No...no I'm not ready to spend extra money for a ps1 game just because it's a bigger name than the other ones on the store. I'm not giving into that nickel and diming.
Levi @ May 28th 2009 11:30PM
It's not nickel and diming, tool, it's a great game being offered in a downloadable service that isn't in print anymore. How the fuck is that nickel and diming? Why must you people complain about EVERYTHING here??
tmacairjordan87 @ May 28th 2009 11:32PM
It's nickel and diming because it's more expensive than the other ps1 games, but for no other reason than because it's a more famous game. You can give into that if you want, but if you buy 5 ps1 games at that inflated price you could have gotten 3 regular priced ps1 games with that extra $20.
Levi @ May 28th 2009 11:54PM
It surprises you that an extremely popular title costs more than the crap they're putting out for PS1 classics?I don't know about everyone else, but I think that RE:DC is worth four bucks more than R-Types or Jumping Flash.
Seriously, this attitude will just lead to calling everything nickel and diming. It's so annoying. Just stop complaining.
tmacairjordan87 @ May 28th 2009 11:58PM
And your attitude will ensure that everything WILL be nickel and dimed.
"Bah, what's an extra 2 or 3 bucks here and there!"
Sheppy (of the Fidlious Clan of Wong) @ May 29th 2009 12:21AM
Nothing is worth more than Jumping Flash....
ryan @ May 29th 2009 12:25AM
Yeah, I see where you're coming from, but if you look everywhere else the rare games like this are usually $15-$20 and up.
Vidikron @ May 29th 2009 3:14AM
I'm with Tmac on this one. It's a bit ridiculous that they want $4 more than the other PSOne game. Sure, it's a classic, but not worth a 67% price hike. And I don't care if the game is rare to find in disc format, that has nothing to do with a digital copy. Digital copies aren't rare, they're infinite.
@Levi
"Seriously, this attitude will just lead to calling everything nickel and diming. It's so annoying. Just stop complaining."
No, what is going to happen is what we've already seen on XBLA. Remember when most games were coming out at 400 MS points? Now the base price these days seems to be 800 MS points. We had a few games that suddenly charged 1500 MS points then the price of most new games after that point went from 400 to 800. A few games raised the bar then everyone else followed in their wake and 800 is the new 400. That is my real fear here.
Vidikron @ May 29th 2009 3:17AM
Oops, that should say 1200 MS points, not 1500. 1200 MS points = $15.
Feba @ May 29th 2009 4:13AM
Who's to say that the more expensive prices aren't the default, and the cheaper ones are discounted?
I mean, really, you go to any retail outlet, you're going to find budget titles and games which were unpopular selling quite a bit cheaper than games which sold well. Older, worse movies are cheaper than newer, better ones. Same with albums. What's so shocking about that?
lordwindowlicker @ May 29th 2009 8:01AM
Eh, there might be more to it than that. How much did it cost Sony to license the game for download... Not all games are created equal because they're built for the same console. I'm not saying that's the case, but things aren't always as they seem.
To the guy who said that R-Types isn't worth they money (Trash, was it?)... yeah, hang your head.
Vidikron @ May 29th 2009 3:35PM
@Feba
"I mean, really, you go to any retail outlet, you're going to find budget titles and games which were unpopular selling quite a bit cheaper than games which sold well. Older, worse movies are cheaper than newer, better ones. Same with albums. What's so shocking about that?"
OK, three things. First, in your example you're dealing with physical items. Older popular items tend to be hard to find and thus more expensive. Less popular items just take up shelf space and represent unrealized profits since the retailer had to buy the item in the first place. So it makes sense to lower the price just to get them out of inventory. This doesn't really apply to a digital copies which aren't rare and are essentially distributed for free (i.e. copies are free to produce and there's no such thing as unsold stock).
Second, we're talking about pretty old games which have long ago made their developers money when they were intially sold. I'm not saying they don't deserve any profits for these digital sales, but come on... why try to stick it to us now for what is basically free for them to copy and distribute now? It's nearly all pure profit at this point. They're just gouging us.
Third, did you read my post above? It's a bit of a fantasy to think that only the AAA classics will see these higher prices. We've already seen on XBLA where once a few games sold at higher prices then almost all the games sell at higher prices now... even the crappy ones. Some arcade games, like Arkanoid, pull BS like selling you half the game and then once you get half way through ask if you want to buy the second half. That's bullshit and it's the kind of stuff you get if you let a few titles get away with such stunts. Everyone else follows and then try something even worse. People should resist moves like this to avoid it becoming the standard in the future.
Levi @ May 28th 2009 11:28PM
dude, this update took WAY too long. Seriously, what are they doing that they can't get these updates out at a reasonable time?
Sly (The Cake in fact, is NOT a lie) [PSN SniperChameleon] @ May 28th 2009 11:35PM
what's with the late update?
tmacairjordan87 @ May 28th 2009 11:36PM
A good rumor I heard was that it was being held back by the GTTV show on spike, thinking there was some sort of surprise announcement.
But as we're seeing that's not the case. So I have no idea.
Sly (The Cake in fact, is NOT a lie) [PSN SniperChameleon] @ May 28th 2009 11:38PM
sweet, the psp gets a yuusha demo! the japanese one was awesome but had a lot of text. now that i can understand it, it's perfect. and i'll get the crash commando demo because i've heard good things about it. decent update overall.
Sly (The Cake in fact, is NOT a lie) [PSN SniperChameleon] @ May 28th 2009 11:39PM
hmm, tmac, that would have made sense if there was something to show for it. there are some nice demos, but that's basically it. you would think they would step it up this close to E3.
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ May 28th 2009 11:40PM
Well they WERE doing good with the update going up by 6 the last few weeks....NOW they wanna way til 11EST....CRAZY!!!
I'm good tho...I was too busy playin iinFamous to care about the store update...lol
Eric E @ May 29th 2009 9:59AM

Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ May 28th 2009 11:47PM
I was playing the Ds version, stupid rebirth mode.I skip a single memo and now I have to back track for a full hour, seriously I already know hwere is the friggin emblem why do I need the memo for?
JDHexen @ May 28th 2009 11:47PM
They sure took their sweet time with this update and I see that RE is getting special treatment. So I guess that mgs1 will be $15 and FF will be $20 then...whatever floats their boat,Guess I'll try CC before I buy it.
thetveye @ May 29th 2009 1:29PM
Um...actually they will also be ten bucks. Sony's charging ten bucks for the games they have to get the most information on, like Symphony of the Night. Most Japanese games on the store will be ten bucks.
bluenocturnex @ May 28th 2009 11:51PM
inFamous is great! throwing a few charged lightning bolts into a group of thugs glide in and pounce force throw a few more thugs roll gracefully out of danger, and scale up a a tall building and repeat. but wheres MvsC2, wasn't it supposed to come out on this update?
OLDMIKE @ May 29th 2009 12:00AM
looks sad to me was hopeing for some Pre E3 junk
as for the GTTV show only thing mite be the madden 10 stuff
not seen the PS3 vid so no idea if the co-op is in it
fact the only good thing in the GTTV show was the ME2 info
tmacairjordan87 @ May 29th 2009 12:05AM
Yeah, SHEPARD LIVES BITCHES!!! (as if there was anyone who actually thought he'd be dead)
Also, what little of the new ratchet was shown looked pretty awesome. Looks like they changed the look of it slightly, as in it looked like it had a tiny bit of cel shading in it.
The new bethesda game trailer was...disappointing. Pretty much the only thing we learned about it was that it's not the wii game they supposedly are making.
OLDMIKE @ May 29th 2009 12:20AM
just was not that good of a show lots of games but little info
Xplay thou hated by many here is better as far for info
Ballard @ May 29th 2009 12:00AM
no PSN games???? where's trash panic
CzAr @ May 29th 2009 12:08AM
Playstation Blog announced it was coming this week... wtf.
I can't wait for this game anymore...!!!
Yingerman @ May 29th 2009 12:06AM
I was watching Yes Man, it finished right when it updated. I like the ending the best :)
HDpurist @ May 29th 2009 12:12AM
I played RE1 on my PSP over a year ago...just recently uploaded an ISO of RE3 Nemesis on my PSP.
Kimberlin @ May 29th 2009 12:18AM
just to let everyone saying $9.99 is to much for RE and no reason to be higher must not have noticed that Castlevania SoTN is also a PS1 game for $9.99 and be up for download for over a year.
Sheppy (of the Fidlious Clan of Wong) @ May 29th 2009 12:24AM
Bitches gotta complain, period. Saddest part is most of them will flick the finger at Sony instead of Capcom who said "we think this is WORTH $10."
tmacairjordan87 @ May 29th 2009 12:28AM
But it's Sony who gives the final say on what the price will be. Someone from Capcom confirmed that on their boards.
Also, as for Castlevania. That's also a big name PS1 classic so it just feeds into the theory they're overcharging just because more people want the best of the best. I rag on nintendo a lot, but they stick by their standard pricing for the marios and zeldas on VC.
Sheppy (of the Fidlious Clan of Wong) @ May 29th 2009 12:47AM
And yet they charge a premium for the rare imports... YAY Nintendo, I'd gladly pay that $12 for Sin & Punishment. Nintendo never charges for a premium release at all....
mvp576 @ May 29th 2009 12:34AM
IS this resident evil directors cut have the LIVE ACTION cut scenes?
Rai @ May 29th 2009 12:34AM
RE: Director's Cut is 600Y on the Japanese store, which is their normal price for all PSN games. Charging premium price only in the west? No thanks..
Capcom did the same thing with the RE5 DLC, charged double the price in the west just because we're more likely to pay for it.
Jonathan @ May 29th 2009 2:45AM
So you're saying that Capcom has successfully segmented their customer base in order to increase their revenues? What a horrible business model! They'll be failing very soon!
Tep @ May 29th 2009 12:35AM
Boy I sure do love being able to pop in a PS1 game I own and convert it for free on my hacked psp.
V1L3 @ May 29th 2009 1:12AM
It's great, isn't it?
If only everyone would learn that pirating games is the only way to go.
I mean... Imagine the awesome games we could all get for free if none of us paid for them?
altctrlpwn @ May 29th 2009 1:30AM
"If only everyone would learn that pirating games is the only way to go.

learn to read, guy; this is what he said
" . . . pop in a PS1 game I own and convert it for free . . . "
i'd love to play FF7/FF8 on my PSP without using Remote Play, but . . . PSP3000 . . . ah well
D-Train1183 @ May 29th 2009 1:45AM
How?
Dan Davis @ May 30th 2009 4:05AM
"If only everyone would learn that pirating games is the only way to go."
Kind of a grey area there. According to the EFF, "Sony has used DMCA to sue competitors who created emulation software that permits gamers to play PlayStation console games on PCs. In 1999, Sony sued Connectix, the maker of the Virtual Game Station, a PlayStation emulator for Macintosh computers. Sony also sued Bleem, the leading vendor of PlayStation emulator software for Windows PCs.
In both cases, Sony claimed that competitors had violated the DMCA by engaging in unlawful circumvention, even though the development of interoperable software has been recognized by the courts as a fair use under copyright law. Because courts have suggested that the DMCA trumps fair use, however, the DMCA has become a new legal weapon with which to threaten those who rely on reverse engineering to create competing products.
Neither Connectix nor Bleem were able to bear the high costs of litigation against Sony and pulled their products off the market. No similar emulation products have been introduced, effectively forcing gamers to use Sony console hardware if they want to play the PlayStation games they have purchased."
Jonathan @ May 29th 2009 2:43AM
Wait a second! Are you guys tryin to tell me that companies charge more money for the things that people want more? Who would have thought?!?!
Vidikron @ May 29th 2009 3:23AM
Too bad I don't want it for $10.
Jonathan @ May 29th 2009 4:07AM
Hey man, I got good news for you. When you think something costs too much, you DON'T have to buy it!!!
To Capcom, everyone that buys it for $10 counts as two people who would have bought it at $5.
Vidikron @ May 29th 2009 3:33PM
Hey,if you want to support this bullshit go ahead. Then I hope you enjoy when this price point becomes the standard for more and more games in the future. As I said in my post at the top, we've seen it happen on XBLA because too many dipshits won't resist it. We'll have people like you to thank for the needlessly higher prices of games that long ago made their profits and essentially cost nothing to distribute digitally today.
Hemi @ May 29th 2009 2:47AM
Is silent hill back in the store? To my knowledge it got pulled after a bugreport.
Kyle Nichol @ May 29th 2009 3:14AM
Silent Hill was pulled a day after sale either because of a graphical glitch caused by the emulation or Sony jumped the gun by releasing it before Konami wanted to. I've almost lost all hope for the European PSN when it comes to PSone Classics...
Butler @ May 29th 2009 6:13AM
I agree Kyle, one of the only PS1 games I bought was Spyro 2 which was taken down because it had game stopping glitches in it. Now all we get are crappy titles from EA. Give us Resident Evil and Spyro SCEE!!!
But hey, what did you expect really. It took over over a year and a half to realise that a blog would be good for Europe too.
Akira @ May 29th 2009 4:33AM
Europeans settle for Silent Hill? Silent Hill was removed from the store ages ago we don't even have that anymore.
