New DLC makes Animal Crossing avatars look even more punchable
To celebrate the release of Punch-Out!!, Nintendo is offering a gift to European Animal Crossing: Let's Go to the City players on Little Mac's behalf. Is it enough to bring prodigal Crossers back into the Wii game? Well, only those who love headgear. We kind of think the protective boxing equipment looks slightly supervillain-esque, which is a bonus. From now until June 5, Let's Go to the City players who have WiiConnect24 on can get a gift of green boxing headgear just for turning the game on and checking their mail. The headgear will be stuffed into a letter. The item has yet to appear on the North American DLC hub, but we're confident American gamers will be able to protect their avatars' squishy heads soon.

you can now visit your animal crossing town in the short bus.

Giving away things for a game I've already bought, rather than charging me for them? What is this I don't even-!
tmacairjordan87 @ May 25th 2009 12:46PM
Relax, it's just a green helmet that if worn outside of a boxing ring makes your character look like a special needs person.

The blank stare and smile doesn't help either.
"I can count to potato."
Snowblind @ May 25th 2009 1:36PM
They're giving this away because it's content already in the game that's just locked off. All the Animal Crossing games have done this, and it can't really be compared to actual DLC that adds NEW content into games.
Still, some companies still wouldn't think twice about charging us for things like this.
I'm looking at you Capcom.

Too bad the DLC isn't already in the game. These items aren't even on the disc.
Roto13 @ May 25th 2009 2:05PM
You can compare it because that's what a bunch of Japanese companies do anyway. :P

Sorry, Snowblind, but you're wrong on this one. AC:CF/LGTTC actually does have DLC. Content like this, the Pikmin hats, the DSi bench, etc... are NOT on the game disc. Or, if they are, they're hidden so well that the creator(s) of ACTool couldn't find it.

I'm disappointed with this game. Nothing can bring me back to it. Especially not DLC headgear about a game that is far superior.

I agree 100%, they dropped the ball on this one. So many missed opportunities. After playing WW for 2 years then getting this, it broke my addiction.
I'm off the shit now man, off the shit.

I will never get over how terrible a name 'Lets Go To The City!' is.
ScottG13 @ May 25th 2009 12:56PM
Wow. Nintendo is really leading the way with DLC. Unstoppable.
Meloche @ May 25th 2009 1:00PM
Heh, at least it's free!
KEENMACHlNE @ May 25th 2009 5:06PM
Dont you mean Wah
Dopple Boppler @ May 25th 2009 1:09PM
Haha, I traded Animal Crossing City Folk in and put the money towards Punch-Out. I don't think ironic is the right word for that, but it's definitely amusing.
Mr Khan @ May 25th 2009 1:49PM
They do need to push it a bit more, since Europe's memories of the NES era are nowhere near as fond as North America's

Hey I like animal crossing. I have since I played it when i was 8 or 9 years old. Don't judge me. Its a fun game at first but after a few weeks you've done everything. Now I just play it to capture any fish/ bugs I haven't yet and/or water my flowers to maintain my Perfect tow status... Yea I know it sounds really fruity but its kinda fun not to mention relaxing.
Bill McCai @ May 26th 2009 6:52AM
We got this in Australia, too.
Despite the fact Nintendo hasn't even given a release date for Punch Out here, yet.
