Do you just like to throw the word "mediocre" for any game that isn't your style? IMO Undisputed has been the closest to doing UFC any justice. I was pleasantly surprised by the level of intricate controls for almost every given situation.

THQ apologizes for not making quarter circle forward, to do fireballs.

Haha yeah Im like 3-0 online with Fedor! Some guy online was like, "how did you unlock Fedor?" I said I made him lmao! Did you see the Couture, Jon Jones, Bas Rutten, Randleman, Shamrock and Carwin? Great creations but it takes time so I'm making 1 everyday. I wish Joystiq would let us post html or url pics.

How is this a weak attempt by THQ? This is a first year game in a franchise that had one specific fighter left out because of technical issues. It obviously wasn't worth the dev costs to spend a ton of time trying to fix one problem. Hopefully they figure out a good solution for next year's game.

However, Clay was one of the top guys I wanted to play as, so don't think I wasn't disappointed about the new. But I understand and am not going to whine that THQ sucks over it.

Why doesn't anyone complain that they had to remove the southpaw stance as well for the same reason?

Great point. I've heard that is going to be fixed via patch but I don't really believe it. It's a shame but until my friend pointed out to me that Silva was fighting orthodox I didn't even notice. I know and I'll turn in my MMA geek card at the door. To me that is a really big deal and a much larger issue than the Guida thing.

I'm curious as to why Couture was omitted from the final roster. Maybe he was one of the few UFC fighters that wasn't required to sign away his likeness.

Now that Machida is LHW champion I wonder if they are going to patch in a pee drinking mini game.

Haha yeah, I read about that this weekend. They could patch that into Career mode right alongside sparring.

My guess for Couture was that they couldn't sign him when he left UFC for that year, decided not to put him in the game, then by the time he came back it was too late to add him in. Although they are adding Bader and Escudero in, so who knows, I could be 100% wrong on the time part. Could be the likeness issue then.

80+ fighters realistically recreated for UFC 2009 and suddenly THQ is LAZY for leaving out one?

Wow, just can't please whiners, huh?

Development Fail. That's probably the real reason their VP of Marketing left...they couldn't accept his long flowing locks either.

I heard this a while ago. I thought I read it on Joystiq. Maybe I read it on Giant Bomb. But yeah, sucks that Guida was cut from the game because of this.

This is part of what I find utterly ridiculous about this game and I'm glad at least some of the problems with Undisputed are beginning to get some coverage. There's the quitting problems then there's the issue of balancing realism with the fact that his is a video game.

Take for instance flash ko's or the fact that you can't do a fighter vs fighter match. Of course you can't because that wouldn't be realistic, however there are no southpaws in the game and no one can switch fighting stances. This was also another issue with the collision detection system. You see the same "hair" issues with fighter Evan Tanner, who at the time of his recent passing was sporting a sweet beard and regularly had long hair but not in this game, and with the create a fighter system.

I have 2 issues with the game. Quitting in ranked and the fact that someone can keep you in the mount postion over and over and over again without getting tired of blocking you when you try to transition.

There are players out there that only try to do this and thats stupid as hell. I'm like why are you even playing if your just going to do the same move? Yesterday I had someone quit on me on a player match right when I beat him. I sent him a message asking him why would he quit in A PLAYER MATCH?!! lmao! I love everything else about it. I love when someone is commited to mixing it up and the fight goes everywhere. Awesome stuff!

remember that article a while back saying they were using a new revolutionary engine for cloth and hair in the latest UFC game? What happened?

I think that was just for cloth not hair. The cloth does look really great though.

Funny enough, Guida was offered $10,000 by UFC President Dana White to cut his hair so he could be in the game. Guida refused to cut his locks though, claiming that they are part of his personality.

Kos' hair is just a little frizzy on top, Clay's flops around in front of his face. His hair would have to move to be in the game and if you punched his hair it would register a hit.

Overlooking the fact I don't care about UFC, I'll comment simply that I'm hoping the next iteration of consoles can handle...hair. *sigh*.

It's my old gripe, but yeah. Hair, wind, cloth, etc. Just real-world physics in general. Give me the real stuff in games already!

I guess it all depends on the engine and the priority of those effects to the designers. There are some games that do hair simulations really well so it's not like the consoles can't handle them. But, if you are looking for super realistic hair that is pretty much independent of each straind then you are going to be waiting for a while. I also can't wait for the true next big breakthrough in physics simulations. The graphics are getting there and eventually there will be a breakthrough in hair, skin, grass, sand etc etc.

I just don't think it's a big priority especially if the scope of the game is so large that other things take precedent. The game Flower had some really nice physics with the grass and stuff.

I did computer animation in college and just to model, animate and render that stuff out was very difficult so I could't imagine a rig that could handle that type of simulation in real time in game. But, I don't know much about game design other than a few characters and levels we created in college. My forte was more of compositing and video editing. Now I sell real estate ... go figure.

I'm just going to play Devils Advocate here. I know you think THQ sucks but lets look at the games you mentioned.

UFC Undisputed 85 metacritic average
Saints Row 1 has an 81 metacritic average
Saints Row 2 has an 82 metacritic average
Smackdown vs Raw 2009 has an 79 metacritic average
Legends of Wrestlemania has a 71 metacritic average

So, from that list all of their are above average except for one which is just below average. Sometimes perception is far worse than reality. Now, I haven't played the wrestling games so I cant speak about their quality but the other three games are quite good.

Wow...a very talented figher (and by far one of the most entertaining and energetic fighters to ever grace the octagon PERIOD) was cut because the developers can't program hair.

WEAK.

There are so many people in this topic who need to actually PLAY this game instead of being hypocrites by calling THQ lazy. UFC 2009 Undisputed has incredible gameplay and presentation, presentation which the company obviously didn't want to compromise whenever Guida enters the Octagon.

Some people claim they should just put the hair in and make his head the hitbox like everyone else, but that would result in this ridiculous looking mass of magic hair that transcends space by clipping through everything it touches.

Go out and play the game. See how well THQ handled the sport of UFC and how great the game looks and how well it does in replicating the experience of watching an actual fight, THEN come back and claim THQ is "lazy" for not putting Guida in. If you still complain, you're just an idiot who can't appreciate a game that's trying to do more than meet the status quo.
