Best Buy steals exclusive rights to sell CrimeCraft, THQ distributing
Hey, you there. Want a copy of Vogster's upcoming MMO CrimeCraft? You'd best get in line at Best Buy then, as Big Download reports that Vogster has made a deal with THQ to distribute the game exclusively to the big box retailer. The game will be available both in-store and on Best Buy's website. Players will be rewarded with two months of free play and some in-game shirts from "acclaimed real-world fashion labels" just for purchasing the game. If that still isn't enough to make you feel special, those who pre-order the title will also get an exclusive pair of in-game Ecko kicks (that's street for "shoes," we think), access to the ongoing beta and access to the retail game a full three days early.
The rest of us normal folk can pick up the game (only at Best Buy, remember) when it releases on August 25.

Well uh, if I was ever going to buy it, now I won't/can't. Good move guys.

Why can't you get it via digital distro?
Ihavepants @ May 29th 2009 4:21AM
You can only register a Best Buy account if you live in the USA, I and the rest of the world who do not live in USA, do not live in USA.

How much is all this extra stuff going to cost me.
I would buy it for the shirt and some sweet kicks lol
Pzychotix @ May 29th 2009 12:30AM
Does anyone even know if this game is worth it?
The premise sounds pretty interesting, and access to the beta sounds like a good deal, but last time I bought an MMO, it turned out to be Age of Conan, a piece of crap.

Everyone who beta tests had to sign an NDA, so they can't tell you.

And now no one will play it.
CH3BURASHKA @ May 29th 2009 12:36AM
I thought it was a downloadable client game...

I try to always buy games new to support the publisher.
Sorry THQ, but you just lost my money. I just almost spent $50 for a new copy of Path of the Furon - $15 on eBay is easier on my wallet anyway.
Shame on Joystiq for being stoked and not calling the industry out on this kind of store exclusivity BS.
Richard Mitchell @ May 29th 2009 8:39AM
That's funny, I don't remember being stoked about it when I wrote it...
Maybe I was too stoked to notice.

lol, let's cover our tracks with semantics!

Id buy the game if it was free to play, no way am I going to pay a monthly fee and then be charged of add-ons. This game seems like it barely fulfills the need for a crime related MMO and is doing nothing but capitalizing on the WoW subscription and the shitty games that charge for clothes and the like success.
Ceora @ May 29th 2009 10:47AM
Don't get me wrong I think that having this sold at one retail outlet is probably the dumbest shit imaginable (durr hurr I'm a game company who wants to limit my subscriber base to people who shop at Best Buy) but you seem to really miss the point of subscription based MMOs and are the same type who turn around and complain at the lack of content. Subscription based MMOs have more money to throw around which in turn means more content over a shorter term. If you don't want to pay then you are pretty much stuck with what free gets you.
Charging for in-game items that have no bearing on your characters abilities or the game itself is really pointless to argue. All it does is add another layer of customization if people want to pay for it.

i was looking forward to this, i would of thought they only have the us rights, not globally plus wont thq/vogster sell it on there site seen as how they own it.
Geoff Gibson @ May 29th 2009 12:07PM
All I gotta say is, if your really wanting a crime-based MMO why not just wait for APB?
Kokomadeta @ May 29th 2009 7:23PM
F that. I won't be buying anything from Best Buy so long as I can help it. A game I might have tried (mainly because it sounds so dumb) will not be played now.
Screw Best Buy.
