Since seeing the new Star Trek I've become a total Trekkie so this is exciting.

After watching TNG and VOY, I have to say that I don't think the movie is reflective on the actual setting of modern Star Trek, since this MMO is based a long time after any ST series...

The new Star Trek is a total reboot. They've wiped out all the bad pudgy actors and stupid costumes from its history.

I bet the Star Trek Online equivalent of a potion is Earl Grey (hot).
LaughingTarget @ May 29th 2009 8:19PM
I would definitely enjoy seeing player splash Earl Grey over the hull of their ships and have it repair instantly.

I still don't like the idea of everyone getting his own starship to fly around in, and I'm not sure how an MMO set in a post-currency future would play out.
To me you would need to make starships what they are in the series--flying cities. This could be good, but I have quite a few doubts.

I'm sure they'll just replace money with systems many MMORPGs already have... bartering items for other items is an obvious one. Crafting things others want in exchange for items you can't make yourself, etc.
Vanguard has an interesting system for handling what it calls "diplomacy". Say the right things (the system is more or less random) and you can get what you're trying to...
They have a lot of options there. I think that's what I'd be least worried about, but you never know.

I think the KOTOR MMO will shit all over this.
LaughingTarget @ May 29th 2009 11:40PM
Two different things entirely. Star Trek is about blowing things up with your ship and beaming down onto planets in colorful onesies. KOTOR is about 10,000 Jedi running around beating on animals while you, the only sane person, actually picks something else and beats up a ton of Jedi because it is fun to beat up Jedi.

good.
this summer, im watching seasons 1-3 of the original series on youtube
Bpops @ May 30th 2009 3:33AM
Just so you know, that's ALL of the original series.
Shmil @ May 30th 2009 6:26PM
Just so you know the original series is kinda a joke compared to the movies and TNG. Really just be warned you're in for a lot of cheese.
captain underpants and the bringdown gang @ May 30th 2009 9:04AM
I just want to customize my ship, bet no one will mess with me and my 10 story Spinners.
I can even see the conversation now...
Gangsta wanna-be's: yo man, check dis sh** out, I got me thirty-fo'z on my ryde.
Me: oh yeah? I've got... twelve hundeds on my ride.
arrness @ May 30th 2009 6:34PM
