 24th 2009 12:39PM
GameStop deserves it.
Their employees, however, do not.
ShadowflareXIII @ May 24th 2009 2:31PM
Karma.
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ May 24th 2009 4:41PM
Speak for yourself their employees suck I hope all of them rot in hell.
ArchiGamer @ May 24th 2009 4:47PM
Manly
Not all of them, some are honestly human in character, than soulless drones that I sometimes come across at some the GameStop shops I have visited in the pst.
FOX @ May 24th 2009 1:16PM
Slow news day? Is the sole purpose of this article just to take up blog space? Here are some other articles you might want to try:
- Man drinks Pepsi Throwback on side walk out side of Gamestop. Enjoys it!
- Woman pushes baby carriage past videogame outlet store.
- Over 88 cars a minute drive by Sony of America Offices during rush hour, also various trucks.
- Toddler drops new purchased game in puddle. Video after the Jump!!!
Maverick Saturn @ May 24th 2009 1:30PM
OMG! Someone who opposes the Joystiq god! :O
Reaper man @ May 24th 2009 1:30PM
With a name like "FOX," you shouldn't talk.
MystileArmor @ May 24th 2009 2:30PM
"Slow news day?"
Well what the fuck do you do every sunday?
FOX @ May 24th 2009 5:27PM
@ MystileArmor
Actually on Sundays I participate in competitive blog reading. Where I, and a bunch of other Pro Blog reading athletes, hold officiated contests to see who can read the most repetitions of the most blogs in a given amount of time. It’s extremely competitive. So you can see why an article about a beehive at a strip mall would only serve to reduce my time, while not providing the normal enjoyable videogame news Joystiq is known for.
MystileArmor @ May 24th 2009 7:06PM
Ok, you obviously missed the point.
IT'S A FUCKING SUNDAY!
Not only that but this is a blog, not purely a news-feed.
What would you want to see? When you type in "joystiq.com" into your browser window on a sunday afternoon that a big screen pops up;
"We're closed, but only for assholes like you!"
Ashitaka @ May 24th 2009 8:11PM
If you don't like a post, don't read it.
If you don't like a blog, don't post there.
Seriously, you would do us all a favour by shutting up.
