Scratch: The Ultimate DJ shows off its ultimate deck

Scratch: The Ultimate DJ is ready to reveal the plastic peripheral that'll take up your precious living room real estate. The Numark-designed deck will certainly keep wannabe game DJs quibbling whether it's better than DJ Hero's deck.

The Numark deck features a free-spinning, touch sensitive turntable (uh, the thing on the left in the photo) and a crossfader with 5 Akai Pro MPC-style drum pads, allowing players to trigger samples -- you know, just like real DJs. Players can use one of the 60 samples shipping with the game or "record and upload their own ... using a compatible USB microphone." Oh, and don't worry, lefties, the deck is flippable.

We'll be certain to give our hands-on scratch impressions next week at E3, where the unit will be available.

Linkin Park's guitarist is really pathetic. Just like most bands now a days. Fill the song with power chords and random lyrics and your done! No solos or tempo changing whatsoever!

With this one having more buttons, I guess it'll be more realistic? Like comparing the drum sets of Guitar Hero and Rock Band.

I vote for the DJ Hero controller. It looks a lot less than this one.

i'm not into peripherals to much outside of an arcade but if i could use it outside the game i might get it

I'm not planning on getting any of the DJ games, but this one looks better to me, simply from the fact that the buttons aren't on the turntable. That is just retarded. You're supposed to scratch (turn) the record, not push down on it.

Simply from a design and layout standpoint - this one wins.

Whoever decided that the buttons should actually go on the turntable, and that the turntable wouldn't actually...uhhh...TURN, was just completely lost.

I hope they have a two turn table mode (just using the mixer from the first). That would be a closer approximation of how ti really works.

Not that I'm getting either (DJing isnt my thing) but this one looks miles better, given the buttons aint on the record, and you can actually turn it.

I guess that's the crossfader at the far-end right? I hope it's stronger than it looks.

This does appear to resemble a real turntable/mixer set more than the DJ Hero offering though...

Looks like a fairly normal crossfader? Whatever they make you do with it in the game, it can't be worse than the abuse rap DJs regularly deliver to real crossfaders...

(I think real mixers sometimes let you replace the crossfader if it breaks, though, doubt this is replaceable...)

Anyhow this controller, while not exactly pretty, looks like it ought to do the job.

By the way, is anybody actually going to release this game, or is it just a lawsuit with a controller attached?

Speaking of which, when are they making Lawsuit Hero with briefcase peripheral?

I wonder how this works. Àla Guitar Hero: Hold a button and spin, or like Beatmania: just press a button and freestyle with the turntable.. there don't seem to be any other options that I can think of.

If anyone's ever seen/used any Hardware/apps such as Final Scratch or Raine's Serato Scratch, this peripheral could potentially work the same way. Moving the turntable back & forwards triggers the sample and the crossfader (on/off switch) is used to create nuances to the sound.
After looking at the images, this is looking quite promising.

Beatmania doesn't work that way. Notes come down from the top of the screen and you press each button accordingly. Its easily the hardest music game, and possibly one of the hardest games, ever made.

Yeah tell me about it, beatmania is one tough game.. A few years back I upgraded from an old 5 button psx controller to the 7 button controller.. never really got the hang of it without Auto-scratch on.
I've never played the translated versions though, are they as tough as the NTSC-J ones?

This looks more realistic than the DJ Hero controller, but it remains to see if that equals more fun. This IS a videogame after all, and if GH thought us anything is that realism doesn't always equal more fun.

I have enough fun messing around with my VCI-100 SE, but I def wanna check this out.

How you liking it?
I ended up picking up the Numark NS7... SOLID piece of hardware.
After having the NS7 I believe Numark is on too something here.
Almost like having 1200s compared to NS7

1. Is the controller wireless?
2. Is the game going to have PSEye support, so gamers can battle each other face to face (or just the avatars)?

If yes to both of these, it could be a day one purchase...

Any of these peripherals these days should be wireless. Its bad enough its a big plastic thing...but to have to have a cable dragging all over the place would be a pain on top if all...especially when storing the thing.

The only peripherals I still see wired pretty much every time anymore are the fighting game joysticks.

no you have to ask is it Blue-tooth! i hated the USB donnguls you got with GH3

They just need to include MP3 turntable functionality for out of game use and it'll sell.

if you can upload your own music im definitely getting this... upload some orchard lounge and other crazy electronic music... guitar hero = the ghey

diggin the cross fader and its numark. has to be something for them to put their stamp on it

we all know what djs want these days and these controllers seem like the real deal

yeah my numark table at home is set up like this. its pretty realistic

I may not know how to play a guitar, but I'm sure as hell glad I already know how to spin. That thing looks whiggity-whiggity-whack!
