According to a
USA Today article, Activision has turned to Jay-Z and Eminem to provide some added value to a special edition release of
DJ Hero. In addition to the game, the bundle reportedly includes greatest-hits CDs from both rappers, possibly with new tracks; an "advanced version of the controller;" a DJ stand and a metal traveling case. The two musicians will serve as "consultants" to Activision, and will, of course, contribute tracks to the game.
Another collaborator, DJ Shadow, put four screenshots of
DJ Hero up on his
website that
finally show some gameplay. It appears to be very similar to
Guitar Hero, except sometimes the note line moves a bit, which we believe indicates switching tracks on the crossfader.

This is awesome. Ever since Guitar Hero / Rock Band i've been waiting for a hip-hop spin-off! Can't wait to play this game!

stargateheaven @ May 29th 2009 9:45AM
I was excited for this game, after playing beatmania (awesome game).
after seeing the trailer posted earlier.. wow, if the music is all gwen stefani it's a no BUY.
Richard @ May 29th 2009 10:34AM
Obviously based on the tracklist that's been released so far it is NOT all Gwen Stefani... so....
stargateheaven @ May 29th 2009 11:09AM
OKOK, maybe i rushed in a bit by saying that. But the trailer gives off complete FAIL to me. I guess I think more dance music when i think of DJing.
Dude @ May 29th 2009 9:44AM
Sounds cool, i hope the mashups arent ridiculous though.
james @ May 29th 2009 9:49AM
the scratch mechanic in this looks pretty interesting
(or whatever the lateral blue/green lines are)

the game itself is awesome, but seriously, who's the idiot that came up with the idea of having the buttons on the record? that defeats the purpose...
Snake Robot Podium @ May 29th 2009 10:04AM
Jay-Z? This almost makes me wish Harmonix didn't lock up the Beatles. Almost.
BxGT @ May 29th 2009 10:05AM
I thought they would go for the small fry like kanye west but eminem and jay z, consider me interested.
Troy Powers (PSN: TroyPowers) @ May 29th 2009 10:14AM
Damn you, Activision! I was totally leaning toward Scratch, but after the Rick James blend in the trailer, and now this...
Still sucks that the buttons are ON the turntable. WTF?!!?
baby sea tuna @ May 29th 2009 10:17AM
I'll admit, the more I hear about this game, the cooler it sounds. Unfortunately, no more peripherals means I won't be picking it up.
Also, where's Q-Bert, Kid Koala, and Amon Tobin?
brampf @ May 29th 2009 10:24AM
Not sure about them, but DJ Z-Trip confirmed that he is going to be in it.
Nap @ May 29th 2009 10:22AM
Greatest to ever do it. More good music please
SecretAgentHam @ May 29th 2009 10:48AM
jay z being my favorite rapper and eminem being my 3rd, i am now highly interested in this game. if it retails at a reasonable price, count me in.
iMeh @ May 29th 2009 10:54AM
WTF?! I need more Electronica in my DJing. I'll wait for the complete list and hopefully DLC for the Wii.
Phillip @ May 29th 2009 10:58AM
What about Wayne????
superaktieboy @ May 29th 2009 12:59PM
Wayne sux!! he needs to stop using autotune (he seriously overuses it)!! same with Kanye! Jay-z's next album will NOT have ANY track with autotune :) and Relapse is awesome!!
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ May 29th 2009 11:03AM
Nah I'll wait for DJ Band with Gangstalicious.

dark_inchworm (on Steam!) dark inchworm (on XBL!) @ May 29th 2009 11:50AM
I think both rappers are HIGHLY overrated...
...but chances are you'll still catch me buying the special edition, 'cause I'm a sucker for that sort of thing.
343 Guilty Fart @ May 29th 2009 1:09PM
I agree. I mean, Eminem, really? He's still making jokes about current celebrities that will sound completely dated and irrelevant in 5-10 years (Kim Kardash- who?). At least DJ Shadow is on this thing.
Daven @ May 29th 2009 12:17PM
i dont like rock and that stuff so i didnt like guitar hero but i liked the concept
i was waiting for a rap and hip-hop spinoff for a long time.
Hope they got lil wayne
chaos123x @ May 29th 2009 12:07PM
Do either of these rappers even use real DJ's? (turntableist).
I thought they just used music mixed on a computer with like Pro-tools.
Give me real DJ's not rappers.
Cut Chemist
Mix Master Mike
DJ Qbert
UNKLE
Invisble Scratch pickles.
superaktieboy @ May 29th 2009 1:01PM
dude you do know that rap songs need to be DJed as well? lol.. eminem's new songs are all DJed by The Alchemist, and his old songs were by erm.. DJ Green Lantern! both awesome DJ's!
furious @ May 29th 2009 12:11PM
not eminem. worst rapper ever. sounds like a donkey.
PARANOID365 @ May 30th 2009 3:58AM
You need to be kicked in the fucking face by a donkey !!
ddub @ May 29th 2009 1:43PM
These guys aren't even DJs. Fricken Eminem? Sorry this game makes no sense.
PARANOID365 @ May 30th 2009 4:02AM
^^
Stupid much ??
Beau @ May 29th 2009 3:00PM
holy crap! how do you work this thing...
wats up with the twist with the lines? well not really twists but wow!
kshisedo @ May 29th 2009 3:26PM
Hey Chaos123- I read somewhere Shadow and Z-trip are in the game. Now that's cool.
I also read AM's in the game and that's not cool.
Buttons on DJ Hero controller I'm not sure of. But Scratch controller with buttons to the side? WTF?
Luke @ May 29th 2009 4:15PM
I'm excited...check out the latest IGN preview with gameplay videos...yes, the buttons are on the record, but it still spins. You're gonna have your hand on the record anyway; it makes more sense than having them off to the side.

wud_e @ May 29th 2009 4:55PM
Eminem and Jay-Z? WOW! They really couldn't get DJ's? Why these 2 rappers? Marketing easily. That sucks man.
wud_e @ May 29th 2009 4:59PM
Nice! LOL!
S. Tiger @ May 29th 2009 5:36PM
Disgusting...
bug @ May 29th 2009 11:22PM
Wow, that really makes me NOT WANT this game.
DJ Shadow used to be good, but now he's involved with stuff like this? Blehh.
Just as a small aside, Green Lantern jumped ship to real hip hop artist Immortal Technique. People should support him, not Interscope's tank-topped puppet.
