Good news! GameTrailers just saved us a trip to LA by going ahead and having its own E3 tonight. Case in point: here's the
first footage of
DJ Hero, which reveals a much more ... seemingly strip-club-oriented game than we expected. Maybe it's just for the purposes of
this trailer, but is every DJ avatar going to be a scantily-clad woman (or
DJ Shadow)? Will go-go dancers figure significantly into the gameplay?
The trailer also features one of the game's vaunted
mashups, a pastiche of Gwen Stefani's "Hollaback Girl" with Rick James's "Give It to Me Baby." It's ... the
least annoying that "Hollaback Girl" has ever been, we'll say that much. The trailer is after the break.

What utter shit.
Insight is the mustard of your doom @ May 29th 2009 6:36AM
As much as I disagree with your views on turntablism
I agree one hundred thousand percent with this post
Fucking Gwen Stafani? Seriously? Man, I thought this game had terrible pop garbage BEFORE.
Scratch, it is.
Insight is the mustard of your doom @ May 29th 2009 6:36AM
*Stefani
My rage meter is rising
Flit @ May 29th 2009 7:38AM
I covered my ears, but then my eyes burned.
I covered my eyes, but then my ears burned.
I wonder how many "dancing girls in cages" will be lowered in this game, compared to the 4+ it happened in a guitar game. In a "hawt clubbin' scene" the sexploitation and product placement quota has to go up at least 4x, Amirite?
This trailer took every aspect of Guitar hero 3 that i hated and bundled it up into a big ball of gooey goo goo, and then sprinkled Stephani all over it, turning it into a deep fried ball of shite.
traceur_ryuk_shinigami @ May 29th 2009 11:49AM
As much as I hate the song, it was a good mix. And from what I hear (in the gameinformer issue) it has Electronic, house (which is most likely daft punk), hip hop, rap, and tons more.
gamepete64 @ May 29th 2009 1:35AM
I want to see real gameplay footage.
Averna @ May 29th 2009 4:55AM
Yeah... what the hell did I just see?
I kept waiting for the 'highway' to showup somewhere.
Terry @ May 29th 2009 1:36AM
I love both of those songs. I was actually impressed by watching this on GTTV tonight. If the remixes are that good on all songs, I will probably buy this. BTW, I in no way want to be a DJ, but I do love good music.
whymog @ May 29th 2009 1:57AM
Yeah, it actually sounds like a pretty interesting mix.
I hope the game's half as fun as Beatmania IIDX, because I'd love a good DJ game with some Western music.
S. Tiger @ May 29th 2009 8:33AM
whymog, beatmania IIDX 13 had a remix of Toxic by Brittany Spears I believe. But I highly doubt you'll see a lot of "good" western music in DJ Hero.
Troy Powers (PSN: TroyPowers) @ May 29th 2009 8:56AM
Agreed. I was 100% against this game, but that was a damned good blend. I don't even like Holla Back Girl (actually, I kinda hate it), but blended with Give It To Me...that's good shit. Eagerly anticipating an actual gameplay trailer...and hating myself for it. :)
GameDeveloper @ May 29th 2009 1:42AM
I was thinking about buying this game, but now that I know it features Gwen Stefani, I'm going to avoid it like the plague. I would rather take a drill to my brain than listen to Hollaback Girl... Actually, I'm not sure I can tell the difference between a drill to the head and that terrible song.
Matt @ May 29th 2009 5:51AM
People voted your comment down?
There honestly can't be THAT many people in the world who like Gwen Stefani's derivative, shallow, mindless, plastic music.
Troy Powers (PSN: TroyPowers) @ May 29th 2009 9:00AM
"I was considering buying this game, but now that I know that there is ONE SONG on it that I don't like...out of 80 something songs, I hate it!"
Okay.
MrRoboto1990 @ May 29th 2009 1:42AM
Worst. Trailer. Ever.
Gun Barrier @ May 29th 2009 1:43AM
I wish they could have shown some gameplay. I can't imagine how it would be like.
Echlin91 @ May 29th 2009 2:21AM
Same here. The trailer was a headache of fail.
Wince @ May 29th 2009 1:50AM
Having watched this trailer, I feel I now know less about the game.
RiccochetJ @ May 29th 2009 2:02AM
You too? Thank god I'm not the only one. All I gathered is that there will be hot pants in the game.
Anthology @ May 29th 2009 2:12AM
And the hotpants were all I needed to see to know I wanted it.
Traceur_ryuk_shinigami @ May 29th 2009 2:13AM
If you guys want to know about it, check out gameinformers latest issue. All the info you need.
ddub @ May 29th 2009 1:43PM
this is not hip-hop. this is not even simulating djing. Crash and Burn.
emirabal @ May 29th 2009 2:29AM
Trailer was worthless as far as gameplay, yes we know, but the mixing was effing awesome, and would make for great party music.
Now how the heck do you play it.
ZephyrWolf31 @ May 29th 2009 2:35AM
Wait a sec... so DJ Hero isn't just a joke? O.o
kjm24 @ May 29th 2009 8:08AM
oh no, it's a joke, but they're actually making it.
QAguy @ May 29th 2009 11:35AM
People said that about Guitar Hero when they first saw it...get over yourself. Just because you don't like the music doesn't mean others don't. In fact Hip-Hop, Pop, and dance music are the most popular music genres in the world...so if you don't like any music that uses a turntable then why are you posting here?
Geeez people LOVE to piss on other peoples parties.
With that said, I'm on the fence about the game....I agree the mixes sound great, just have to see if its gonna be FUN to play...Hopefully I can play it @ E3.
Sift @ May 29th 2009 1:39PM
QA, are you THAT retarded? Like seriously?!
Not to really start anything but reread his post, and then feel bad about yourself. He never said music games are trash or anything, you're just making shit up. Yes when I heard DJ hero myself I thought it was a joke because it was such a stupid idea. This trailer just proves that point.
Deck @ May 29th 2009 2:38AM
That....was....horrid!
trancehapps @ May 29th 2009 2:45AM
i hope that tiesto, paul van dyk, armin van buuren, infected mushroom and guys like that appear in the game, I REALLY HOPE IT cause i love electronic music and i consider myself a pseudo DJ haha
Alex @ May 29th 2009 3:35AM
If it has some electronica music such as a certain Aphex Twin, I may look into it.
Slick @ May 29th 2009 2:42AM
Using a Beastie Boys song would be a much, much better trailer song.
]:
I'll be getting this anyway.
Matt @ May 29th 2009 2:49AM
A DJ game + Gwen Stefani = the apex of knobgobblery.
Azbulldog @ May 29th 2009 3:07AM
I already read about some of this game in a Gameinformer magazine with screenshots of the note highway and more. It looks quite complicated to play.
Azbulldog @ May 29th 2009 3:12AM
Mm, there's a few screenshots here:

Gheb @ May 29th 2009 3:10AM
I wonder what kind of stripclubs YOU guys frequent if this is your idea of 'Strip-club-oriented'. Seriously.
why not the LS2LS7? @ May 29th 2009 3:32AM
Activision is doing their best to kill the music-game genre. Such whores.
EMaster @ May 29th 2009 3:51AM
I think i know now how the ppl felt that ACTUALLY played REAL instruments when rockband/guitar her became huge. Guys.. ACTUALY DJing is a lot easier now. For 200 bucks you can get yourself a USB mixer with software from Behringer and you can DJ for real. The damn software EVEN beatmatches the songs FOR YOU. Spend the extra hundred bucks and get yourself the real shit seriously. FYI DJ'ing is a lot easier than playing an instrument... Trying to learn how to play Bass now.
@trancehapps You can go to beatport, DL ur songs legit and buy a Behringer 3000 USB mixer with Traktor DJ for $200USD and mix ur tunes and record your sets you can listen to and have some pride in knowing you made that. Most DJs these days don't even use vinyls anymore unless they are talking time coded vinyls like serato scratch n stuff.
Jess Q. @ May 29th 2009 4:39AM
But I don't want to be a *real* DJ. I would suck at it. Seriously.
Baz151 @ May 29th 2009 5:27AM
I was thinking about getting into DJing and all that but I have absolutely no idea where to start or how, although what you stated seems to be a pretty reasonable suggestion. I'd love to do it all and with the use of a computer would be even better, still not sure as of where to start though.
I guess after this game comes out everyone will want to be a DJ. Just like everyone started playing guitar after Guitar Hero. *sigh*
S. Tiger @ May 29th 2009 8:34AM
Baz, we call those people "posers" 'round here.
I thought about learning to DJ, too, but I don't know where to start either...probably with something Korg made...
Trippy Haps @ May 29th 2009 10:33AM
@S. Tiger
I may be taking your comment out of context, so correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like you're suggesting people who develop an interest in playing an actual instrument after enjoying a game like Guitar Hero/DJ Hero are 'posers'?
Quite the opposite, I think it's bad ass. Sure, there will be a vast number of untalented ((literally not blessed with musical prowless, not " 0mgz u SUX! " )) musicians turned out, but even they deserve to try if they want to.
My idea of a poser: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7o5T_HsCZEQ ((Family Guy))
Afrocass @ May 29th 2009 4:31AM
who the fuck cares!? thats just the shit they show in the background while the actual game is being played! we want actual gameplay footage!!!
Jess Q. @ May 29th 2009 4:41AM
Looking at the screenshots someone linked, I'm curious about gameplay now. It looks vaguely like Frequency/Amplitude (with so few buttons) - a very good thing.
It looks more complicated than Frequency and Amplitude, but... more similar to it than the other music games have become.
EMaster @ May 29th 2009 4:59AM
Jess, with today's technology the computer practically DJs for you. It beat matches the song for you and the only thing u have to do is simply know the song well ie when the song has an opening or "bridge" that you can mix the other song into etc. DUDE we even have software now that will tell you WHAT KEY the song is in if you want to mix in key of the song ie if the song is in F# (sharp) or C(b) flat. Any moron can DJ these days trust me.
Dv8thwonder @ May 29th 2009 5:34AM
E3 is bananas, B-A-N-A-N-A-S, E3 bananas!!
stargateheaven @ May 29th 2009 8:08AM
DJing gwen stefani? no.... just. no.
Danny @ May 29th 2009 7:57AM
I just want to make everyone aware that Scratch: The ulimate DJ is not only a cheap name for a game but it is also the Rock Revolution of DJ games. Few will buy it. And honostly did anyone see the peripheral? At least this one looks like it was built to last.
brazil trance @ May 29th 2009 8:30AM

must buy now
hip hop sucks
S. Tiger @ May 29th 2009 8:37AM
I didn't see the video and I'm disgusted... 8[
I wonder what Beatnation Records' take is on this...
Crayfish @ May 29th 2009 8:45AM
It appears as though their animators still can't make a character move as though they're not strung up on fucking puppeteering wire. I can't say that for a 100 percent just form the trailer, but at the very least, nothing in it convinced me that wouldn't be as clunky as GHWT.
