Behold the vacant stare of the Chun-Li action figure
NECA has a long history of crowding our shelves with action figures, and while we're accustomed to emptying our wallets for these plastic diversions without question there's just something about this latest Chun Li figure that looks a little ... off.
Set for release in August, she's one of a three new NECA toys based on Street Fighter IV, including figures modeled after Akuma and Guile as well. And while each of the figs has their own unique quirks, maybe it's Chun Li's oddly-defined muscles or creepy blank stare that's weirding us right out. On second thought, it's gotta be the hands. They're just way too small.

Seriously, these things look so much better without the gargantuan articulation points. I'd rather have an immovable figure that wouldn't make me ill every time I looked at it.
Linkario @ May 24th 2009 1:23PM
Time for an intervention... Chun Lee... we've all noticed the tracks on your arms and we think it is time that you give up the heroin.
MaRRODkez @ May 24th 2009 1:35PM
Please Joystiq, I'll forgive you this time, but please for the love of gawd do not get into any sort of habit in doing posts on figurines. It's one of the reasons I never go to Kotaku. It's bad enough that I see it on destructoid which is a pretty decent site.
Ashitaka @ May 24th 2009 8:17PM
You don't have to read it, dumbass.
Just skip the post and read the next one.
MaRRODkez @ May 24th 2009 10:54PM
I'm really surprised this hasn't become some stupid meme yet, the brainless rebuttal of someone who doesn't want to acknowledge anything within the original comment.
Maybe from now on anytime I see anything from anyone on the stiq that remotely disagrees with anything I've said, I can just say "O HAI TARD, YOU CAN JUST SKIP IT IF YOU DONT WAT TO READ IT"
Courtney @ May 25th 2009 12:15AM
Ignoring Assitaka's rudeness, I find Joystiq's coverage of figurines and toys to be better than several other sites. I think they point out either things that are truly, jawdroppingly awesome...or the weirdness of something like this Chun-Li. I appreciate both.
Though I agree that I don't want to be updated on the minutia of video game figurines.
Oh, and my condolences on your recent red ring, any time frame on getting it back?
MaRRODkez @ May 25th 2009 12:27AM
Agree totally, they don't have a habit of doing it, and I love it that way. I was likely jumping the gun a bit, but I hate seeing that stuff on other sites and just don't expect it here.
As usual, you're response is an appropriate and respectable one. Saying 'you don't have to read it, dumbass' is asinine, because it follows that if you don't like the comment, then you don't have to read it and respond like a dumbass.
I don't have a timeline for getting it back, thanks for bringing that up :P I drop it off at UPS w/ MS's label on Thursday. Get a receipt that says it will be picked up the same day and I receive a tracking #. Since then, status on the UPS site has only said 'billing information recvd', which means nothing more than they acknowledge MS paid for a label. The worst part, is this also means they aren't acknowledging it was picked up, or shipped, or where it's at, or what happened...
Neither the actual store, or corporate will assist further. Store says 'well, I don't see it here, the driver probably just didn't scan it.' Corporate says well it isn't our responsibility, MS paid for the label, they'd be responsible for reimbursing you if the package is gone. That makes zero sense being that I have a receipt from UPS stating they'd accepted it for shipment. I can't even open an inquiry or 'trace' until Friday. Good stuff, I'll cross my fingers it's actually going where it's supposed to :P
Courtney @ May 25th 2009 1:10AM
I deal with UPS daily (I run a small online business), and the good news for you is that it's likely just that tracking is wonky over the holiday weekend, which is quite common on the federal/major holidays. If the driver did forget to scan it, it may have reached the next facility, but won't be processed over the long weekend, so tracking won't update until Tuesday.
Also, it's not uncommon for drivers to miss a box or two on store pickups, depending on how good employees are at keeping things orderly. I've got a couple of acquaintances who work at UPS Stores, and I know that happens. Rather than irritate a customer with their incompetence, it's much easier to blame it on an anonymous driver, knowing the package will get picked up the next time the driver is there.
MaRRODkez @ May 25th 2009 1:20AM
Appreciate the reassurances :)
Ashitaka @ May 25th 2009 12:19PM
"I'm really surprised this hasn't become some stupid meme yet, the brainless rebuttal of someone who doesn't want to acknowledge anything within the original comment."
1. Brainless U.
2. There was nothing to acknowledge, there was only your stupid whining.
"Maybe from now on anytime I see anything from anyone on the stiq that remotely disagrees with anything I've said, I can just say "O HAI TARD, YOU CAN JUST SKIP IT IF YOU DONT WAT TO READ IT"
3. I didn't disagree with you. It's jsut that what you said was simply absurd. Just because you don't like news related to figurines, that doesn't give you any right to complain about them and about joystiq. I could like them (I don't) and so I could like joystiq to report on them.
So I reiterate what I said before. STFU and skip the post.
You don't read all the news in a newspaper, do you?
MaRRODkez @ May 25th 2009 2:11PM
If you'll notice my comment was on observation on the content of this site versus other similar ones, as an avid reader I'm going to comment on that if I want. If you'll notice, Courtney realized there was something to acknowledge, and responded accordingly.
What I said was simply absurd? Doesn't give me a right to complain? It's a blog, pal, that people comment on. If I don't want to see Joystiq trend towards more of this type of coverage, I can say whatever I want about it. I have a right to comment anything I feel like,
So I reiterate what I said before, saying 'you don't have to read it, dumbass' is asinine, because it follows that if you don't like the comment, then you don't have to read it and respond like a dumbass.
If you don't like the comment, STFU and skip it.
I noticed you did the same thing on another post, so I guess if you're gonna be the one whiner who always replies to people with 'if you don't like, don't read it' then you're going to be a busy guy being the comment police.
Ashitaka @ May 25th 2009 5:05PM
"If you'll notice my comment was on observation on the content of this site versus other similar ones, as an avid reader I'm going to comment on that if I want. If you'll notice, Courtney realized there was something to acknowledge"
If you'll notice, you were the one downvoted.
"What I said was simply absurd?"
Affirmative.
"It's a blog, pal, that people comment on."
O' rly? Didn't know, thanks for the info.
"If I don't want to see Joystiq trend towards more of this type of coverage, I can say whatever I want about it. I have a right to comment anything I feel like"
You have that right, but you risk sounding like an idiot (like you did).
"So I reiterate what I said before, saying 'you don't have to read it, dumbass' is asinine, because it follows that if you don't like the comment, then you don't have to read it and respond like a dumbass.
If you don't like the comment, STFU and skip it."
Wrong. Because you see, when you complain, not one of the joystiq writers gives a shit. When I complain, at least YOU listen to the voice of reasoning and perhaps (if you're mature enough) learn not to do it next time. Let's just hope
MaRRODkez @ May 25th 2009 5:37PM
I don't care when I get downvoted as I realize it's not any sort of accurate gauge as to the validity of my opinion. There's nothing absurd about commenting on the content that goes on Joystiq. I expect 99% of the time the authors don't care about what's in the comments. Having just appointed yourself as the voice of reasoning is hilarious, I guess having a conversation with you is beyond pointless.
Learn not to do it again next time? Gosh I guess its wrong for a consistent reader to critique the website, I didn't know Joystiq was infallible and that readers shouldn't be able to voice opinions on the content. So sorry, dear voice of reasoning (usually the voice of reason) gosh I hope I'll be more mature next time.
MaRRODkez @ May 25th 2009 5:40PM
Not sure you noticed either, that somebody responded to my comment in an adult way, and responded to the point I was making, and wasn't an ass about it. I guess he should STFU and move on as well, or wait for you to be disrespectful and call him a dumbass. Let's hope you're mature enough to do so next time.
