GameStop's site recently posted a price and release date for Tony Hawk Ride, affixing a cost of $120 onto the bundle for all systems, along with a release date of October 13. While it's by no means official confirmation of the game's release date or price, it should prepare you for the worst. Coincidentally, $120 is about how much we think it will cost to replace the first lamp you break in the living room.

lol yes, thank you.
As a skateboarder i think that if you seriously are thinking of buying this game i would recomend a real skateboard. I know i know same argument when we compare games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero (aka "lrn2playrealinstruments") but $120 for one plastic skateboard? i bought a Element board, Indi trucks, Bone bearings, and some old wheels i had ( 45mm =D ) and it all cost me $105, and thats because i bought the expensive bearings for more speed.
i'll just wait for a fruit booting or frame f*cking game

That's cool, man. Maybe Hawk Jamz will be more your style. Play pick-up hoops with Tony Hawk, and that girl with big boobs from Guitar Hero. If your SKILLZ are MAD enough, you might find yourself dunking with secret unlockable character Sgt. Paul Jackson! (Suck it Infinity Ward, we own his ass)
That's Hawk Jamz, available in Spring 2010 with wired basketball controller. $150 on all platforms.

"If I wanted to _______ I'd just do it and not play videogames"; yet, here we are on a game blog...
Anyway, as someone who was prompted to try skateboarding after the first THPS came out there is something to be said for the games: you're instantly good at whatever it is the game is about (skateboarding, golfing, guitar playing, etc).
If this game manages to sell even partially as well as the GH and RB games, I could see sales of skateboards and equipment increasing due to popular interest in it, just as GH and RB did to guitar related products.

GewurztraminerX, usually people make those comments regarding playing a real guitar, but in this context it made sense what Comet said. This is a board add on at a total cost of $60 for one skateboarding game. A game type that has no need for an expensive peripheral. The concept is flawed and there really is no good reason for someone to buy such an over priced item for use in one game.

Agree, The Tony Hawk series has been going downhill for a while. I dont think charging double is going to get the series back to its early success.

I used to have a sweet Cheech and Chong Flip board for about $120. I never got to much into skating because I was afraid for my balls.

That was really a reply for the first comment. So I'll just make a comment on this game here.
It isn't going to be successful. These time are hard enough for a non established gimmick to not make sales for being too expensive. In other words, if Guitar Hero just came out now for that price, then I don't think it would do well either.

Hmm I actually agree with you on this one...
This is such a gimmick. And even tho I'm not a skater at all for $120 I don't see how you could justify spending that much money to play game simulating skating as opposed to learning the real thing....

So you know all those videos on YouTube where kids bust their balls trying to trick on skateboards? Yeah, the videos involving this useless piece of plastic are going to be A LOT better.

@ Ghen: that's unfortunate. Even Guitar Hero allows for that and at least in a Tony Hawk game it would make sense because that's how it started. Sounds like a bad move.

Will it require a board or is it optional? Given the recent TH history, there is no way I would drop 120 on the game. I still think that Tony Hawk 2x for xbox is the best TH game to date. And you can get it for $0.99 online.

It is one thing to be able to buy a fake band in a box (GHWT) for $100 when it is on sale.
It is another to buy a fake skateboard or fake DJ turntable for $120 EACH.
Sorry, but neither game holds my interest, and for both I will pass.
GFWL - Let me guess, Science Papa is going to also be $120 and it includes the fake "WOOD BURNING KIT", right?

i am really eager to see this in action at e3. i have a feeling it is going to fail. however, i think e3 will prove whether or not this is a complete waste of space.
they should either have tony hawk trying it out in front of a live audience. or a fat guy that would never be on a real skateboard in front of a live audience. both could be fails or wins.

Now I see why the Activision Executive sold 60 million worth of stock. I fail to see the appeal of this device.

You guys are forgetting the dangers of a real skateboard. Personally, I can't even move one on flat ground because of my fear of motion. The closest I can get is a roller coaster because I know that I'm strapped in. Having a motion sensitive board might just be the next best thing for me than becoming overwhelmed with fear. Am I the only one on this boat?

Activision is betting their entire franchise on the hopes that you are not the only one.
Personally, I think you're gonna be pretty lonely on that boat.

I actually agree. I think too many are jumping on the hate bandwagon and the arguement for not wanting to buy a plastic device when you could buy the real thing doesn't work here anymore than it does for Guitar Hero.
And like you said, Skateboarding has a whole load of potiential dangers that playing a guitar doesn't. This doesn't sound like such a bad idea to me.. Just not a particularly innovative one.
I think Guitar Hero worked so well because there was nothing at all like it at the time, but nowadays we have boat loads of games trying this peripheral thing, and don't the Wii games already support the balance board? I don't think this will appeal to general consumers, and it's clear the hardcore gaming crowd aren't interested either.

I think the only way this game works is if there's two ways to play it. You can buy the skateboard for the new experience, or use the controller instead. This whole thing just sounds like a bad idea from a corporate brainstorming session.
In less than 2 years, EA has become the friend of gamers, with new IP's and drastic changes in their franchises, and Activision changed to a seemingly faceless corporation.

I don't get it they ruined the series for good after Proving Ground. Project 8 gave it a touch of realism that it needed and they should have built on that.
