So tired of hearing people talk smack about it. If you dont like it dont buy it. This year does however look and sound much more promising than recent years.

EA sports has said the same thing every year since they started doing "next gen" version of madden starting with that liar David Ortiz claiming "you can see the seat in the stadium". what i don't get is, if EA is so upset about all the criticism they are getting why don't they just make a better game, that would shut up all the complainers. In fact all they have to do is remake Madden 2007 the PS2 version with some pretty graphics and that would be enough to get my money again.

My point exactly, you will never understand it, because you simply dont get it. I see you didnt respond to my challenge. Scared? Dont get so upset over someone voicing their opinions, you may end up looking like a sissie. Wait, too late for that. Also, the image you conjured up in your feeble mind is far from what I look like. My Myspace is also verymetal. I am the one with Linda Blair (exorcist) in the main picture. I call it a mans game, because only men will be able to understand what I mean by that statement. Name one football team that uses the exact same defence on every down, and uses no huddles on every down. You cant do it because a football team never does that. I rarely lose to sissies that play like that. These are the people you are obviously standing up for. It just makes the experiance dreadful, and it really should teach sissies like that a lesson, but this rarely happens. Why? Because, the Captain Planets of the world who look to undermine and ruin a truly great online gaming experiance for others think they have the last laugh.

See you keep using the word sissie to describe me and "others like me". If we were talking about REAL football, you know away from your living room (or in your case, your mother's basement), I would probably be offended. But again, for the 28th bloody time, this is a VIDEOGAME.

BTW, real men don't have MySpace (especially with Linda Blair as their default pic).

And real men spell experiEnce with and "e" not and "a".

Regarding your challenge, sure I'll [whoop] play you in some Madden. But you have to play me in a game of Chess, time control match, touch rules. That is of course if your head hasn't exploded from reading that.

Captain Planet you wish I were those things you think I am. The Mans game statement was used to spark a response and drive my point across, but you just like to attack people in their statements and that really gets old. You shouldn't be commenting on a subject you obviously dont understand. Adapting to madden styles that dont make sense, is exactly that, It doesnt make sense to adapt to a style that doesnt exist in the real world. I play straight in Madden, but can cheese play with the best of them. My record is 315 wins and 200 losses. What is your record? Also, I think my spelling is ok, I have scene a lot worse. To point that out just shows that your grabbing at anything to win an argument, where any sane gamer can see what I am talking about. A true man can still play video games, and have his hobbies as well as take care of his responsibilites. It seems the people that have a problem with that statement dont know what it is to be a man.

I only pointed out your spelling error to "spark a response and drive my point across" as well. I guess it worked.

I'm done trying to have this conversation with you. You are THE biggest hypocrite I've seen on this blog. You say attacking people in their statements gets old yet you called everyone who doesn't play by the same rules as you, a "sissy" in almost every single one of your replies.

Ouch. This article sounds like the 12yo kids who post childishly negative comments about Madden all day long without much thought or understanding OR research. And it also sounds like the EA bias I just talked about yesterday on another site. Pathetic that a "grown up" would act this way then post an article about it.

Now, that said, I can understand the frustrations with the yearly Maddens and even I, for the life of me, couldn't understand how EA would come out with new, dumb, features for Madden instead of fixing the core football game issues and adding some good presentation on top, to boot. However, I got my grown man on and thought about how it must be easier to add on than tear down and fix programming issues that could break the whole game or take more time than they had to be able to fix them since the game is released every year. I gave them that through the PS2 cycle but when it came to the current gen, I had to think even differently - New hardware that they gotta get used to. I expected code porting early on but now they seem to be on to something.
I've been following the Madden blogs this year since they first started posting them weekly and I have to say that I am impressed. They are really putting in the effort to make the core game of football finally worth more than they did, before. No stupid new features that no one really wants to use. I give them credit like a mature adult. Why can't u, Mr. Uber Critical?

"Will Madden execute the ultimate highlight on the next play? Or just throw away the ball?"

Am I the only one who's tired of seeing these awful cliches in every article about a sports game?

I swear if I hear about one more game that's a "touchdown", "slam dunk", or "fumble" I'm going to lose it.

You know what I'd like to see in Madden, them fix the engine.

One of my biggest problems with the game that has been there ever since they went to a 3D engine is the magic football that either goes straight through defenders's hands, or moves around them. The collision detection for the football is horrible. There's also the issue of suction blocking where two players are magnetically drawn together regardless of their momentum or direction.

Also, get rid of the dang coach's challenge. Without an accurate physics engine, and a referee who can get the call right 100% of the time, it's completely worthless and unnecessary. Don't make the refs get a random call wrong just so you can add a "feature." The NFL would not have instant replay if the refs could get every call 100% correct on the first try, so why put it in the game?

And finally, bring back the old play calling menu. Give me two rows and three columns worth of plays and let me press one of three buttons to choose the corresponding play. Scrolling through the plays one at a time takes way too long. And holding a trigger button to get this functionality isn't a solution, just make it a menu option.

Eh, what do I care. After a one year hiatus I bought 09 after hearing good things about it only to realize that it still sucks. The Madden IQ was a complete joke, and the engine still had horrible physics and collision detection. I don't think I'll ever buy another Madden. Sad as I used to take Madden day off every year.

Joystiq its kind of disappointing listening to you guys talk about Madden. If you compare what Madden does year to year compared to any other sports game you will see that they change the most every year. The Show was praised this year for being a great with little changes done to it but everyone screams at Madden for whatever they do.
Madden of lately have not been great, but they have put allot of changes into it. This year is going to be the biggest (you would know if you follow the developers on their blogs). So I'm going to give this one a chance and hope for the best.

Playstation Home has chess right? Im up for a good game of chess anyday. Let me ask you this? Lets say you are playing online with someone and their pawn moves two spaces forward and two to the left. Would you understand that? Same thing in MADDEN. That is my point.

Your point is stupid because pawns don't move to the left. That's what you call an illegal move.

I have played sissie spineless cowards in madden that cheese and do illegal moves and still get away with it. Example? Try playing someone that audibles constantly at the line of scrimmage and then the ball magically appears in a receivers hand. Its the same damn point I am making. I agree with you about Chess, I actually consider that one of the best brain challenging games ever. War generals use strategies that mimic chess moves. How cool is that? But, I guess if you played someone online in Chess and they did glitches or illegal moves, you would just say "its only a videgame." I highly doubt it. See, I love Madden, I am very passionate about it, have been since the Genesis. So, when I see people that dont Man up and have their plays go against my plays like its supposed to be played that is where the term spineless cowards and mans game come from.

Are you fucking stupid?

The ENTIRE FUCKING BASIS OF YOUR SHIT BRAINED ARGUMENT WAS ABOUT SOMETHING THAT WAS INTENTIONALLY PUT IN THE FUCKING GAME BECAUSE IT CAN AND HAS BEEN DONE IN REAL FUCKING FOOTBALL BUT YOU DON'T LIKE IT BECAUSE IT'S NOT "MANLY".

Your argument was about people constantly using no huddle and hurry ups now your changing it to cheating/glitching, something that isn't part of the real game? You dumb fucking dolt, no huddle/hurry ups ARE NOT CHEATING NOR IS IT GLITCHING. Just because you can't adapt to it, all of a sudden, fuckadoodledoo, it's cheating.

" Despite its massive following, Joystiq has largely treated the series as uninteresting. Year in, year out, the process has grown mechanical: the annual announcement, followed by details of game enhancements, and then, of course, a look at those supposedly cursed cover athletes. Then, silence. The game's released. A few months later, news of its sales dominance. Rinse. Repeat."

That's exactly how I view the "hot new" FPSes. Minus the cover athlete part, of course.

all they need to do is add a 7 on 7 mode. That way you don't have to worry about playing a lineman for 60 min. Make it a 30 min game and people could play more matches and add an exp bar so you don't keep playing people that stomp you 20 times in a row.

Verymetal & Captain Planet...

You both have good arguments. You both have a point. And your posts have been entertaining.

Yes, to adapt to Madden's virtual-football game-style and dominate by taking advantage of it is legit. It is what the game offers.

And yes, to want Madden to punish players for making the game one-dimensional because Madden allows it, that makes sense as well.

The commenter on the first page who said, make the game react dynamically, that's the key, I think. Then, a good player could punish the one-dimensional player using the game's own engine, instead of needing the game to restrict playstyles. It seems Madden is far away from that scenario.

I remember the original Madden, the deep post pass was almost unstoppable.

My friend would use it, but hated it when I used it. I said fine, let's outlaw that play. He said no, just don't use it 'that much.' But obviously that doesn't work as a game rule.

So I would basically run the same play all the time, if I actually cared about winning that game. I was happy to outlaw the play (that was actually my preference), but otherwise you generally play a game to win within the established rules and gameplay.

Point taken and well stated. I started off the post strong, because I understand the game of football and know how it is played. Never in the history of the sport has any team ran no huddles the entire time, nor did a team ever run the same exact defense everytime. Now, Captain Idiot thinks that I cant play against players that do this. That is not true at all, my record and stats speak for themeselves. It is an insult to me when players play this way, it is a total lack of respect within the dynamics of football. Basically, I hate playing retards or what I like to say is spineless cowards. They know exactly what they are doing and how they play.

Great Article!!!

I was a 2K fan. I was one of the 3-5 that received a beta CD from Beta 7. I find myself shaking my head every year when I see madden announce some great new feature that was in 2K so many years ago.

For instance, cut scenes, in game cinema...guess what? 2k had that a long time ago, and I get pissed off every time I think how great NFL 2K would be if they had all these years to improve on it. I think EA knew 2K had a great platform to build on, and that's why they stamped them out. That's why I don't buy Madden. I refuse to support their Monopoly, and lucky for me their game has blew the past few years. Last year was horrible!

I hope someday the NFL pulls their heads out of their asses, and lets other companies compete. I really wish Microsoft would just buy 2K, so they could release NFL 2K as a first party title, and the NFL license deal would be bypassed.

It's sad that so many people truely believe that there are better ways to present a simulation football game. Football is a sport. The game designer is grounded in the laws of physics, the real world, and most importantly the rules of the game. Sorry, but football doesn't have energy swords and crazy, white haired hero wanna-be's. I've had no problems with any of the Madden games because they do the job they intended to do. Allow me to play on my favorite team, or against my favorite team, eventhough I am not good enough in real life to be able to do so. Every year is an improvment to the game regardless of what other people say.

I've noticed that the people that have the problems with Madden tend to be the same people that DON'T LIKE SPORTS GAMES because they are all the same. Well if you don't like sports or sports games then...don't play them and don't complain that someone else likes these types of games!

When it comes to 2K sports games, ha ha ha. They were a was of money then and will still be a waste of money if they attempted a revival unless they can keep up with EA. 2K Sports did have some flashed of light, but the only reason any of the games recieved posative reviews is because it was not Madden. People got board of seeing a good game prosper and, well just like in our news, posative new equals boring...bad news equals exciting. What is more exciting to people? Saying that a game is doing great and is adding on to what it has previously done or bashing the game in hopes that someone will come up with something else that one can cling onto because it isn't what is already good. WOW that reminds me of those music people who said Fall Out Boy sold out because they got popluar and they no long are good artists because they aren't "underground" anymore.

Gamers expect far to much fro simulation games. A simulation is an attempt to copy real life and a lot of the gamers around the world want to escape realitly. So a game that mimics realitly is not fun for them. So they must get rid of them because...well I don't know why! Play the games you like and leave other people alone to play the games they like!
