They should FIRE whoever designed that monstrosity. Why didn't they put dual analogs? They could have even made like a touch pad type of thing...+ that nub is in the MOST awkward position ever. Hopefully sony has time to make some tweaks....if they actually listen to their fanbase...

It's. The same. Console.

Dual analogues would mean games that are incompatible with older PSPs. I don't get why this is so hard to understand.

Dual analogs would not make games incompatible as long as devs dont assign stuff to the dpad. But damn, sony really screwed up on the hardware. At least there will be some good games.

No I understand...dam.

What I meant was they should have just made a new system already, it's due time for one, backwards compat with psp games and new dual analog supporting games, either way the analog is in a terrible position but they'll probably change it.

Hell, one analog is fine. As long as it's on the RIGHT side. Analog would be OK for movement, as long as it's an 8-direction pad.

How the heck would dual analogs make games incompatible? There would still be a d-pad and left analog stick to use on those games, they would simply ignore the right stick and function exactly the same as before.

Really, doing any kind of redesign to this thing and not adding a second analog stick is entirely pointless.

Sony's gone off the freakin reservation. You'd think they would have learned by now to add 2 sticks, not make the one they had worse. Good job screwin up the one thing you make that I might actually play. Needless to say, I've been waiting for 2 sticks so I could could get one. I guess the adventures of Big Boss will have to wait.

I kinda liked, just look at the press release photos:

http://www.eurogamer.net/gallery.php?article_id=587698#anchor

The only bummer for me, it is the lack of UMD, since I live in Mexico, it is not going to be easy to download games from the PSN Store.

The Playstation originally didn't have analogue sticks, releasing the dual shock didn't instantly make everything incompatable. They could have easily done the same here.

you thought the analog nub was bad before they managed to make it much worse.

placement means that you have to reach your thumb over for awkward hands. but whats worse is that its in the path of the d-pad. during frantic playing the joint on your thumb will probably press upon the d-pad which could lead to unwanted results in-game.

"Dual analogues would mean games that are incompatible with older PSPs."

So? This thing should have been introduced as middleware between PSP and PSP2. And the incompatibility is the same as all the DSiware games that are incompatible with older models of the DS, and all the Gameboy Color games that were incompatible with the Gameboy, etc.

And, since this thing has no UMD drive, isn't it incompatible with EVERY SINGLE OLD PSP GAME outside of the ones they introduce to the service?

I agree with ice~. This should have been a new system. The only way I'd give this a shot is if it launched at $99 and had something that couldn't already be done on the current PSP.

It looks nice closed, but open it's just this double-breasted monstrosity that doesn't look slick or attractive at all.

Also, that hi-res scan looks like that's a microphone next to the d-pad, not a joystick. Or a speaker? Why would they need one that big though?

It's still hideous.

If this were put up with the fake render, everyone would have thought the fake render was the official one.

In the end though, it just matters how it feels in my hand so I'll reserve buying judgment until I can figure that out.

These sort of blockbuster hits in addition to others like Tekken 6 and Soul Calibur 4 for the PSP should have been announced a long time ago.
This year looks to be a big one for the PSP and its owners.

I'll take ugly and comfortable over cute and difficult to use - which I've always found the original PSP to be. At least within reason, if it looks like a Zune...that's gone a little too far. But anyways, I'm more concerned to see how well the new control position works than how it looks. Besides, it may very well not even be the final version. Remember the prototype DS?

D-Pad looks nice and big. Unlike the DSi which I have a hard time using because my thumb is way to big. But overall I was hoping for sexy but I guess cute-ish sells more.

Yeaaaaah. I have a sneaking suspicion that the odds of that teaser being for a PSP release have become A LOT more likely.

Bleh. I hope not. Otherwise, Sony kinda blew its load with this Qore thing. Maybe E3 brings things we don't even suspect?

Eh..

I highly, highly doubt it'll be a MGS4: Director's Cut, considering the cyber ninja is NOT Raiden. The Cyber Ninja is either Sunny, for MGS5, or Grey Fox, for Portable Ops 2. Not saying there won't be a Director's Cut, but that's probably not what the countdown is for.

nope, both of your potential cyborg ninjas are wrong. gray fox lost his right eye, not his left, so there goes that theory. and the muscles around the neck and shoulders are much too big unless they put sweet little sunny on sweet little steroids.

Won't having two handheld entries into the PSP brand kind of confuse the market? There's really no marked improvements as far as I'm aware. Yes, larger internal flash harddrive, but they eliminate the UMD. This could backfire on Sony big time... I adopted the PSP on launch day and eventually bought a 2000 because of faster load times and louder speakers. But after I heard about the 3000, I thought it was enough until the true next generation came about. This still seems like a stepping stone.
