what's it like? I was tempted to get it but I'm worried about the controls. Are the controls good?

They are the best I've seen yet. You can also customize them to your liking. ID did a great job on this port. Doom will be even better next month.

The controls are great. It took me a few minutes to get the hang of it, but after you do, it works fantastic. I would pick it up, it's on sale for $1.99 right now. Good times

What! Wolfenstein is awesome! It's no Call of Duty 4, but it's still a lot of fun, even considering it's age.

I'm not dissing the game by any means. It's just that, well, it's 2009. And 2009 needs to start acting like it's the 21st century.

it's not like it was released to retail for $60. it's in arcade/psn.

your "sarcasm" comment dissed the game completely. if you didn't mean to, you should've kept the comment to yourself.

Some games should just not be re-released, this is one of them. Yes, I loved it when it came out. But this simply isn't remotely enjoyable anymore. Sometimes the nostalgia bit works, other times it utterly fails. This, I feel, is one of those times.

It's the kind of thing that you play for 5 minutes thinking "Oh Wolfenstein, I loved that game!". Then you get bored quickly and wished you hadn't spent 5 bucks on it and go back to playing CoD/Haloz. Don't let nostalgia fool you!

That should have read "why *isn't* this for PSP as well. Seems like a no brainer to make it portable and it's not like the lack of a 2nd analog nub would be crippling in this case.

Actually I think you need a brain....Doom has been on xbox live for quite sometime now bub...

To all others, Wolf3d should be no more then the current price of Doom on xbl, seeming how that even included co-op play, which I'm assuming this doesn't.

Unless they include spear of destiny.

Actually, some of YOU need brains. Don't assume he has to have a 360.

PS Store doesn't have Doom. Yet. And I agree, Wolfenstein 3D sounds like a must-buy, but Doom would be even better.

I wonder what the people who were involved in the design of this gaming hardware generation think when they come across all this 8-bit luv.

@evan

It is a game with 8-bit colored sprites and 8-bit music. Pixel art is cool but what does it have to do with Wolfenstein 3d?

Evan is right... That's not 8-bit in the least.

8-bit sprites (as far as Nintendo goes) only had three colours to them, excluding black and white. Looking at just about any sprite in that picture shows that the sprites have many more than three (plus two) colours.

Why do so many people hate this game because it's "old". I agree that just because a game is old doesn't make it good but where is the flaw in this game? It's a straight forward FPS with good level layout, plenty of hidden goodies, and a simple yet effective fighting system. It was good way back when and it's good now. I respect peoples opinions but it irritates me when older games are compared with newer games. It's like comparing apples to oranges.

Did you notice that no one was comparing it to current gen FPS games? It's just a boring game now. I'd have as good a time playing minesweeper.

If it's $5 (400 MS points), I'll purchase it. I love Wolfenstein 3D and to have it on my 360 is worth $5... but if they bump that price up to the $10 mark, I will not purchase it. I understand that Microsoft and id need to make a bit of money, but the extra $5 would be just greedy; they can make enough profit on a game that probably had a very short development cycle to get on the 360 at a $5 price point.

I am excited at the bonus connectivity with the new Wolfenstein title coming out. Here's hoping a couple of the achievements unlock some cool retro gamerpics or maybe a premium theme that "looks" like Wolfenstein, in all it's pixalated glory!

When was the last time you rolled a hoop with a stick, Derek? It was a fun game back then, but it's not fun now?...

We've had advancements in the fields of hoops and sticks, and the field of video games as well.
Old things just don't appeal to us anymore, because they're not as stimulating.

When was the last time you shot an orange ball into a rimmed hoop?

When was the last time you swung a wooden stick at a small ball?

Some games have been almost identical for 50-100 years, yet they're still enjoyed around the world.

BTW, Wolfenstein has a pace that's much faster than modern FPS games BECAUSE the engine is simpler and the focus is on action rather than exploration. This game can still be enjoyed today.

Going by that logic, yyr, even basketball and baseball have evolved too. They're not exactly the same incarnations that they were at inception. They're close, but dissimilar enough that it bears mention.
Just like Wolfenstein is dissimilar enough from Resistance and Halo, that it bears mention.

Things evolve, the old, and bad die off on the side of the road, while the young, and good continue to carry on. (By the way, I don't mean to say that Wolfenstein is old and bad, it's just old... an example of a bad shooter that's young would be the new Terminator game.)

As much as I love this game and prefer it to Doom... can't they just let abandonware be abandonware? Trying to charge money for it now is kind of milking it. If I were you, I'd head over to your favorite abandonware place and run this in DOSbox on PC, the way it was meant to be played anyway - if you want the nostalgia. I do wish sometimes that more developers would just go all the way and release their 10+ year old titles as freeware. iD are certainly doing the right thing by open sourcing older engines, but still trying to make money out of such an old game now seems a tad greedy. It's had its run.
