After Lair tanked, things haven't been going all too well for Factor 5. In fact, things got so bad that the company's North American arm was severed not too long ago. Along with the loss of that studio came the loss of the games it was working on -- specifically the one pictured above.
The image comes courtesy of Unseen64, which got a hold of a whole set of concept art from Factor 5's canceled and untitled PS3 exclusive. Looking closely at the artwork, it's obvious Factor 5 was working on some sort of space-age odyssey, which appears to most resemble a shooter, or even possibly an RPG. Maybe both ... like a Mass Effect equivalent for PS3, perhaps.

I thought so as well. I guess you have to actually play it to know that and it's far easier to just hate for the sake of hating. After all it was a Sony exclusive.

It was a lot better after they put the dual analog patch in that's for sure.

Completely agree that Lair was pretty good, and that the Sixaxis controls were great. I posted something about it a few days ago on another post. It's probably a good idea to use some of that here.
Lair was a great game that wasn't given enough credit. It is an excellent exclusive game that got blasted because it had a complex control system that required some learning as opposed to the single move motion games in Wii Sports at the time. Let's be honest: the controls respond very well. People just got pissed off that they actually had to take a few minutes to learn how to control the dragons instead of repeating the same moves over and over like in the Wii games of the time.
On second thought, Sony opponents have been negative about anything and everything that involves motion controls on any system not made by Nintendo.
Now that can be found for cheap everybody should try it. You won't be disappointed.
And for anyone else reading this that complains about not having enough exclusives on the PS3 we have had many great ones such as this one, Heavenly Sword, Valkyrie Chronicles, etc, that haven't sold well. If we don't support our exclusives, which are not crap but actually good games, of course we won't get more of them.

Sorry, guys. I'm a monogamous PlayStation owner who is genetically predisposed towards dragon-riding games (I enjoyed both Drakengard games, and Drakan II: The Ancient's Gates is a game I love so much that I've played it half a dozen times). And I thought Lair was terrible. I couldn't force my way through it, not just because of the Sixaxis controls. I returned it after about 7 chapters.
It's not all "haters" and "x-bots." If Lair had been a genuinely good game, it would have had a lot more success. It's not a conspiracy. It was just a very flawed game.
That being said, if I still had it around I'd probably take it for a spin with the analog patch. But it's gone, it's not worth any more money for me, and there are many better game to play.

i'm not claiming the game was a master piece but it's alot better than it it gets credit for. i couldn't stand playing kotor or psychonauts but i don't say they are terrible. and i'm not claiming conspiracy but you do notice things like 'the ps3 version isn't on par with the pc version' being the only thing pickled out in articles.

Pretty soon, Lebron will have all the time in the world to think of a comeback.
...no? Anyone?

It was actually the name of my fantasy hoops squad.
Anyway ... I guess when a one man team goes up against an actual team this usually happens. To be honest I thought the game 4 buzzer beater was going in for a second. Of course it would have been a travesty because of that phantom foul against Pietrus with .5 seconds left in regulation.
They should officially change the name to the Cleveland Lebron's. The series isn't officially "over" but it would take a monumental meltdown and Cleveland actually playing as a team to come back and win this one.
So, would you say Orlando is for real now?

a new game by a well known studio is never a bad thing, especially with all the flack they got from lair. what that means is that they will pretty much improve twice as much as any other game, and they will test the hell out of this game to make sure it's control scheme or anything else works.
anyway, I hear lair got patched and was a pretty good experience after that, especially considering copies can be had for 10 bucks

factor 5, didn't you already learn not to stick with the ps3? and did you not notice haze? now if you were still alive, i'd tell you go to go back to nintendo for another rogue squadron. or should've stopped eyeing exclusivity.

Um... yes, Haze and Lair represent one end of the curve with regard to PS3 exclusives, but you are aware that there is another end, aren't you?

Third party games tank on the Wii. Any Wii game without the word "party" in the title is destined for failure.

It's sad what happened to Factor 5. Talent got undermined by being PS3 exclusive and allowing a wonky control scheme for Lair come out as it did. Fixing it didn't help as it was way too late. Someone should have or should just get it back together and try again. This looks interesting, wonder what it was.

I am the only gamer alive who doesn't like KNOTOR/Mass Effect type RPGs. The battle system and long winded text conversations boars me to tears.

See, I would say the same. Only replace KOTOR/Mass Effect with "JRPG."
Seriously, those get boring, long-winded, and bloated at their worst. More so then most games.
BUT, I will admit, when they are on, they are fucking on.

I bought Lair after hearing about how atrocious it was, and I have to say it's one of the best PS3 games I've played. Don't know where all the hate comes from. The motion controls were solid; after about ten minutes of play I had them down pretty well. I played through the game until I got all the platinum medals (13 I think). I never played with the dual analog sticks, but the motion controls were so great I don't see why they're necessary.
With that being said, I hope Factor 5 isn't completley dead. I would like to play some of their games in the future.

You are the first person I've heard of buying a game specifically because you heard it was "atrocious."
I feel like I should make you a medal or a plaque or something. Check your mail.
