Though the premise given through voice over in the trailer (after the break) comes off a bit hammy, we'll forgive it for the range of spectacle drizzled throughout the gameplay. Unfortunately it looks like we won't be playing Split/Second until 2010 according to the trailer, but hopefully we'll get to check it out next week at E3!
Beware of falling buildings in Split/Second's first gameplay

Of the many trailers shown on tonight's GameTrailers TV, Split/Second stands out as the only one where gameplay involves avoiding a plane landing in front of you at high speed. And that makes it all the more exciting! From Blackrock Studios, the company whose prez said this game would refresh the 'dying' racing genre, we were already wondering if the next racer after Pure could be even better.

Or wait until they translate the code to human language.

These guys sure have revitalized the very stale and tired racing genre. First with Pure and now with Split Second, good time to be a racing fan.

Anyone else think this will have I'm-out-the-first-ten-seconds-so-&$%^-it syndrome?

I hope they localise this properly. If I have to keep listening to the announcer telling me that the 'rowt' just changed rather than the 'root', it could get rather irritating.

Must be a dialectical thing even within the US, because I pronounce it as "root" as well (and I'm from Pittsburgh), but the pronunciation that rhymes with "out" is also acceptable. For further contrast, the famous song "Route 66" (written by American Bobby Troup in 1946) pronounces the word as rhyming with "suit" or "fruit".
Still, what always bugs me is hearing "lift" (in reference to "elevators") out of supposedly American characters. Tell you what, Rob: I'll ask DIS nicely about "route" if you talk to John Barrowman about working on his vocabulary. Do we have a deal?

as cool as it looks it will get old within two plays
unless players are controlling what happens it will just be repeative
'o this is the part where a plane comes crashing down, so i'll go here where it never hits...'

PURE is fun so I expected this to be and from that video it looks like it will. What a crazy but logic addition to racing challenges. This kind of inventiveness should spread across the industry.

Disney is hitting hard and hitting fast. First Pure and now this game? It looks awesome. That track being detroyed around you and you have to think fast (hense the name I suppose). Keep 'em coming!

wow you guys really dont listen or read about a game before you post comments...
THEY ARE PLAYER CONTROLLED, all of the big crap happening is triggered by the drivers whenever they want.

Even so, aren't they all going to be the same thing triggered at the same place every time? So that plane crashing down is going to be triggered on the same spot every time?
