Oh, so it's not discontinued after all, you say? Well, that's good for anyone looking to add a couple extra hours of battery life to their PSP. Those looking to do so should check out SonyStyle, where a new model of the Extended Life PSP Battery has popped up. Though it's not yet available and listed as backordered (for $44.99), we know this battery is all-new, given the different model number (now PSP98560, was PSP-280) and PSP-3000 compatibility.
Apparently, someone on the PlayStation Forums has claimed to have already purchased one of these babies. If the forum poster is to be believed, then we can expect this battery to be just as bulky as its predecessor. Also, keep an eye on Sony's press conference next Tuesday; we'd assume that would be the most likely of places for more details.

Still way to expensive for a battery. I'll wait for a price drop on this before i ever buy it.

Probably popped up because it'll be compatible with the new PSP.

Needs to add 50% more power.

I have one sir. 50% is not far off in practical use. It sucks to have to pay a kings ransom for the charger and battery for swapping, but the marketing info isn't far off...and that's rare.

If its the same size as the old battery, why doesn't it double the play time like it. Bad move sony

I was going to suggest nykko's charger grip (ergonomic and tons of extra life for $15-20) but it's out of stock everywhere I looked online (amazon, walmart, gamestop). Maybe your local gamestop will have it. I highly suggest it every psp owner.

The people who aren't retarded enough to think a console that sold 50 million units isnt relevant. That's who.

And to Tuck, I've also seen 3rd party red extended covers out there. Can't comment on how good they are, but they're out there.

It's no different than the battery that was already on the market, I bought on for my PSP2000. it's the same mAh as the one I'm holding in my hand right now. Supposedly some people use batteries to reflash dead PSPs to old firmware versions so they can turn them into Custom Firmware enabled systems that can pirate games, they might have done this bcause they discovered another exploit in the most recent extended life batteries since there's no change in shape or power.
These batteries in the past have given me a good 7 - 8 hours of battery life in my PSP.

Honestly, I'd rather just see standard sized batteries get a modest upgrade and/or released cheaply.
Four or five batteries that fit in my PSP with original battery life > One battery that distorts my PSP's shape and doesn't even double life.
Really bums me out, apparently some Wal-Marts were selling PSP batteries at $5 new. Which would be great, but none of the ones near me did. Might be possible to find some on eBay, but then you have no idea if you're getting new or used, or counterfeit.

I've got one of these. In a Slim, it rocks. 2200mAh vs. 1200mAh. That's an +80% jump. And it shows, my PSP seems to last forever with one of these.
It's a little bulkier, and if you have any cases for a Slim, it likely won't fit anymore, but it's not a huge deal for me. I'd try to track down a legit one a little cheaper than $45, but if you travel a lot, it's well worth it.

so buy the PSP for 250$ then buy the games for 40$+ and now buy the EXTENDED battery power for ONLY 50$. What's so wrong with plugging it in or even buying new batteries?

I bought 2 of these when they got repackaged with the extra battery doors last year. I paid $9 for one at Target and $11 for one at Kmart :P All they did was put the original blister pack in another box with the doors. I later bought a Blue PSP2000 and needed a door so I just asked a kid working at a gamestop for one and he gave it too me. If you get the Logitech Playgear pocket for the slim, it is made to fit the extended battery pack so you should be good to go. 11 hours of playtime if you are using the card backup method to play your games. I rarely use my UMDs anymore so I can not tell you how that affects the playtime.

I just seen one of these new repacks at the local best buy. I just assume that these new extended batteries can not be made into pandoras. Apologies if that has been said in the posts above ^_^;

Actually...the Sony Style store is officially out. And customer service says that the product is discontinued. Bummer. I like mine, and I wanted to get another.
