Thanks to his or her flawless track record, when Ars Technica's mole speaks, we listen. So you'll understand why rumors of the PSP Go! and slim PS3 seem just a little more likely to us this morning. The mole says that (though it won't necessarily be announced at E3) the slimmer PS3 will arrive in August or September, after the regular-sized PS3s have dried up a skosh.
The mole's also pushing the PSP Go!, saying it will feature "lower power consumption and possibly a lower price." Read all of the shifty rodent's musings right here.

no because making a smaller one costs less. Less materials, smaller chips, less packaging = money saved.

i watched the infamous commercial playing here in the u.s. and at the very end where it usually says "only on PLAYSTATION 3" it said "only on PS3."
i don't know about you guys, but i think that's a big sign that at least the logo is changing.

This will give MS some time to come up with there own slim console. Believe me they really need it more than Sony, because there hardware sucks.

A slim PS3 should force a price drop on the old units to clear out any that remain in store inventories.

The card readers are honestly useless. They are nice but there is no weekly use for them. The backwards compatibility is amazing though. Still playing Guitaroo Man and still getting my ass handed to me.

3 frame input lag? On what?
I played GoW2 on PS3 and as long as I didn't try "HD mode" (which is faulty due to a fault in GoW2, not in PS3), it worked fine.

Slim PS3? Nice.
I don't have a PS3 yet, and the redesign looks nicer to me. But it will still take one of two things for Sony to get me to buy: either fix backwards compatability (probably not gonna happen) or drop the price. Here's hoping that a move to slim models will reduce manufacturing costs, and lead to a price cut 8-12 months later.
New PSP? Very nice.
Improved battery life is a huge plus. UMDs probably don't matter that much to me, although I will want to find out more before committing. Since I've already got a DS Lite, this might be a nice complement to that system.

@Mr. Joe
I saw that too, and told my girlfriend the same thing. They even had the old female robot "playstation" at the end.
They will likely not lower the price of existing models to clear them out. Every model that is no longer manufactured is still the same msrp. It is likely they have cut production on the non-slims and started to clear inventory out of warehouses. But this is of course, if any of this is true.

This is a very strange console war we having going on right now. Just take a step back and look at what's going on for a minute.
Could this be the generation where most gamers own all 3 consoles?!
Right now, I have a Wii and a 360, but I'm also interested in a PS3 if the price drops or there is a sweet bundle available. And I know I'm not alone in saying this either.

I'm right with you. Have a wii60 (though honestly, my Wii never gets played.) If there is a price drop, i would get the PS3 for the bluray and the exclusives.

I don't know about "most".
For my own part, I have a PS3 and there's a Wii in the house that isn't mine, but yeah.. not so sure.
I'm interested in the 360 but keep putting it off because of the impression of endemic hardware failure. I'd really like to try Gears someday though.
I think the impression that most gamers have all three may be bolstered slightly by all the lying kids who feel the need to insist they own all three consoles before spewing their insanely petty, frothing screeds in an attempt to establish detached credibility in the everlasting Conthole Warth. I know a lot of gamers are adults with jobs, but I'd like to hope there is minimal overlap between console ownership - the figures of unit sales for all consoles, with a context of high overlap, would imply console gaming is a far more fringe hobby than is often implied by popular culture. :P

I would buy a slim PS3 in a heart beat especially with a price drop or at least a slim bundle.

This will be $299 easy. Count on it.

Why would I buy a new slim PS3 when there are only like 3 games on the system that interest me? Better games please.

I was about to buy the Kratos PSP last summer but then the PSP 3000 was announced so I waited for it. After less than stellar reviews I decided to put off buying a PSP.
If the PSP Go is cheaper than the current PSP, or the current ones get a price drop after E3 I'll probably pick one up. I've had a DS since just after launch and I haven't bought a game since FF Tactics Advance 2 (bought it soon after release last summer, and the game before that was Rune Factory the summer prior) and there really isn't anything on the horizon that I want other than Phantasy Star 0 so a new handheld would be welcome.

DAMNIT! I was really hoping the new PSP would still play UMDs so I could trade mine in for a chunk of money off the new one. Oh well, I guess that means I'll have to mod mine again and revert it to a pre-Go! UDM-less machine (I really, really don't like carrying a handful of UMDs with me so I can pick which one I feel like playing a level of - here's lookin' at you Hammerin' Hero). Time to start saving money, I guess.
And yes, I do believe in the Mole. Hopefully Sony has been able to skim down production costs on the Big Boys enough to lower the price at E3 and let see like crazy for a couple months. Plus I'm tired of people giving me sh*t because I like the PS3s game better - maybe if they'd played some of them and took a break from Halo or L4D for a month they'd see why.

If this is true -- I definitely like the new design and logo/font for PS3. SPIDER-MAN3 obviously left a bad impression on many, so distancing itself from that is a plus. Pretty slick and sleek ... I can only hope it has a price drop attached. I wouldn't mind a second PS3 for the bedroom as my blu-ray player(and thus keep the 60GB all-purpose fatty in the entertainment/living room)... but man, my wallet can't take another $400+ dollar hit for a system right now. :\
