Dragon Age Originates October 20

Along with the announcement, EA released a trailer for the RPG that should help answer the question of how BioWare plans to differentiate its game from the Lord of the Rings property: by being totally metal. Not just in terms of music ... or armor, but the brutality and the feel of the trailer make it look rather like the kind of album cover Brütal Legend is emulating. Most people would have just pushed a door open, but the flaming sword/glowing eyes flourish makes the act of door-opening so much more badass. The trailer is available after the break.

wow, awesome, I didn't expect it to make this year
Averna @ May 29th 2009 11:52AM
Same, I figured mid 2010 (calender)
I'm so wetting myself over this!
baby sea tuna @ May 29th 2009 10:30AM
So, this is definitely coming to consoles then?
tmacairjordan87 @ May 29th 2009 10:33AM
Yes, but I think after the PC version comes out. I'll patiently wait for it though.
baby sea tuna @ May 29th 2009 10:47AM
Cool. I don't mind waiting either, since I don't have a PC that'll run it anyway.
DaveMcRae the Haiku Artist @ May 29th 2009 11:16AM
Evil monsters loom
Dragon Age is coming soon
will you be ready?
baby sea tuna @ May 29th 2009 11:21AM
Now *that's* what I'm talking about!
iamthestatic @ May 29th 2009 2:24PM
Shoot. If the console version comes out after the PC version that's gonna be a tough decision for me. I always default to console, but if I gotta wait..... man, I dunno.
Ihavepants @ May 30th 2009 5:07AM
No both versions were delayed to meet quality standards so now the PC, PS3 and 360 versions will simultaneously release come October 20.
Ihavepants @ May 30th 2009 5:08AM
But the console versions will not have access to the Toolset or the ability to use mods from the PC version.
Storm Eagle @ May 29th 2009 10:32AM
Now that is some demon-slayin music! \m/ They should make the whole game's soundtrack like that.
Demaar @ May 29th 2009 11:41AM
I'd rather listen to music composed for the game, but if they chuck together a soundtrack of random chart stuff they think is brutal, I'll just listen to my own, thanks.
Storm Eagle @ May 29th 2009 11:46AM
If they can somehow meld classical themes and death/heavy metal for the games soundtrack....I think that would be pretty epic.
Mazrael @ May 29th 2009 2:55PM
There's lots of metal out there with classical elements.. Dimmu Borgir & Cradle of Filth have both worked with orchestra's.. then there's folk metal where some use classical instruments in the bands line up like Korpiklaani, Finntroll.. they could maybe use they're music, take out the vocals for the mainstream people..

I guess you've figured out by now that it doesn't accept emoticon hearts.
Also, you should keep writing haiku...or change your name back. It's false advertising.

I

... give up.
Last try:
"I love Bioware. But I am worried about them. The dialogue system and controls in Mass Effect really brought the genre forward a huge step. And now from videos and screens it appears that the controls of DA go back to being unwieldy. That trailer is strange for a fantasy game.
and why the *** make the next old Republic game a MMO? : ((((
On the plus side, they never made a bad game, and the "dark" atmosphere seems really promising!"

Pretty awesome looking trailer, hope we get armor like that in the game, but what's with the music? Was that Marilyn Manson?
Ryan @ May 29th 2009 11:09AM
Sounds like.
Billop @ May 29th 2009 11:10AM
"This Is The New Shit" by Marilyn Manson
Mazrael @ May 29th 2009 2:49PM
I wasn't the only one to spot it then :D
Avatar (Steam: tmawds) @ May 29th 2009 4:57PM
I think the first riff that was playing was from "If I Was Your Vampire" also by Marylin Manson.
Arnie @ May 29th 2009 10:45AM
It would actually be better to buy it on the PC IMO. The tool set which ships with the game is just really really awesome and the same one used to make the game. Also, it will be cheaper and will look better if you have the right PC.
The Dark Wayne @ May 29th 2009 10:56AM
it will be on the PC, same day and date if im correct
Hippoeater @ May 29th 2009 10:50AM
so is it an mmo or a single player action/rpg?
Lennoko @ May 29th 2009 10:54AM
single player.
Petebot330 @ May 29th 2009 11:12AM
Sooner than I thought, but still so far away!
Also, fuck you videogame industry again for cramming everything into the last three months of the year.
cuteSAVAGE @ May 29th 2009 11:21AM
There's no pecking order this year either. It's all major studio, major talent, and a few original IPs from said major talent.
It was a lot easier to cull out a Bioware game in 07, now it's joined at the top by nearly every other release. So few easy write-offs this year, so few unproven properties... :(
cuteSAVAGE @ May 29th 2009 11:22AM
Meant as a reply to Petebot330.
wocyob @ May 29th 2009 11:25AM
really looking forward to this title.. even tho i dont know much about how the game play is
im just drawn to it for some reason
cant put my finger on it... thats the feeling i had before i saw this pretty trailer
cuteSAVAGE @ May 29th 2009 11:32AM
Is there any footage showing the interface of this game? All I can find are cinematics and HUD-stripped gameplay videos/screens.
cuteSAVAGE @ May 29th 2009 11:37AM
lol... nevermind.

Yes you can play in that view similar to Baldur's Gate but it can also be played more like KOTOR from over the shoulder, with the ability to set AI skills on your party peoples so you don't have to control them for the most part if you don't want to.
Vcize @ May 29th 2009 12:12PM
Once again...TOO MANY AWESOME GAMES
Nadril @ May 29th 2009 12:59PM
Oh man, day 1 purchase for me right here. I hope this is as good as the Baulders Gate series was.
Duke @ May 29th 2009 1:03PM
So, lets just imagine there was a time when guys like this walked around. How annoyed would they be to see all the men driving to work in their Prius' and then getting a Starbucks before they go shopping at the Gap.
Avatar (Steam: tmawds) @ May 29th 2009 5:02PM
Ok, you lost me, and that usually doesn't happen.
iamthestatic @ May 29th 2009 2:21PM
Is every trailer released for this game going to give me the same chills of delicious anticipation?
I think yes.
Avatar (Steam: tmawds) @ May 29th 2009 5:15PM
That trailer was delightful. No. No. It was brilliant. No, no, no, no. There is no word to describe its perfection, so I am forced to make one up. And I’m going to do so right now. Scrumptulescent.
Jay @ May 29th 2009 8:54PM
wow, the last thing I want to hear when playing a fantasy game is ANY type of rock music. I actually enjoy the music...power metal lyrics fit the setting, but i don't want to hear it in game at all. i want epic original scores! chances are i would have hated the Baldur's Gate series if i heard any marilyn manson so let's leave that out of the final product...please.
