Tecmo has confirmed that Tecmo Bowl for Wii was put on hold and converted into Family Fun Football. A Tecmo rep informed G4 that "given the recent trend on the Wii and its target audience," Tecmo made a "business decision" to switch the Tecmo Bowl project into a "family oriented football game." For now, Tecmo Bowl for Wii is "indefinitely on hold."
However, there is good news for Xbox 360 owners, as a Tecmo Bowl for Xbox Live Arcade is in the works for early 2010. There are currently no details on the game, but there may be some information next week at E3. Wii owners who were looking forward to Tecmo Bowl for the console may want to pick up its second-cousin thrice removed: Family Fun Football.

I hope its the arcade version with HD graphics and online play. The NES version is great, but without the real players names and teams it's not the same.

It was the other way around. The arcade version was generic while the NES version had real names and teams. An updated version of Tecmo Super Bowl from NES and I wouldn't touch a $60 for the rest of the summer.

I know that, but any tecmo bowl made now won't have the real names and players because of the EA exclusive deal with the NFL. Thats why Tecmo bowl on the Wii virtual console is worthless. It has none of the players or team names. So, if it's going to be gerneric either way, i would rather have the arcade version. I still play it on MAME once in a while.

As long as you cant break tackles by standing still or take Bo Jackson up and down the field 3 times in one possession. lol.

That's a shame, they caved. I know this will probably get them more money but I was really looking forward to Tecmo Bowl on Wii.

That TECMO rep and others in this industry with this mindset will be kicking themselves once this generations of consoles are over thinking that this is the way to approach the Wii.
To see an intelligent way to approach the Wii please see High Voltage Software and Nintendo's own developers

Problem is Cody that they are doing this kind of game developing in full force and people are eating that crap up. I think his statement is pretty damn scary really. If developers get fully on board with that mind set then you will have no choice but to play all those kind of games or move to another console. Its pretty sad, but you have to recognize this is happening because Nintendo led the way.

Or this is their of saying, "Well you all wanted a new Tecmo Bowl game, we made you one on the DS and you didn't buy it, so fuck off we are going to make the Wii version a way that it will sell w/o you hypocrites getting in the way."
Btw, I actually like Kickoff.

I grow increasingly sad that the Tecmo Bowl franchise is becoming so irrelevant. I loved this series back in the day, but the revival just hasn't worked.
I blame EA and that damn NFL exclusivity contract. A retro-style Tecmo Bowl with current NFL teams would rule the universe.

There are sites online where you can get a hacked rom with current players and teams. They also have legends rosters and college versions. Then just grab NESticle (emulator) and play old school tecmo bowl with new rosters. I have them on my Palm phone with LittleBigJohn (emulator).

Yeah... a "trend" they call it. This "trend" is burying the Wii alive in shovelware. It's like if Next Level Games put Punchout!! on hold and moved to "Family Boxing Party: [Some Sub Title Involving Old People Playing]".
Tecmo needs to take priority. I mean, who is really foaming at the mouth over the release of another family game?
